  • Meccano is anti-Islamic.

  • saw 11

  • its asking for rape

  • now just find flux capacitor and you have time machine

  • They say that if you were to open up Dick Cheney's chest, where his heart would be, you'll find one of these...

  • Creeper spawner! *hits with sword*

  • Not that i wouldnt appreciate your effort, but... ya know there are a lot easier ways to produce sound.

  • noisy and useless.... i love it!

  • ....but does it blend?

  • It is powered by 20 mice running on a wheel.

Look up Hoarders Living With Rats and you'll know what I mean

  • Excellent! Though the materialists will be much more impressed that they discovered this marvellous device on YouTube, than the fact that someone spent so much intelligence making it work.

  • interesting, useless thing

  • which set you used to make that? is it multi 50 ?

  • I didn't use a set. A multi 50 wouldn't have enough gearing but should have decent proportion of the other parts.

  • @paulidale ok and if i want to do the same gearbox what i need to buy then?

  • There is no comprehensive parts list and never will be since this one has been dismantled. The description above includes a link to a web page that contains a basic write up of the model. A fuller write up appeared in Constructor Quarterly #65.

  • Its the future of electric cars

  • ha ha.. sexy..

  • what does it do?

  • Nothing

  • @paulidale The best kind of thing to do :p

  • Stick your finger in

  • A political machine. Moves a lot, is interesting, and does not do a damn thing.

  • 1000 years from now, a fisherman is going to pull this up from the ocean floor. It will sit in a museum for the next century before being scanned by advanced equipment and a team of scientists.

The scientists will declare that this was an astrological calendar. Conspiracy nuts will insist that aliens help in its construction.

  • Sadly, this model is gone and vanished. Reduced to its components.

Still, it is a nice idea...

  • @mspeir Exactly what i was thinking.

  • @mspeir

and it will be the new compass for the new mayan calender...

  • @Fieldsl3 lol

  • Do they still sell this? :(

  • Yes, all these parts are still available. Google for Meccano Dealer.

Failing that look for the ISM dealer's page.

  • @paulidale ha thanks!

  • what a racket that is

  • what does it do?!?!

  • whaat the fuck

  • Useless box is useless.

Or... Usefull if you need to get rid of a baby.

    I'm just saying.

  • You got a lot of time on your hands man.

  • this is very usefull... if like lisening to whitenoise...

  • its the heart of optimus prime hah

  • I am afraid of this machine, it will kill us all

  • who superfast clock

  • Where do you shop for parts?

  • Try googling for "meccano parts" or "meccano dealer".

The ISM web site also has a page of parts suppliers I believe.

  • @paulidale Thanks! I will check it out.

  • you are a pich

  • Q hermosa kakita...! Y el matillaso cuando viene..?

  • Keep the power on and see how long it takes for something to fail... better keep it lubed.

  • thats cool but wat does it do?

  • Very nice! :)

  • At 0:53 it looks like some weird robot is DJing and the "record" is one of the gears.

  • So what does it do ?

  • u made it literal

  • Oh man, what a terrible noise......

  • genius...

  • Very nice. Way to go!!

  • scusa...ma l'utilità??

  • schrotthaufen

  • fukin hell wouldnt b surprised if that monstrosity could port u through time lol

  • Is it possibles to travel through time with this device?

  • very ingenious I take my hat off to the person that made this, it is a remarkable feat in engineering

  • What a lovely sound it creates

  • whats that stuff called ? those blue pieces that the cube is made out of?

  • The blue pieces the cube is made of are Meccano Angle Girders and a few Perforated Strips.

  • @FACEwithaBUTT Actually, they are called erector sets, seriously, no joke

  • @Userwastaken lol

  • @FACEwithaBUTT I'm really not kidding...

  • well done, i grew up with mecano, shame the modern stuff is crap and letting kids be dumber and dumber

  • What's it do? LMAO

  • It does absolutely nothing.

Except for the amusement and fascination it causes.

  • Unlesss of course you reach in there, then it shreds your fingers!

  • It makes noise.

  • that looks frekin awesome. No doubt a lot of time and energy spent into making it

  • Didn't take all that long to make from memory. Not that I time these things. Quite a bit of rebuilding and adjusting.

  • looks like a overkill coffee maker..and whys the video so long? got the point after 15 seconds.

  • that thing is working soo hard :)

  • Yep! It's working to entertain us mwahahahaha! A most wonderful waste of electricity if I ever saw one!

  • This looks like the thing I desperately wanted to make when I was 7 but just couldn't quite work-out what should go where. Thanks for showing me how to do it . Perfect !

  • nice one

  • single motor?

  • Yes, it is all driven by a single small motor.

  • stick your finger in there

  • You first :)

  • dip it in motor oil... :P

  • i dare you to make it again

  • I double dare you to make it operate silently :o

  • protect the electical circuits and place it under water :p

  • To get silent operation, turn your volume down :-)

When originally built is was quite a bit quieter than shown in the video. A couple of trips on a plane in the baggage compartment put everything out of alignment enough to make it loud.

That said, the motor in the isn't the quietest so it has never been really silent.

  • "To get silent operation, turn your volume down :-)

    " LoL'd :P

Anyways, cool machine you got there. XD

  • SMOOTH!!!!

  • nice

  • might be a really strong motor for some machine if it was a big size :)

  • Does PinHead know about this?

  • try to put ur finger in it :)

  • it is fun to watch.

  • rubic shfit solved into first gear

  • lololol GEAR.. ..BOX!

    nice..

  • All that and you have to turn the table with your hand?

  • ok thats quite a gear BOX... but yeah what does it do?

  • judging by the needle on top...it speeds up time

  • it looks like an erecter set is it ?

  • Yes and no. Meccano owns the Erector name these days so when you buy an Erector set, you're really getting a Meccano one. Old Erector was originally a copy of Meccano and is different but not to the point of incompatibility.

  • haha cool

  • now where do i stick my finger first?

  • lol

  • wtf dose that thing do???

  • Absolutely nothing.

  • lool

  • it's mechanical art.

  • Supreme1Totally pointless machinery,excellent!!

  • Hair + that thing = PAIN

    But it looks cool

  • not that good

  • If you listen to the motor for a while, it's almost like it sounds like a flock of birds. like a rainforest or something. just concentrate. it's cool

  • It would be rather interesting to build one of these with the old meccano steam engines.

  • Have NASA been in touch? Seriously, If you can build this you could have brought Apollo 13 home!

    Tom

  • I want this set. wow. Can you please inform me where i can buy such kits? i just want 100,000 pieces at my disposal and just create my own mechanical marvels. Please get back to me =)

  • This wasn't built from a set.

However, if you want pieces, google for Meccano dealers.

  • It's a borg stop-watch. ;)

  • borg stop watch, that's hilarious

  • YOUNEED TO FIX THE FLUX COMPACITOR

  • What the hell is FLUX COMPACITOR??

But I think this thing is kind like ANOMALY PERFECTION..

  • flux capacitor is from a movie.. the device is used to travel in time. Have you seen back to the future?

  • Hahaha too much back to the future illegalprogram.

  • GREAT SCOTT!!!

  • why is everything so heavy, is there something wrong wrong with the earths gravitational pull?

  • this is linux. lol

  • you mean it works without crashing, falling over or catching a virus written by a four year old?

  • HAHA Yes!

  • I agree " downwidcrapmusic ".

  • hpw long did it take you to make it?

  • I don't know how much time I put into it. It was a few years ago now, but my best estimate is that it took less than a month to build and tune up. Of course, I was only working on it occasionally in the evenings.

  • Thats really amazing, I should try one of those :).

  • Read the "About This Video" comments I wrote to find the closest thing to instructions I'll be writing.

  • wow i seem to have stumbled upon aother subject matter to waste my entire life away on you tube with - lego and mechano models! at least this is related to my degree (mechanical engineering) as opposed to football etc. sweet invention id like to take up technic again some time i used to make some bad boy mechanisms as a kid :)

  • What kit or kits did you use to make it. I think its very cool. How big is it and how much power does it need to work.

    Thanks. Dave

  • I didn't use any kits, just lots of gears I've accumulated over the years. The holes are half inch (12.5mm) spacing, so overall it is just over 5.5 inches in each dimension.

As for power usage, it ticks over at about 1.5 volts and would have been running from circa 3 volts in the video. The motor I used was drawing a couple of hundred milliamps.

  • it looks like a clock... lol

  • If you'd read the description I posted, you'll see that is is meant to have its top resembling a clock face.

  • I agree, comparing this to Lego is like comparing a paper plane with a TamJet plane..

  • It's cool... and comparing it with Lego just doesn't make any sense... There's no comparison when it comes to making engineering projects. Lego is like paint by numbers--Meccano is a blank canvas

  • cool metaphore

  • lego is better but thats is cool (lego is so cool)

  • Very nice. Suggested improvement: have the box actually rotate itself back and forth like it was turned manually in this video.

  • good

  • Fantastic! I've just got back into Meccano. This is an inspiration. Thanks for sharing it with us. Simon

  • it would be really cool artwork if it wasn't so noisy

  • thats cool, i like the skillfull spinning method for the filming :P

  • you should build transmissions

  • Cool!
