Sad part is that the new internet protocol legislation about to drop in the USofA is gonna make providers like YouTube even more nitpicky about copyright. It'll give more credence to the VEVO crowd and the indy guys will suffer... They definitely need a mechanism of proof if they're gonna be so rigid...
You should not have to compromise how you lawfully present yourself or your product artistically just because the powers that be are incapable of addressing the inconsistencies and flaws in this environment.
I'm in the partner program, and making about the same amount of cash as you Darren. When I upload music I add copyright details, and I have never had a problem. But I don't use background music. All my music vids are performance pieces or video "art". I was set up as a musician's channel in 2006 and got on the front page of YouTube a couple of times. I'm guessing I might be on a "safe" list somewhere, but I really don't know. YouTube is a mystery wrapped up in a conundrum.
@periurban Yes, well I've had a performance video claimed falsely by YouTube's collection people this week and some of my review videos flagged as they have my own music as background today. I include the ISRC codes where I have them and plenty of links to my website, etc. But every so often I get a sodding email from them. I have three videos that I made specifically to accompany my music blocked by YT as I couldn't prove I owned them - despite making them and appearing in one of them...
@vrooomuk Man, it's just FUBAR! YouTube really have dropped the ball. It's almost as if they like all us little guys to bugger off and stop mucking up their plans.
I've been suspended 17 times for music copyright violations and yet I keep plugging away.
A video of people just talking with no music in the background is boring.
Take a look at my "Super Bowl Village" video, then imagine the last 5 minuites of it silent.
HUGE difference!
Thanks :)
