I'm aware of the voltage being a factor in generating x-rays. I assure you I felt perfectly fine afterwards and did review some of what I was doing with some of the "pros" I know. Even had a baby later (no sterilization - lol).

No harm done.

15,000 volts shouldn't produce too many Xrays from a CRT. They're BUILT to run at upwards of 25KV provided by the flyback transformer. Now if you were shocking it with 60KV+ it might be a different story.

Actually, I made that one. You need a Neon Transformer a series of MOT's, or a Pole Pig. Basically a fairly large transformer of some sort. The main necessities after that is high-voltage wire, and the experience to not get yourself killed trying to build/use it. The rest is window-dressing.

Since I don't know how old you are and what your expertise actually is, I'll have to leave it at that.

Here's why a Jacob's Ladder using only 10-15 thousand volts can arc 3 inches at the top...and why I had longer arcs in the parody above.

In Basic Terms: Ionized air conducts electricity better than not. The arc happens to ionize the air, so it can't START at 3 inches, if I start it smaller and pull outwards, it will go up to 2-3 inches due to the ionized air.

A definitive result is in fact possible, Jamie. Conduct the experiment again in a bomb calorimeter. Calculate the joules of energy produced, using the specific heat of water, delta T and mass of each computer. I think you'll find, as I did, that there is a statistically significant difference in incendiary power between the two. You can read more in my article published last month in Nature, Vol 65 #10

You have two fairly easy ways available: Wse a recorder tool (like Audacity), and set the input to "Wave Out Mix" or the equivalent. That allows you to record internal sounds without using a speaker/mike.

Optionally, you can open the video up in a video editor, and save/strip ONLY the audio. That works, too.
