I am so sad to hear of Billie Jo's passing she will be sadly missed, I first saw Billie in the 70's
at Southport Lancashire and think she is the best country singer of all time it is with pain in my heart that i say farewell to you my sweet and hope you are in a beautifull place and will never be forgoten RIP Miss Wonderfull
RIP Billie Jo, no one writes songs like this any more and certainly no one sings like this any more to evoke so many beautiful memories of my youth. you may be gone but with your voice you bring back so many thoughts of endless summers and of loved ones forever in my heart.
So sad to hear of Billy Jo's passing....Thank you Billy Jo for your music. I loved your music and seeing you on tv whenever you were on. Your music was true country and will miss you.....RIP beautiful lady!!
R.I.P Billy. Many thanks for the many hours of listening plesure your music gave me. Never got to meet you,But youll be missed here in South Africa. You are singing with GODS angels now...
Sad to hear she's passed on. She was a graet favourite of mine back in the 70's. Just bought a cd of her hits after getting back listening to her stunning voice on you tube..Fred McLarty
my mum loved billie jo spears, its been 7 years today since my mum died, just hearing this song bring back my childhood, I am now 33 and love billie jo spears songs. RIP mum thanks for everything
Thankyou Billie Jo for the music, and the memories, I'll never forget you..Rest in Peace sweet angel, and so many thanks for bringing back the summer of 1975 everytime I hear Blanket on the Ground..Happy days, sadly gone. x
she was so sweet i remember on sundays as a kid going and eatting lunch with her at her bbq place in port neaches. she would sing we would eat.... it was great. She autographed my coloring pages and my napkins all i have been able to keep up with over the years is a napkin. She will be so missed. George Jones said it so well in his song years ago.... Who's gonna fill their shoes.......
I'm going to miss you, Billie, as much as I miss Johnny Cash. Hope you're playing The Big House because I know Johnny is!!! Send him our love because we sure love you.
@sweetglory Compare this video with others culled from the 1975 record. Billie Jo is singing much more forcefully, as a singer is wont to do in a live situation. The track is pre-recorded but Billie Jo is singing live on TV.
I read once that the suicide rate is highest in country-music-listeners from all genres due to the high occurance of issues like divorce etc.. This is the best example. Nice sad song though :)
Yes she is shes 74 & still kicking! lives in her home state of Texas though! Had triple by-pass surgery a few years ago. Briliant voice & I'm named after her! what an honour!
i was there too. i only went to see Lena Martell coz shes been my favourite singer forever.
It was a good nights entertainment to see Lena sing One day at a time and Billie Jo sing Blanket on the ground all in one show, eventhough theyve lost the power in their voices i still enjoyed it.
ust saw her tonight on her 2011 Ladies of Country Tour in the UK, at Tunbridge Wells. Her voice is still huge but there's next to nothing left of the lady herself. She doesn't look too well I'd say, so get to see her while you can.
This song made me cry...even more poignant when sung by someone whose blanket days are long behind them...
Very special times. You could understand what they were saying and didn't have to be half dressed to get noticed. This woman was not pretending to be a country, she was country. Love it!

I had no clue who she was, then she came back from a tour in Germany and was talking about the clothes they wear and we just got to talking and I began to like her more and more. Shes awesome.
