I too am completing the same read. Billy had three careers and gave us a reprise of the second upon his return to Australia in the 1990s and a glimpse of the 4th with Tangier before he was sadly taken. His third career was in the US. A legend in all respects. I was in Sydney around Australia Day 1974 and I heard the 2SM announcer state he was going to play Australia's national anthem. He played 'Be Boppa Lula' - precursor to this 1972 hit and what has become our sing-a- long anthem.
I have just finished reading the commemorative edition to Billy's books Sex and thugs and rock "n" roll and Most people I know (think that I'm crazy) and it was the best read that I have had in a long time RIP Billy sadly missed by millions of people
the amazing raw , honest , powerhouse talent that was the great Billy Thorpe shall seldom been seen in a persons lifetime, this guy was just so fucken great, such a sad loss to music and to the human race !!!!
no need to brag banduia! i hear your covers band, "up in arms" is in a state of hiatus because the front man is an egocentric showman who demands the spotlight? am i correct in saying this?
That was me man! Something I'll never forget.Billy has been a fan of mine all my life. There was another winner; the tall guy, suit and pony tail. See if you can spot him.
was there that night ....his voice......persona......energy ..one of the highlights of my life ..have seen/enjoyed him many times before
