Its not really an anteater... it is Anubis keeper of the dead... mary the little girl got the name wrong and you just see Anubis in the form your mind can handle... marys can handle a giant ant eater... dont dwell on it too much lol

Its just a presence that is meant to be unnatural yet natural, benevolent . . .anubis . . . don't see him as a sign to be read, , maybe mr king wished to explore seeing death because in real life he too was knocked down by a car that nearly killed him.

Nothing in his writing and films is created without a significant purpose or effect

in mind and so I would tend to think that the 'Anteater' is Highly significant to the entire theme of his adaptation.

It may be that the anteater just looks like Anubus :protector of the dead (from the Egyptian Book of the Dead) We will see

idamb that last part of this clip pushed my suspicion pretty far of the edge. those games on the game show seem like they are hard core like a "Running Man" and yet thing s still seem like they are holding together by a thread like modern days; like time is of the essence and the characters do or they dont solve problenm that shit has left in their step.
