  • 1 PERSON IS A SISSY DRIVER!

  • Man I must be gettin old because I worked for at least four of those company's myself. Lol what a great old song.

  • Ol' Joe must have been a "casual".

  • Someone who knows anything about the KWs at 2:40, please tell me about them. Never seen them before, and dying to know more about them. They look like long-haul shunt tractors.

  • @lugger2010 Those are Kenworth CBE Cab Beside Engine models. Made in the late 1950's many of the freight companies used them WATSON BROS. MERCHANTS and YELLOW etc... Sleeper was located behind the engine compartment and the passenger seat was mounted behind the drivers seat.

  • Nice video. My Dad would be out on the road and I too remember watching The Johnny Cash Show and this song. Dad was an Owner Operator and pulled for several of the outfits Johnny sings about. One thing about this song.......I think if I was a Green Horn, I dont think I would be taking career advice from "Ol Joe". I think Joe was what they called a "Transient Driver". Here today, gone tomorrow!

  • I've read every post on this page, and what stands out for me was that nobody mentioned Johnny Cash. I remember seeing him do this on his television show and I went out the next day and bought the album. Johnny Cash was a once in a lifetime talent and he used it to sing about people and things that rarely got much credit. My dad was a trucker and I'm proud of him every time I play this song. Thanks for remembering Johnny.

  • 1st of all: WAY cool video!

My dad was a trucker between the 40s-70s and he recognized a lot of those trucks!

I'm actually looking for any International or Reo or GMC from 1953-1966 that has "Miss Doe" I-VII decaled on front hood. These were my dads trucks. Im searching for these to buy and give my dad as a gift.

Any word or pictures would be helpful-we live in the midwest.

    Thanks

    Once again, COOL video!

  • sounds like johhny cash?

  • It's still truckin' though. No matter what. It's all what you make of it. I have been at it for nearly 22 years, a ssecond generation driver. I look up to the old timers like my dad who started in 1949. I'll probably never be able to fill his shoes, but I'm tryin'. Nearly 3 million miles and no accidents!! By the grace of God it'll stay that way for another 22 years. Let's face it , the "Glory Days" are over for some of us, but for others, they're just beginning!

  • trucks just arent the same these days i liked the old trucks like kw w900a mack superliners peterbuilts freightliners but not volvo internation or the worst of all SCANIA

  • WOW! Only in America can you get away with this kind of shit if you were to do something like this across seas you will be decapittated.

  • Where did u find this song my father in law and I have looked all over for it if u could give me some info it would be great thanks

  • I was on truck with my dad last night and we were at the Iowa 80 truckstop and i seen a truck just like the one at 0:53 it even said CCC but it was an old International Emeryville cabover. :) i can't wait to go to the army and get my cdl. Im 15, so i have 3 years. Thanks for the song and great pics. God Bless

  • I"m not a driver myself, but my dad drove for Hemingway Transport, St. Johnsbury, Cooper Jarret, Carolina, Owens Illinois too name a few. They all went out one by one. A lot of fond memories.

  • in my 39th year ,somebody drop me off back in the 70s ok ?

  • keep it tween the ditches drivers!

  • Cr England wasn't any where in the song and the companies close to 90yrs old

  • I've droven for Zone 5,T.J.'s,JB Hunt,May Flower and many more

  • I remember as kids we would sit out by the roadside waiting for trucks to pass so we could hold our arm up like we was pulling the horn and they would always accommodate us by giving a couple nice blasts. We would argue which was better, conventionals or cabovers.

Johnny is right, the trucker has a great heritage in this country more than many truckers seem to give themselves credit for. I salute them.

  • I drove for 3.5 yr, and you can't judge drivers till you've done their job, It's ta tough life, and Thanks to all the drivers who do it for the rest of the rest of us

  • Thanks for a great song and equally great pictures.

  • I miss how it was when my pop drove. New truckers just are not truckers anymore. It seems the trucking family is gone. Thanks for this vid its great!

  • This is neat i have to save this. Thanks Johnny Cash 1968spawn

  • 0:43, old termoking sistem, load ice in bunker , and blow air to box-trailer

  • cool

  • my dad worked for most of those companies

  • Took me awhile to find this song! My husband works like a dog for Yellow Roadway Corp. He's worked for Wilson as well! I tell him if it weren't for truck drivers, none of us would have any "stuff!" Pretty much anything and everything comes by a truck at some point! I am so proud of his hard work and dedication to giving 120% on the job. I want to dedicate this old tune to all the hard working, overlooked, sometimes unappreciated, lifeblood of this country. We wouldn't make it without you!

  • pilot,transcon yellow,proctor,snuffy smith,carolina,north penn @ now roadway well Y.R.C.

  • Great song, great video. I'm 17 and cant wait to get my cdl's and drive.

  • Sailor on a concrete sea....I like the sound of that!! Being an old Mclean/Roadway/ Helms/Burns/ Branch/Yellow/Blue line and now an ABF driver.... I've been sailing for 33 years..when's this thing going to dock?

  • @Shield1751

You are kinda like "Ole Joe". Take Care out there.

  • @1968spawn

You too, brother....let's dock this sucker...and find some broads!!

  • Being from a trucking family and driving OTR for about 15 years myself we used to listen to this all the time. It's a great song but now that I'm older (and retired) it got me to thinking. The Foreman is real old so we'll say he's 70. He had to be at the job for a long time to be Foreman so he's been off the road at least 15 years. If he started truckin at 20 then he quit at 55, that's 35 years truckin. All the jobs listed were about 83, that means he held 2+ jobs a year. Man! He got fired alot.

  • @MrNormsHGW

That is very funny! Your are right and I've heard that before. Ole Joe was a good hand around a rig but was a well known job jumper! Can you imagine filling out all those applications.

  • @1968spawn I'll bet his DAC report weighed 40 pounds! LOL!

  • @MrNormsHGW Hi not allways so. I am from Europe, but I don´t think that thing´s run so different here. I am owner operator and run with about 20 different transportconpanies load´s. So own company, but load´s from many companies.

  • @MrNormsHGW Thats truckdrivin, my shortest job was one trip, my longest so far 6 years.

  • @MrNormsHGW I should mention, I've been at it for just shy of 20 years.

  • DONT FORGET DIRTY BOMAN

  • real companies

  • This is a FANTASTIC Video, and like ya said Johnny Cash tops it off, i to think i was born in the wrong era, I've been trucking for 23 years know and still looking for those old days that i grew up with, I've been around trucking my whole life, and it surely isnt the way it used to be. That's back when trucking was trucking, and the drivers took alot of pride in what they did, nowadays they're just in it for a paycheck and that's it.

  • @87kw TODAYS DRIVERS COULDNT DRIVE A STICK UP A PIGS ASS

  • days gone by, its a shame what happened to a once good industry

  • I'm so glad there's some classic yard dog trucks in this, can't forget them. I was born in the wrong era, even the trucks and trucking companies had their own individual character. And that's not including the character each driver brought along with them and on top of that, the character trucking as a whole brought out in everyone expose to it. Now it's all bland few big corporates verses even fewer little private companies. Am I the only one wanting to wake up from this nightmare we're living in?

  • @FireCrystalPhoenix No your not the only one. I'm waiting for a pinch myself.

  • Br Safe out there Drivers

  • absolutely one of the best trucking videos i've seen yet .thanks for posting this, and please keep them coming

  • What a great video. I retired in 1999 after 36 years on the road, the last 21 with Yellow. I drove through the good days and the bad. The bottom fell out for the OO in 1980. Remember? My prayers go out to all the truckers everywhere. Tc "The Big Wheel From Mobile"

  • Love the song and the classic trucks...

    Brings back so many memories!!

    Thanks

  • I have to admit that this is the "BEST" YouTube Video that I've seen in dedication of the GREAT long lost trucking companies of the past. Times has changed since then. I retired (due to medical reasons) from 30 safe cross country driving years in 1997.

Thank you for this great video.

BTW, Johnny Cash really topped it off.

  • Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed it.Times have changed you are right.

  • I started out with Sam Tanksley......

2 million miles later , I Plow snow on i_40 in New mexico..............aint no Drivers left !

    Just a bunch of Ditch Jockey's !

  • Sam Tanksley ( Shirley Temple trucks) they had a yard across from dirty Herbie's 76 truck stop in Council Bluffs IA. its now a Great Dane trailer spare lot. Thnaks for the comment have fun plowing for the I 40 good time gang!

  • Boy, I'll tell ya, 'Ol Sam Tanksley used to run some sharp, clean trucks! I remember the big "ST" they used to have on the lighted airfoil above the cab, you could see a Tanksley truck coming at you a mile off! Did you used to run out of that little terminal there in Moriarity, NM on I-40? I think they turned it into the Lisa Truck Stop at the end of town, but I could be wrong. Do you remember 'ol Woodys Truck Stop out on Route 66 at Edgewood going onto Tijeras canyon? That was a classic!

  • @TheEldoradoKid roadwayexpress hiway 66 moriarity n.m. time dc, tc trashcan (TRANSCON) blackies pub day gone by

  • finally found this song. What Cash album is this song on.If i would of stayed driving over the road,my resume would look like the song. Now i drive local, the money is nowhere as good, but at the end of the day i got a life. But i had some times on the road.Mostly driving the western United States.THANKS for posting this song

  • I don't think that this song was on an Album , but I remember it from the Johnny Cash Show . I remember as a child riding with him hauling loads of Thin Twins Potato Chips out of Evansville Indiana all over the midwest in the late 60's I listen to it and it reminds so much of my Father , God I miss him .

  • Man, thanks for the memories! I drove for several of these outfits as a trip lease owner operator back in the 70s & 80s. So much have vanished, as has a whole way of life. Large car pilots are almost gone now, like the dinosaurs we drove. Hooray for V-12s, 600 come-aparts & Big Cats~ what a way to travel!

  • Amen! Glad you enjoyed this.

  • Great video and excellent music clip,i must have watched this 50 times, excellent work, have a good one.

  • Brilliant film clip and music to match, must have watched this clip at least 50 times, great stuff, have a go.

  • Thanks, Lots has changed over the years.

  • I don't know what more surprising... the companies that are still around, or the ones that aren't.

  • Your so right. Many fallen flags.

  • I love it...I always enjoy driving by Roadway in PA and seeing their old vintage truck sitting on top of the hill! Nice job!
