  • First time I was introduced to multi-track recording on a keyboard. (It had 2 channels btw).

First time I could delete a wrong recorded note, (in a step recording mode)

First time I could replay the entire revised recording using the one and only "1 key play" feature.

Just wonder why this feature is no where to be found nowadays. Sigh

This was really a little wonder. I used to use a spoon and tap on a glass to sample the sound and play it back. All that in 1987!

  • ferris bueller's day off

  • wow today you never see synthesizers on tv anymore =(

  • Video says:

Sound track created with multi-track recording.

    That means:

You cannot do that all with just the keyboard

  • the commercial would be funnier if the dog would eat hes head off and after that gets in jail where he starts to play piano and becomes famous just like Mike Tyson and it turns out that the dog was Mike Tyson's cellmate and Tyson was inspired by the dog. so they did a band named "Tyson The Casio Dog". after which record label "Shady Records" signed them and day after the dog ate the whole Mike Tyson and the dog had to play alone after that. so he figured to shoot himself dead! and so he did!

  • rufus

  • That track later went on to be Woof Woof by Dan Deacon.

  • @Gmancrap

No, that would be the casio SK5 :)

  • I don't remember the piano sounding as real as that on mine. Also, I think it was only 4 key polyphonic. The bit depth of the dog sample sounded quite high too. Or maybe it really did sound that good on mine... No, I'm sure that was dubbed to get people to but it.

No sampler could beat it for fart sounds though.

  • fart fartfartfart fart fartfart fartfartfartfartfart far-fa-fa-fartfartfart; fart fart fart (FART) fart (FART) fart (FART) fartfartfart (FARTFART)

  • I Too Make Mine Garble Evil noises Late At Night,And It's Nifty Plastic Finish Wipes Off Well

  • lmao at the end slogan "Where miracles never cease!" yeah right!

  • I actually have 1 right next 2 me an original from the 80's got it from family

  • The Casio SK1 keyboard, the Technics SL-1200 turntable, and James Brown combined to give birth to hip hop.

  • What a load of RUBBISH!

  • I had one of these in the '80s. It broke, I threw it in the trash, wish I didn't now!

  • This is awesome!!! I want one.

  • sk1 sk5 forever

  • When I was 10 years old or so my friend down the street got one of these for Christmas. Our favorite thing to do with it was to make fart noises (or actually fart) into the sampling microphone and then play it back with the keys either really high pitched or really low pitched.

  • i have a stack of those. well.... "had "

ones bent and now i only have two "virgins" thanks for posting !

  • Casio SK1 the best keyboard ever.

But the piano here isn't the original.

    Ah Ah Ah.

  • i wanted one of these joints SOO bad when i was a kid.

  • i painted mine blue and purple with silver buttons. i circuit bent it too. sometimes at night when I'm lonely and bored I make it garble evil noises while i have sex with it.

  • awesome, ever think about pimpin' it out to others?

  • thought? i wrote the book sir.

  • LMFAOOOOOOOOOO

  • @shagnetics mmmmmm really ? i just bought mine today at a thrift store for 2 dollars ! you sound creative

  • @shagnetics best comment to anything about anything ever.

  • i bought one of these from a thrift store for 50 cents when i was younger and it worked wonderously up until a few months ago :( i found someone with the same problem but no solution. it powers up even with the switch set to off and no sound comes out. speaker is fine too. wish i knew the problem cause i love playing with it.

  • picked one of these up for 4 bucks some time ago..actually has decent instrument emulation for its age

  • My Dad bought one each for my sister and I back in the 80s. Talk about hours and hours and hours of fun!

Wonder where the keyboards are now?

  • ebay

  • That's exactly what i did, sampling the dog with the sk-1. Also playing a break on a tape or record real fast and sampling it!

  • anyone notice the SK-1 logo on the back of the keyboard thats not actually there on the real deal?

not to mention the fact that thats not even the actual piano sound you get from the thing

still, its a cute commercial for a keyboard i happen to love playing around with and having laying around :D

  • I still have mine, and it works perfectly to this day. Oh, the fun we used to have recording "Al Capone" into it and prank calling this one kid and scaring him with it! We were 13-14 years old at the time. Ah, miss those days LOL

  • Loved that sample feature! It was the best. Too bad, sold it in a garage sale loooong ago.

  • Man i rember those i used to love it.man i miss the 80's

  • I picked one up today on craigslist, 40 bux. Im gonna have alot of fun with it.

  • $40?!? i bought one brand new in the box never opened once for $15

  • this is fucking amazing.

  • I still have my Casio sk-1 from the 80's but it's missing a couple of the black keys.

  • excellent keyboard i got one and what a great laugh the sample button is the best

  • Lol I have it since 10 years and I love playing with ^^

  • I got my Sk-1 when I was 4 and the keyboard was 8 years old at that point. now it is at least 20 years old and showing no signs of slowing down I still play it to this day mostly for shits and giggles sometimes you stumble upon a cool beat or melody though and that is lots of fun.

  • i just got one and now im bending the hell out of it. im building a housing on it. if any one wants me to bend one for a let me know!

  • I just got this one at a rummage sale, it sounds great with the sampling function.

  • Just picked one up from the Goodwill store for $3.99

    It still works !!!

  • I got one of these a few days ago from a garage sale for 5 bucks... The lady sure didn't look happy :D I'm having tons of fun with it. Yay old electronics!

  • I bought mine c. 1988, a floor model... played it for years (as a companion to the Hammond M-102 Organ/Leslie 760 I still play). I was knocked out by its' having an on-board mike... 'TWAS the era of sampling, and all...

  • I still have mines. My daughter plays with it sometimes.

  • hehehe..cool to see--

i still use mine.its the only sampler who really sounds like an old record player!!!

  • haha how is that possible to play, the thing has only 5 polyphony

  • READ THE VID SUBTITLE! it says

"Sound track created with multi-track recording"

  • I was quoting the last sequence, the bit where he plays with two hands with the camera ontop of it. That has nothing to do with multi-track recording. Oh and it has only 4 polyphony even.

  • Actually Its 4 voices

  • I had one. I used the sampling feature like mad...looping it, reversing it, adding delay and echo...had a ball :)

  • I remember this commercial!

  • I got a mint one for 3 bucks a few months ago... its pretty good for 3 bucks. Sweet find! Sounds great for lo-fi electronica.

  • whered u get it?

  • I just got another one 2 days ago, for 10 bucks, also mint.... I got it by being in the right place at the right time... :)

  • i think im just gonna get one online, but then i have to spend like 30 with shipping, i dunno if thats really worth it though

  • Ok, i got mine at a thrift shop, and I was lucky because the 2 I have are mint, but depending on where you live you may not be able to find them, so the internet is the only option and you will probably end up paying alot for them...

  • ace!

  • I wish they still sold keyboards like that all mini and stuff.

  • i just got one a few days ago.

  • THANK YOU!! i've been looking for this commercial all over the internet and could never find anything.

  • I always saw this on the "Japanese Show" on weekend nights on WNJU-47 (now Telemundo). Can anyone find the Japanese cat food commercial that aired on it too?

  • I still have mine and it works. Great little keyboard for having fun.

  • Same here.

  • Oooh, I remember Rufus!
