@nomorefunds People need to stop grouping all "whites" together. Racism exists in all cultures. It is between "races" (which don't even exist mind you) and not exclusively "whites" being racist to other ethnicities. And not every flipping white person is racist! I’m white and I have encountered racism. So get off of your chauvinistic high-horse!
@itachiXsasukeXluvr She/He is talking about in America so calm down. He/She is grounding all whites together, but the majority of white people DO believe that racism doesn't exist in America anymore.
@nomorefunds - Racism exists, (though it is rapidly diminishing) because of ignorance and stupidity pure and simple. Whether it's now, 50 years ago, or 200 years ago, racism has always been the result of ignorance. When I come across a racist individual, I don't feel hatred or contempt, rather I feel sorry for them.
I have to order dishes I ate since childhood that existed for centuries with a really weird bubblegum name because some minority on the other end of the world feels offended in some way.
I am not allowed to say asylumseeker(since they seek asylum) when I mean refugees, I have to call them culture-enriching individuals or I am hatemongering and will face fines/jailtime. Too left and it;s going the wrong way.
@JustineBieberxoxo I'm sorry, did we step on your bigotry by standing up for ourselves? By even fathoming that we should be treated as EQUALS and not used as jokes? I'm so sorry. Actually No, this ISN'T about political correctness- it's about giving people the same respect you'd expect from others.. IF YOU FEEL you have to fucking tiptoe around us, you have something wrong with you . Is being a bigot just second nature to you or can you open your narrow mind to anything?
@nomorefunds Of coourse it exists bro,I have spent time in Asia and I am a white man.You really want to get into that overly played out word called racsim? It doesn't even have any meaning anymore in my country, just a tool to shut people up for stating truth and everyone with any sense knows it.You honestly believe that white people in America "generally speaking" give a hoot if you are Asian or not?! Really?
Im adopted, i notice white people try hard to adopt their own kind, even going to Russia and adopt their messed up children. Sometimes southern europeans will adopt an south american /latino because of the Roman catholic connection. Northern europeans sometimes adopt a asian girl, almost never a asian boy, just girls. While people of color dont adopt, they go for foster children because the state gives them money to take them in.
Oh please, would everyone just cut the shit! Damn......some people just like what's different or what they're not used to! Its the same with food. If you grew up eating hamburgers your whole life, when you go to another country and try something different, you might gravitate to that paticular food for even longer. All this exotification bullshit, man fuck that. All people are different, and we all like different things. Case fukin closed.......shit.
@yexey don't forget white supremacism there. everything u are is better from what they would like to be, that s why they exotize you, they envy you. it s all passive racism. i have seen many asian ppl hate themselves more than they hate others. there s this girl i saw talking saying she doesnt feel like she fits in any picture eventho no one acts hateful towards her. she just didnt understand where asians fit in the evolution of cultures etc etc
alot of the children in the orpahange in Asian countries are African American & Asian (u.s. military bases) they are considered NOT BEAUTIFUL OR PROFITABLE therefore, they cannot be sold in the entertainment business that most poor countries profit from. It is sad but true. I lived in a few of those Asian countries and decided to dedicate my MA thesis on the forgotten minority biracial children in the orpahanages. If you want more details just email me.
If we exiciticize then the object of the exociticism doesnt seem real? are you f*cking stupid?
exoticization - the conversion of something into a more exotic form; the representation of something ordinary as being exotic; the act of romanticizing elements
Seriously, how the heck did we go from point A to point Z. There are ALOT of missing pieces to the logic of this argument.
@Imjustsumdude01 The point is the women are being OBJECTIFIED>. made into an OBJECT a singular dimensional person based on the exotic stereotypes, versus being seen for who they are as individual peoples & valued for their multiple dimensions.. vs.. oOOOOH, You're an Asian woman.. you love me long time? You must be submissive huh? the Geisha stereotypes & fetishes etc. Exociticism OBJECTIFIES people.
However! IF this film addressed exotification in say, China, over blonde hair/blue eyed women, then, your comment would be correct. Asian men would exotify Caucasian women because they do not fit the mainstream beauty standard in Asia.
So I think you need to be very aware of what context you are addressing. Mexican women are exotified in America because they do not fit the normal beauty standard in America. Same with Africans.
There aren't many blue-eyed, blonde-haired women living in China having to deal with stereotypes, but there are quite a few asian women who have to deal with it every day in the US even though they are as American as anyone else.
And you noted in your comments that it is a social disease in general; women are exotified by men as a whole. However it is extremely erroneous in your part to say that, for example, men exotify blonde hair/blue eyed women at the SAME LEVEL in this context where Caucasian beauty is the ideal and norm. I am not saying that these women, blonde hair/blue-eyed, are not exotified. They most certainly are. But not to the same level to those who do not fit the ideal mold.
Knowing the CONTEXT of the trailer/movie is very important! Since this is most likely set in America, the context is one where the MAINSTREAM model of beauty is still a Caucasian one. Blonde hair and blue eyes, as you noted. Now, if this model is MAINSTREAM and internalized in this country, then, it goes without saying that any other ethnic model of facial characteristic will be exotified.
To Mencado: I have a couple of issues from your three comments.
Comment #1: From what I see from the trailer, the film is not addressing exotification of women BUT a subcategory within the "social disease". It is true, as you say, that men have exotified women in general. However, judging that the trailer is in English, the movie is most likely revolving around English-speaking countries like America.
One last comment, I promise. I don't agree with the practice of censoring. If people are not permitted to say things which others may find unacceptable, the unacceptable thinking behind the words cannot be addressed. People cannot be re-educated unless unacceptable beliefs can be addressed and verbally demolished.
I am sure that there are also many Asian mothers who would not know how to advise their daughters on how to deal with the problem of being 'exoticized' any better than would an adoptive parent from a different ethnicity. So, as well-intentioned as I am sure that this speaker's argument is, to make the assumption that Asian mothers would - necessarily- be able to do so is to make a racist assumption.
That brings me to my one remaining qualm with the line of reasoning in this video. This issue of failing to address the reality of exoticism is not, necessarily, confined to adoptive families. That seems to me to be based on an erroneous assumption.
This movie is about transracial/national ADOPTION, specifically as it relates to asians. They aren't going to take out the time to address ALL the issues of exotification and objectification as it relates to all other people. They are not saying these problems don't exist outside of adoption or asians, they do need to maintain a focus.
Another problem that I have with the speaker's position is this: As I see it, exoticism is only one symptom of a larger social disease. So, by identifying this as strictly an Asian woman's problem, you are detracting focus from the greater issue, which is the objectification of women. Furthermore, by doing so you are, in actuality, contributing to the racist belief that such problems are not universal.
I have a couple of problems with what is being said here. For one, as I see it, the objectification of women based on their ethnic heritage is not confined to being a problem for Asian women alone. Men have, for example acted that way towards blond haired/ blue-eyed women. Men have acted that way towards dark-skinned women, too. Such physical features are determined by genetics, and so are racially based.
