I first heard this at Saint Lawrence University, Our school D.J Willy told me you have to listen to this! I loved it. This song was followed by Candy Flips strawberry Feilds and Wu Tang Clans protect your kneck. 93'. What a great time to be in college!!!
Man o man, thanks for posting this right heeerrrrrre. This is and was my shit, 93, o my Damn what a great year for hip hop, black culture, some good some bad....one, stay up ya'll...
I remember doing the vocals on this! Wow that was a long time ago what was I 21? Thanks for the compliments. Someone told me this was up here I couldnt believe it. Real Hip Hop is still alive. Wow
And yes from Milwaukee just like Speech from Arrested Development, there was Faluke Fulani, and Deanna Dawn (brought in later from ATL) and there was Geechi Gamba Im going to be nice spare his real name. Riverside University High School East Side Milwaukee baby! Again thanks for posting much much much memories
I really Dug this back then...and I still do now! Stellar vocals....especially by the female on the hook & nice unexpected punchline by the MC on the last bar!
I too have been lookin all over for this!!!! My brother had the LP, but lost it in another Dj's crate. I still have the 12inch single of A Free Soul, But i want the whole album again..I loved it!!!! When i talk about Gumbo, no one but my brother Knew what i was talkin about!! I couldn't find their music anywhere til now! : ) Love that Droppin Soulful H20!!! the beat is awesome... forward, and backwards!!!! Dj CAS. Lawrence, Kansas.
OMG...I've been looking for this FOREVER! I thought my brother and I were the only ppl who remembered Gumbo...this was my ISH!!! BIG thanks for the post!
I believe they were from Milwaukee, like Arrested Development. Milwaukee may have been the first to really come outta the Midwest, unless you consider Mc Breed from Ohio, who came out the same year as AD (1992)
I was the same way. I would ask my boys about this song and everyone looked at me like I was nuts. LOL. This track WAS Hip Hop at that time and it still is. Thank you for posting this!!!
i had this album back in high school.. i thought the beat was so hard...i think he came out the same year as the Boogiemonsters
