  • @musashidtr yes and he's a founder of Video Games Live , a little time earlier i searched him on wikipedie, didnt knew hes a legend o_O

  • Best game ever...period...

  • Everything on that game was fucking awesome! Missing my SNES emulator now...

  • sorry but they skipped a great song in chrono trigger, the actual chrono trigger theme. i did see video games live (in person) and they did great, it was just disappointing that they skipped that song. i need to see the play! orchestra and see if they are better...

  • Best 'Scars of Time' I've ever heard live. I think my life is complete.

  • the best game in the world

  • Does the cameraman have a boner for the guitarist? Show the other people... great job, performers

  • @gogators432

I do have a boner for the guitarrist, mind you. But yes, I agree, everyone did a marvellous job.

  • Goosebumps... just that.

  • I cry viewing this video

  • Didn't know Sting liked Chrono Trigger and Cross

  • hes real name is GLENN

  • This is so great, best music ever created

  • I love Wind Scene. Still my favorite video game song ever.

  • I have frogs theme as my ringtone

  • hmm they didnt include the actual MAIN THEME?!?!?!

  • This version of Frog's Theme sounds like a pirate song lol.

  • I recognized only the first three themes: Morning Sunlight, Wind Scene and Frog's Theme. Which are the other ones? Particularly, from 2:01 onwards is my favorite part.

  • @saiyajinwarrior 2:01 onwards is from the sequel, Chrono Cross.

The song is called Scars of Time

  • @Lee4753 Thanks for telling me, pal. Now I just don't know which version of this tune is best: this one or the original... xD

  • FROGZZZZZZZZZZZZZ THEMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • theyre coming to mexico city heck yeahh i have been waiting for this forever!!!!

  • @Rickenbuster Tambien estaras ahi eh amigo??? Creeme q yo tambien lo he estado esperando, sera algo epico...

  • You had to be there.

  • Wow, their guitarists really nailed it. They didn't try to go over the top, a failing in which many create in trying to play this kind of music. Using subtlety for the bigger parts and a softer lead for the quiet parts really made it.

  • It's okay, I think they focused too much on the guitars when all of the soul of this performance is actually in the Violins and the flute. Thats where all the emotion that makes this such a great piece is. So, they can play a mean tune that keeps the music going, but where is all the true feeling of this awesome piece at?

  • The show is still awesome today but its just not the same with out Jack Wall.

  • and why the fuck is he using an electric?'

    not an acoustic electric?

    gay

  • omg. the Chrno Cross theme <3 was beautiful

(or correct me if im wrong. The second half yes? It's the only one i've played, my sister played Chrno Trigger)

  • Tommy u r fuckin amazing!!

  • video game music are classics how do they do it?

  • JEEEEZZZZ!!! great!

  • @LordJeep

Aha! YES! Thank you! That's been nagging me for so long!

  • Whoever this guy is is a cunt. The orchestra is good, though.

  • What's with a half-assed electric guitar there for?

  • @botsky02

Light years measures distance, not time dumbass.

(That line sounds vaguely reminds me of an anime or game?)

  • @HirolUnari Probably the Kessel Run in 15 Parsecs from Star Wars. Thing is, the Kessel Run goes by a black hole, and the closer you are to the black hole, the more speed you gain by sling-shotting around it, and a more direct path.

  • @HirolUnari lol a trainer says that to you after you beat him in Pokemon Blue/Red.

  • @ 2:50 that just made me angry. I mean I could stomach the guitar up till then, but all of a sudden we took a turn into salsa-ville? No way. Get that guy outta there.

  • Wow look at this tool play guitar

  • Minus the guitar, FTW!

  • Could be the camera, but that lead guitar has way too much high end. Treble out the roof! Such an odd sounding tone to use.

  • wow...way to massacre a masterpiece!! PLAY!'s Chronotrigger/Chronocross rendition is still light years better than this.

  • Is that Sting!????

  • why the fucking guitar??...focus on the orchestra

  • this is actually i think the best youtube video i have ever seen

  • this is sad, it dosent even say when they are coming to montreal on the site yet ):

  • FRRROOOOOGGGGSSSS THEME!!!!

  • Tommy? as in the dude who used to host Electric Playground? haha awesome, thought he looked familiar.

  • ewwww at 2:13 i get chills.

  • I hate tommy talarico with a passion, but I love this.

  • Is that Tommy Tallarico? Gawd, he was such a douchebag when he used to co-host Reviews on the Run.Music is good though. :)

  • This game has some of the best, most beautiful music of all time, and this fully demonstrates just how great it can be.

  • what I don't like is that most of them don't even know what is chrono trigger .... they are not fan ...

  • Get the guy with the guitarr off the stage!

  • wow i want to go to their concerts! where can i go to see this?

  • meu essa trilha esse jogo são fora do sério muito bons!!!!

  • I was there :D SUCH a fantastic show! I cannot wait until they come back this year :D

  • The songs in order are:

    Wind Theme

    Frog's Theme

    Scars of Time

  • @deth2munkies Of course, I have a problem with the fact that Scars of Time is in there, because this makes this Chrono Trigger AND CHRONO CROSS, not just Chrono Trigger. :P

  • FROGS THEME!!!! I i used to play that song before each mission when i was in iraq!!! great stuff

  • @dexterme Sir, that is bad ass. Props.

  • @dexterme I salute you Soldier :)

  • @Sushiman808 wow thanks,i wont even lie i imagined my M4 as the masamune at times.

  • @dexterme siiiiiick ! you must've felt pretty epic listening to the songs every time .. I would !

  • i felt epic... being a soldier for my countries people... if you can understand that.

  • @dexterme thats fucking hardcore.

  • @dexterme awesome man!

  • I WANT THAT GUITAR!

  • 2:00-4:11 was Chrono Cross, but it's still awesome music.

  • i guess this just prooves how much an orchestra needs a conductor. xP

  • Holy shit, this was in Kitchener? I wish I would have known! Most epic!

  • AMAZING!! 10 stars, P-e-r-f-e-c-t!

  • holy shit. tommy tallorico on drums. i remember seeing him on that g4 show Judgement Day a long time ago.

    Good times.

  • Chrono Trigger 4 life.

  • 4 life!!!

  • They're really enjoying playing that song.

  • yup! guess ill go play chrono trigger now

  • i was in the backup choir to this and we pretty much all broke down when they did this. it was amazing

  • Wow that flute entrance was gorgeous! Great guitar duet too!

  • It was really disappointing that they don't practice at all before the day of the performance. When I saw VGL 3 years ago it sounded like they were sight reading.

  • Well, it's hard for a company that tours all over the world to get into a city early enough to practice with the orchestra and choir; when we worked with them for a show in Augusta, GA, most of their team had just flown in from Tokyo day before the show.

In most cases the orchestra and choir get the music a only few weeks before the performance. It's generally enough time for a good musician to get everything together, but you can only do so much without the conductor there.

  • fucking BONER. ahem, i have a boner now

  • yea, seems like they were competing rather than playing together.. sounds rushed, yet very good

  • @yayaiceice

this is how all their performances are... It would be nice if they could take their time, but they tend to tie it all together.

  • Are they? I've seen videos on Youtube of Time's Scar and other songs that are flawlessly transitioned into, and they don't appear to sound rushed at all. I'll have to find the video again (if it's still up) and show you the link.

  • I think when I responded to that I meant that the transitions aren't rushed, but I wish they would play more of the song before switching to another.

  • watch?v=NITRZK8z0ek <<-- is this the video you're talking about? :)

  • a la seche, c'est le chef d'orchestre. que vive a jamais la musique de jeu.

  • @nchq

i can´t understand french!! well, that doesn´t matter...

  • nice quality

  • Imo the segment of Trigger and Cross from PLAY! is better for these games, but its still good ;)

  • amazing.

  • is a mix of chrono trigger and cross -.- not just trigger, u should rename the vid :\ (love chrono cross opening song *-*)

  • True... (i love it too xD)

you should change the name D:

  • This saved the concert for me. The rest of it was hit or miss, and the Halo part was really annoying, but this was easily the best part.

  • the true value of VGL cannot really be experienced unless you're there, live

  • Especially the intro deserves to be in the concert.

  • VGL is coming to lisbon november 27 and i really hope that they play some Chrono OST... i love frog´s theme and the opening theme of the game is just magical... ^^

  • I think it's a hollow body...

  • Who Tommy Tallarico's? I'd have to agree.

  • Amazing , thanks for posting

  • Wonderful :)

  • kaeru's theme was imagined to use higher instruments than the ones they used, but I still think that the instruments they used for kaeru's theme were well-picked because they really sound medieval, and it just FITS.

Same with this Chrono Chross theme: they're not always using the instruments originally intended for the song, but they actually fit really well anyways.

  • that intro with the flute was too dope

  • Im adding VGL to my bucketlist.

    HAVE TO SEE THIS LIVE

  • Great music and great performance. But comments about the added electric guitar part being brilliant????? The electric guitar actually sucks big time, mainly because it's out of character with the music and destroys the flute melody. It's simply not necessary and adds nothing to the music but a distraction.

  • totally agree it was uncalled for

  • Agreed

  • There wasn't an electric guitar in this video...

  • Obviously you are kidding right? There is electric guitar all the way through. Starts at about :18. Check out what that guy is holding......looks like an electric guitar to me. :-)

  • Nope. It's an acoustic strat. Search google images "acoustic strat" should be the first picture on the page. He's playing the top black one

  • Oh, excuse me! Hahaha, I supposed it doesn't have a pickup right? Let me re-phrase: There is an electric "acoustic" guitar being played there. Sheeez!

  • I do have to agree with you somewhat because many of us grew up playing these games and are used to the music being one day.

Another way I look at the "additional guitar" piece to the music is supposed to be supplementary to the whole piece, though they could've toned it down so it didn't have to overpower the flute

  • @VladtheEmailer I agree, the guitar didn't need to be in there.

  • @VladtheEmailer his chords were off at the beginning too. He was a chord behind in the progression for a significant portion of the song...

  • @VladtheEmailer That argument is invalid. The electric guitar was played clean, so basically, It's just an acoustic with a very good pickup system. The actual body of the guitar doesn't really matter, the pedals you sue do, and he used none, making it as a normal acoustic.

  • @AldlarDurgil An electric guitar has a solid body, and sounds completely different from an acoustic guitar even with it's pickups turned on. I would prefer he play it unplugged. ;-)

  • @VladtheEmailer fuck those guitars

    no need for them

    unless they are harmony/classical guitars

  • @Utubesuxmycock I agree!! Sounds like crap! Completely out of touch with the music, doesn't fit.

  • aww booooo, first chair violin = too fast at 3:04 to 3:38 but went back in time when flute came in.

    But it's such a good song ^-^

  • Hello, I have a question here: the audio quality in this video is good. did you use digital recorder and sync the video with audio afterwards? or did you just record with your camera?

    thanks!

  • I recorded with my video camera. The camera I was using was a JVC Everio, they're a pretty new model. I was really pleased with the audio and video, especailly how when zoomed the camera had great clairity and detail.

  • @MeleeGurl I have same camera i must agree with you i record my friends concerts with it^^

BTW i envy You that You could participate in such an event o.o

  • Tommy's electric guitar addition to Scars of Time was absolutely fucking brilliant. It is so far the best version of that song I have heard yet. I wish i could say the same for the Chrono Trigger themes. I enjoyed them, but they lack the emotion that a well played Chono song can bring out of me. Scars of Time absolutely carries that emotion for the sake of representing the entire series in this one. VGL just needs time to perfect the craft here. I believe they will do better in the future.

  • isn't the intro of chrono cross?

  • nope, trigger.

  • nevermind

  • yo the one that says play chrono trigger an chrono cross is banging

  • This is one of the better Scars of Time arrangements I've heard, keeping the energetic, fast-paced guitar in the mix DEFINITELY makes it. Bongos could be louder (could be the recording's fault) and the background violins (not the ones playing the melody) are, IMHO, playing too way too high an octave, but I suppose that helps distinguish them from the guitars which are playing that lower octave.

  • I love how they made Frog's theme sound more like an Irish Jig

  • The synchronization could be much better... Else it's good :)

  • I loved this segment when I saw it. One of my favorites. Happy to have it online until it's released on CD.

  • cool, i get to see this.... in november lol.

  • i wish i knew :( i want to see this SO bad. yasunori mitsuda is above all my favorite ANYTHING when it comes to music, and this is so nearby to where i live too.

and to all the irrational comments about the performance over at OSV, i just have to say that i LOVED this performance BECAUSE of its flaws. it made it feel more live, which is amazing considering what songs we're talking about here. It looks like a real show and i would take that over any regular orchestra anyday :)

  • AWESOME.

  • I feel so terrible that I had to miss this, since it was in my hometown. And it's not like university is important anyway. So, damn.

  • Thanks; found this on OSV, and now it's on the Chrono Compendium frontpage.

  • Chrono trigger was such a good game...

  • oh i was hoping to hear Fanfare 1

  • omfg i didnt realize this was soo close to were i lived only like 2 hours away grr :(

  • tommy makes it look so easy , always stopping to scratch and stuff haha this is awsome

  • Great quality, this was one of my favourite pieces of the show (went to March 13th one).

  • I was there Yesterday! KALAMAZOO MICHIGAN!

    It was the second playing

  • Omg Chrono Trigger an Awesome song :D. Brings back memories lolz

  • Yes! Thank you! I absolutely loved this. I'm glad someone recorded and uploaded it. (:

  • You're very welcome! I am really happy that I was able to put it up on YouTube. The Chrono Trigger segment was really moving!

I've got the Kingdom Hearts segment up already and I'm going to be putting up One-Winged Angel tomorrow. There will be a few more surprises after that.

    Stay tuned! ^_^
