  • This may sound like a stupid question (no experience with sword & buckler and only a modicum of experience with longsword), but how easy/difficult would it be to adapt these techniques to a larger round shield that is strapped to the arm?

  • @ChishioAme

Not a stupid question at all. While the basic body mechanics and weapon use explained in detail on the DVD (available now!) is universal, sword & buckler and sword and round shield are fundamentally different, in as far as with the latter, the shield is the primary weapon (to open up lines for the sword). With sword & buckler, the sword is the main weapon.

There are a few overlaps, though, and a good buckler fighter will find using the Viking shield quite easy in comparison.

  • @warzechas Thanks for the info; I saw the DVD on Freelance Academy Press' website to see if I should order it as a way to supplement what little shield and sword techniques I've got (I've got some experience with the Okinawan Timbei Rochin, which is a shield and short spear/sword set) since there seems to be nothing available for sword and round shield. Hopefully, Agilitas' Ringen and Longsword Pt. 2 DVDs will be released in English in the near future.

  • @ChishioAme

The DVD covers a lot of fundamental concepts, paying particular attention to blade and shield mechanics in detail. I am quite confident that you will find some useful inspiration even if you focus on weapon sets other than sword & buckler.

    All the best,

    Roland

  • @warzechas Thanks a lot, Roland; it's been added to my list.

  • Is it possible for you to provide a direct link to the English edition? I'm looking at your webpage but I don't seem to be able to find this DvD in english? I've got to own this.. :D

  • @Enishna

What is your location? The English DVD is available at Freelance Academy Press via there webshop.

You can also try ordering from Agilitas or Amazon.de, however, use your browser to translate.

UK and Scandinavian supply is in the works. We will keep you posted!

  • I think you should stand a little lower, lest you get your leg cut. But this seems to show quite clearly the techniques. Which source is this from?

  • @DiabolusIgnis

Thanks for the tip. However, distance and forward lean are fine with the short type XIV swords.

The techniques are based on Lignitzer and I.33.

  • @warzechas Thank you.

  • is this out yet?

  • @MarkHolgate

Coming out this month (August 2011) in Germany,

English language version available in mid-September at the latest.

    For Europe order via Agilitas.TV

For America via Freelance Academy Press

Just a few weeks to go!

  • Great stuff - can't wait to get hold of a copy. You know...if you'd shield-knocked at 1.07 you'd have got him... ;-)

  • Yes, it will be released first in German, then also in English.

  • Will this DVD be released in the English language like the Messer and, Longsword

DVD's? I live in the US and, greatly enjoyed both DVD.s Well done!

  • Hi Roland - Any idea of a release date for this? All very exciting!

  • based on I:33?

  • @perdurabo1: This video is about basic techniques and tactics. I.33 is a sophisticated manual that provides a tactical approach to expert buckler fighting. Not a promising start for the modern practitioner. This DVD makes an effort to fill in the gap. We share biomechanical and tactical insights that we have gained over the years. To this end, the DVD also casts a light on other German buckler systems like the ones of Lignitzer and Paulus Kal. But we also outline I.33's tactical concept.

  • Thumbs down huh? I think someone is jealous...

    Great video guys!!

  • Yes....,great job Hammaborg...knowing that we, in Toulouse, will follow and study your every move....Antonius, Ost du Griffon Noir

  • Who is gave this a thumbs down is just wrong for doing so.

    Great job, guys!

  • awesome! These guys are probably the best when it comes to sword and Buckler material :)

  • Wunderbar!

  • Das Video ist Euch wirklich gelungen.

    Fechtergruß

    Heiko M.
