Great upload, first time i heard this song was on a casette somebody made for me. I believe it was 1987 :) Very hard to find and indeed, just awesome.
There were some other songs on that tape including Drive her home, I like that one too.
This photo shows the legendary Shannon Powell in back. Although Snooks normally played with George Porter for the last 30 or so years, some of the Shannon Powell gigs I caught at Mid City Lanes featured the lesser known but equally talented (if possible) Irving Charles on bass. Irving was one of the finest musicians I have ever come across. He is little known outside New Orleans, but probably best known for his many years with Fats Domino. Some of those gigs out of a hundred or so were his best
Saw him do this tune one night at Tips. It was just him and Allen Toussaint as a duo on this one. Well sort of. Snooks was really burning and at points went off on extended riffs and Toussaint just stopped playing and looked kind of perplexed and astonished. Allen knew him as well as anybody.
@hassledguy Not as rare as you would think, especially with New Orleans' artists, specifically the old timers who would have the band set for a 4 minute song then ran it 12 minutes and the band just sirt of worked it out along the way. Having said that, I would have loved to seen Toussaint's face!
