my thought on net neutrality is this: all information on the internet shouldn't necessarily be treated the same by internet providers. Saying all bits on the internet are equal is saying that porn is equal to online banking. that youtube is equal to medical records. By the government they should be treated the same, but by the market place. hell no. people/companies pay premiums when information is important and they want their information to be faster and there is usually a good reason for it
If Comcast and Verizon take over, I hope another big company like Google gives us a third and better option for internet access that's net neutral so those fuckers can go right out of business once and for good. The market will open up to whoever is able and willing to promise us the most freedom online unless the government gets bought out by those internet providers and passes oppressive legislation as it has been doing a LOT lately in favor of corporations. Congress is basically a whorehouse.
And this is why im a Marxist-Communist and not some fucknig CRapShitVative/Libertarian(not rly liberty..allso fuck Ayn Rand, etc...) and Liberals and SocialDemocrats are jokes for beliving in CRapitalism/Fascism!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"Government Intervention" is needed to simply protect the status quo! The telecom companies want to limit what sites you can go to. Forget blogs/independent media and such. You'll only be allowed access to other giant corporate sites. Is dictatorial censorship good if it comes from a corporation? It's amazing how CONservatives have idiots thinking that using THEIR OWN government to simply protect themselves from total corporate exploitation is somehow unAmerican.
I personally like and respect Glenn Beck. I know it is hard to believe, but if you actually watch the show (instead of altered clips) you'd be suprised at how thoroughly he backs up what he says. Hard to argue with a guy who shows video of these people stating what they intend to do! Each to their own.....I'll stand up for what I believe. I still have that right, don't I? lol
Net Neutrality has been in place since the Internet has been privatized. What people have been experiencing the last few years are ISPs blocking websites, redirecting traffic to their own search engines, and throttling usage, for no other reason as that they CAN. ISPs have been operating in good faith - until now. Neutrality is the only way TO KEEP FREE SPEECH on the net! I've experienced this so many times with AT&T and Verizon - LEGISLATION IS NEEDED TO KEEP THE STATUS-QUO!
ideally, we would have extremely low interference from any governmental body in the market(like in Hong Kong). Then, if you wanted to start an ISP, you could do just that and provide better quality at a lower cost than already established ISPs and steal their customers to gain more money and feel the fresh steam of the free market. yesss
If everyone hate "net not-so-neutrality", then ISPs that go down that road will get less customers and the market will provide better choices through competition between the service providers. No need for government intervention in our precious internet.
no it's to stop comcast and others can charging to get extra content ... They shouldn't do that... The internet is not cable ... it's bad enough the television media is corupt we don't need the controling all conmmunication in the name of money
Glenn Beck is a complete moron and bafoon. he is completely and entirely pathetic. He is not a true Libertarian. He is an idiot that wants to be a libertarian, but is to dumb to really grasp the concept. He tries, he really does. But he has the mind of a 5 year old. Libertarians dont have a voice in the mainstream media unless Ron Paul, Rand Paul, or Peter Schiff makes an appearance...the judge that stands in for beck is good too
@drunkenboxer1985 Ron and Rand Paul are equally stupid.. Do you even know what they think about net neutrality? "Libertarians" are a trumped-up offshoot of corrupt America.
@TheNavigateur you're fucking retarded and obviously have no clue what it means to be a libertarian. If u think Ron Paul is stupid then u have no respect for the constitution or civil liberties. Something u might want to remember before u speak from now on: Its better too be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt. Do the world a favor and jump off the tallest building u can find u fuckin moron
@drunkenboxer1985 Sure Ron Paul knows the constitution, Glenn Beck has no idea about it, but Ron Paul has his own ideas about what set of laws are good and not good... that's not constitutionalism.. that's just his own view. The constitution clearly sets out a legislative process by elected representatives to make good law and repeal bad law, and make amendments (such as the First Amendment)... which is PROGRESSIVISM, and is the ONLY good thing about the US constitution. Douchebag.
So how do the two correlate? First I'm supposed to believe I need NN because of state sponsored attacks or because of corporatism. What's next, I can catch swine flu from the internet?
OK, EVERYONE! Obviously, Beck is too stupid to even understand what net neutrality IS. If it's too complicated, just keep the phrase EQUAL ACCESS in mind.
Why wasn't it put in the press? We really are getting attacked 3,000,000 times a day by North Korea? Why hasn't this been brough to the UN or addressed when Bill Clinton went over there?
Now you want to create cyber terrorists? (Like we don't already have them) How will that make us seem worldwide?
Yep more fear and propaganda from the same idiots that gave us the Patriot Act. Promote fear just to ram through any bill you desire.
Tell me how many cyber attacks have actually been able to shut down anything in this country? He states we are attacked "3 million times a day". Well where is the evidence? With those numbers I should be living in the Dark Ages by now.
He basically states he wants the President to be able to shut the internet down whenever the President decides. Now why would any President of a free nation attempt to block free speech? I can't think of a single instance in which that would be necessary, unless you need to censor something or suppress a populist movement.
And how do you know net neutrality won't just take away your 1st amendment rights? I've never seen anyone degrade my internet service for profit and if they did I could simply sue them.
So why do I need another law/regulation for something I can already fix?
Take a look into ISP's throttling bittorrent traffic, or the recent issues of capping bandwidth.
And without net neutrality laws, you CAN'T sue them for throttling your internet traffic. So, you lose.
Imagine internet service that is similar to TV service. Having to pay extra for 'unlimited' internet viewing, or the 'premium' internet package. THAT is what net neutrality is protecting.
You can continue to be paranoid though. Someone needs to support Beck.
Just becuase Obama wants it doesn't necessarily mean it's a great idea hakkecs.
I mean he did after all vote for the Iraq War, supported the continuation of the Patriot Act as a Senator. Now he's continuing the same trends Bush wanted in office now.
I've read the "claims" of what this bill will do to, but until I can actually read the bill I'm not going to fall in line and believe the propaganda that is pushing the bill ethier.
My support of NN has nothing to do with my political affiliation. I support NN because I use the internet every day, and I want it to stay neutral and free.
Don't turn this into an issue of politics because you don't understand how the internet works, or what can be done to prevent it from working. Obama's voting record has nothing to do with NN
The fact that ISP's can ALREADY throttle traffic is bad enough.
Probably the same way any number of private/university owned websites do right now.
And it won't impact my privacy, because they won't be looking at the end user. They will be looking at the ISP.
I don't understand this paranoia about the 'government' taking over our lives. What are you scared of? If you're really that worried, you should take Fox News' advice back in the bush years. "Love it, or leave it." They don't say that much now, do they?
you can make fun of people and their opinions all you want, though some of net neutrality sounds good , it will most deffinitly turn bad what bothers me is the potential for them to have complete control over what you can or cant, say, see, or watch.
If these things dont worry you some and make you question your position on it then you are the one with problems.
I'm well aware of the statements that have been used to promote "net neutrality", but it's clear with both the Bush and Obama administrations what has been told to the public and what actually passes are two different things.
Comcast was taken care of. We don't need another law to create more goverment to regulate free speech or the Internet.
You do a great Glenn Beck but does he REALLY deserve so much attention? I know this isn't a democracy but I vote that you move on to something more thought provoking. Like "Who Killed JFK Jr 1 of 11" (YouTube).
Anyone notice how the Republicans throw around terms such as: Faschism, Marxism, Socialism, Communism, etc. They have accused Obama of being all of these. They obviously don't know the meaning of any of them.
lol.. i know what you mean.. my friend is a cuban American.. him and his parents came over from cuba when he was 10.. him and his family talk about communism... and when they here the republicans in the news, they wish they could send them over to cuba for a lesson in communism
Can Glenn Beck go one freakin week without saying something stupid? Honestly, he can gather all the ratings he wants at Fox news but he is fooling himself if he thinks he is actually helping America with his babblings.
helping himself line his pockets with dirty republican money.. How you noticed how much he talks about being poor, but now hes rich and how great it is to be RICH,.... oh but that he was happier being pore... LMAO!! what a nut.
he doesnt the idea for Obama to shut off the net is more smoke screen , what McCain, who admits he has no idea how to work computers, get so much money from telcoms et al, he does what they say, he does have to pay for 8 homes after all, Songbird, I mean McCain, wants the telecoms to control free speech, simple as that, the repugs hate free speech
McCain is irrelevant. He never had a chance of becoming President and he's a terrible Senator. Quite frankly, I'm not even sure why anyone would elect him.
The issue of Net Neutrality is to make sure everyone has access to the internet. Access to whatever information we antg to look at on the net. It is not about government regulating the net or taking away the right to look at it. Telecoms and the government want to control internet access by taking NN away.
Really? If history repeats itself, NN wll be another 2,000 page bill our "representatives" won't read and months/years later we find out how horrific it was after.
The Patriot Act? The WMDs in Iraq? Gitmo?
Enstien's definition of insanity can be applied here.
I will kick him in the balls if I ever see him in the streets. I don't care if I do get fined or jail time. I doubt any employer will deny me a job after hearing it was for that great of a reason.
If Obama was truly open with the Internet, why does he need the control to shut the entire system down when he (or any future president) decides it? You can see Senator Rockefeller advocating the same policy.
Now as for the court case, I think that's an excellent approach and notice you didn't need this so-called "net neutrality" to solve the problem.
Any "real news" sources I consider outside of the United States. I'm sorry but Fox News, CNN, MSNBC, and the rest of the "mainstream" news have been degraded to political talking points. At least Beck admits he's a commentator when he speaks.
Obama really isn't the issue. It's both parties ramming through idiotic bills.
Yes, it hasn't made it to the Senate floor yet. So how do you even know it's a good idea?
Glenn Beck is about as much of a libertarian as George Bush. He's a fucking authoritarian Neocon like most Republicans today. They only have a problem with the government NOW because it's a Democrat in office and a Congress with a (D) majority. They had no problem with torture, Bush's Patriot Act, the Guantanamo Bay gulag, the Bush White House having critics in the media fired, all critics of Bush being labeled "anti-American traitors" subject to spying and wiretapping, etc.
Or the government deciding what adults can and can't be married, or the government telling women what they can and can't do with their bodies, or the government lying about war and violating international law, or the government using tax dollars to fund private schools and religious organizations, or the government giving away corporate welfare, or the government busting unions and protecting areas where corporations are subject to no law.....
Same here. I take personal offense when Neocons and right-wing populists pretend to be "libertarian" just because they oppose anything and everything that has to do with the government simply because now a Democrat is now in office. They have no problem when Republicans wield authoritarian power.
Anyone who voted for Bush in 2004 has no room to talk about "freedom" after they supported a man who passed the unconstitutional Patriot Act and tried to regulate morality from Congress.
And now Palin's ass. Personally I think she seems like she'd be even worse than Bush. Bush was a puppet but Palin seems like an active schemer who will do anything to get power, and she's more of a religious fanatic than Bush with little compassion for living beings. She also views the world as "real Americans" (Neocon religious freaks) vs. everyone else in the world. Scary.
God helps us if she ever gets into power. She has the makings of a "third world" dictator.
If she gets into the White House, note to the Secret Service; keep an eye out, I'm outta here! I'll move to Canada! I'll move to Europe! Anywhere where she can't fuck with my life!
You honestly think she'd take that long? It didn't take her near that long to fuck up Alaska! Nope, earth; smoking pile of shit in two years. Assuming she doesn't resign after three months in office due to 10,000 ethics charges! Suddenly realizing there ain't no "Department of Law" to save her ass!
Good point! She had so many scandals it was ridiculous. Her early resignation was probably the best thing for Alaska. If she had her way Alaska would have been uninhabitable in the next few years due to her gung-ho support of the disastrous "Drill baby, drill" plan.
She bankrupted Wasilla, yet took tons of oil company bribes. Where did the money go? I have a theory, it involves snow.lol She does realize that it isn't a question of oil supply? We don't have enough refinaries!
Lol! I guess no one will ever really know (though we can assume in her pockets). She might or might not know that we don't have enough refineries but either way she doesn't care, she's a whore for corporate America.
Speaking of Wasilla did you hear about her charging rape victims for rape kits? That alone was enough to make me hate her.
The bird-brain Glenn Beck doesn't know what the hell in hebelieves in... as long as it's anti-Obama, anti-Democrat, anti-Progressive.. and pro-zombie!
I'm neither a conservative nor a Glenn Beck fan, but I'm actually kind of with him on this issue. If we give government the authority to control the Internet, can you imagine what another tyrant like Bush would try to do with that power?
Have you been asleep in a cave for the past year? We STILL have douche bags that won't pass single payer, because of their insurance company masters and the cash they pump into "our" government!
not thinking about too deep are we, they want to make sure that that Big Business does not control the Net or info on it, the law however propsed by Songbird McCain is about controlling the net
this is the same guy that wrote " thank you oil companies while at CNN. this guy scorned those that criticised Prez Bush. the same guy is calling a Democrat Prez a marxist for no apparent reason but his party affiliation. Glen Beck is a partisan hack. a joke.
Did you see his critique of the artwork outside Rockafeller Plaza? He mixed Communism with Fascism! Whatever works, I guess, to keep the masses scared.
it is the only word he knows, lol, looking back at it Marxism makes sense at the time and now, overthrow the assholes that control the "economy" kill all the lawyers, LOL, destroy the idiots that pushed deregulation, free markey fails because human "nature" especially if you are in business is to get more without working hard, where else can you get bonuses for failing comapnies except in the Bush family and on wall street
And you can't get over the fact that Beck and Fox doesn't tell facts. They say Net Neutrality is power grab, but that's exactly what it's trying to stop.
What about the Mass Effect story? Were there any facts told in that story either?
If you believe guys like McChesney, Van Jones, Susan Crawford, Raum Emanual, Marxist, leftists, black racists and communists want you to have free internet, then I got a bridge in brooklyn for sale and you can have for real cheap! What they really want is controlled media just like in Cuba.
Ok, now I just think you are joking. It's like you let Fox does the thinking for you.
Are you even aware that the conservatives support Net Neutrality too. It's just Glenn Beck seeing how far people would go before realizing how gullible they are.
my thought on net neutrality is this: all information on the internet shouldn't necessarily be treated the same by internet providers. he doesnt the idea for Obama to shut off the net is more smoke screen , what McCain, who admits he has no idea how to work computers, get so much money from telcoms et al, he does what they say, he does have to pay for 8 homes after all, Songbird, I mean McCain, wants the telecoms to control free speech, simple as that, the repugs hate free speech
goldgrif 2 years ago
McCain is irrelevant. He never had a chance of becoming President and he's a terrible Senator. Quite frankly, I'm not even sure why anyone would elect him.
Kapan60 2 years ago
The issue of Net Neutrality is to make sure everyone has access to the internet. Access to whatever information we antg to look at on the net. It is not about government regulating the net or taking away the right to look at it. Telecoms and the government want to control internet access by taking NN away.
imaginepeace63 2 years ago
Really? If history repeats itself, NN wll be another 2,000 page bill our "representatives" won't read and months/years later we find out how horrific it was after.
The Patriot Act? The WMDs in Iraq? Gitmo?
Enstien's definition of insanity can be applied here.

Net Neutrality sucks! Come on guys! This is about control. I don't like Beck but he's not wrong here.
MustacheVerra 2 years ago
you're either being sarcastic, or you have no clue what net neutrality is
stafax 2 years ago
If Obama was truly open with the Internet, why does he need the control to shut the entire system down when he (or any future president) decides it? You can see Senator Rockefeller advocating the same policy.
Now as for the court case, I think that's an excellent approach and notice you didn't need this so-called "net neutrality" to solve the problem.
Kapan60 2 years ago
Kapan60
If you get your information from real news sources, you'd know that:
1. Obama (and future presidents) will ONLY have the power to shut down critical government infrastructure to prevent cyber attacks.
2. Obama isn't even sure he want's this bill in place (not NN cause that's a separate issue than what you're talking about)
3. It hasn't even made it to the senate floor yet. It's still in the committee stage.
hakkecs 2 years ago
Any "real news" sources I consider outside of the United States. I'm sorry but Fox News, CNN, MSNBC, and the rest of the "mainstream" news have been degraded to political talking points. At least Beck admits he's a commentator when he speaks.
Obama really isn't the issue. It's both parties ramming through idiotic bills.
Yes, it hasn't made it to the Senate floor yet. So how do you even know it's a good idea?
Kapan60 2 years ago
We are talking about two different bills here. Net Neutrality or, The Internet Freedom Preservation Act is bill H.R. 3458
This is a good idea. You can even read the bill if you want to.
The other bill, S. 773, will give the federal government the power to shut down critical government infrastructure in the event of cyber attacks.
That one is Meh. I'd like to see more about it.

dizzymasekela 2 years ago 3
Waaait!
Why would Glenn Beck be against net neutrality? I thought he was more libertarian than that.
Then again, these days he says whatever he thinks will make him a buck.
writergrrlxox 2 years ago
My ass he's a libertarian!
RadarKat73080 2 years ago 2

The list goes on and on.

RadarKat73080 2 years ago
A86 2 years ago
Kinda hard to claim to be libertarian when you lips are pressed against GW Bush's ass!
RadarKat73080 2 years ago
And now Palin's ass. Personally I think she seems like she'd be even worse than Bush. Bush was a puppet but Palin seems like an active schemer who will do anything to get power, and she's more of a religious fanatic than Bush with little compassion for living beings. She also views the world as "real Americans" (Neocon religious freaks) vs. everyone else in the world. Scary.
God helps us if she ever gets into power. She has the makings of a "third world" dictator.
A86 2 years ago
If she gets into the White House, note to the Secret Service; keep an eye out, I'm outta here! I'll move to Canada! I'll move to Europe! Anywhere where she can't fuck with my life!
RadarKat73080 2 years ago
Seriously! If she gets in (let's hope not) I predict the world, or at least the US, will be reduced to a smoking crater in no more than 8 years.
A86 2 years ago
You honestly think she'd take that long? It didn't take her near that long to fuck up Alaska! Nope, earth; smoking pile of shit in two years. Assuming she doesn't resign after three months in office due to 10,000 ethics charges! Suddenly realizing there ain't no "Department of Law" to save her ass!
RadarKat73080 2 years ago
Good point! She had so many scandals it was ridiculous. Her early resignation was probably the best thing for Alaska. If she had her way Alaska would have been uninhabitable in the next few years due to her gung-ho support of the disastrous "Drill baby, drill" plan.
A86 2 years ago
She bankrupted Wasilla, yet took tons of oil company bribes. Where did the money go? I have a theory, it involves snow.lol She does realize that it isn't a question of oil supply? We don't have enough refinaries!
RadarKat73080 2 years ago

I'm neither a conservative nor a Glenn Beck fan, but I'm actually kind of with him on this issue. If we give government the authority to control the Internet, can you imagine what another tyrant like Bush would try to do with that power?

it is the only word he knows, lol, looking back at it Marxism makes sense at the time and now, overthrow the assholes that control the "economy" kill all the lawyers, LOL, destroy the idiots that pushed deregulation, free markey fails because human "nature" especially if you are in business is to get more without working hard, where else can you get bonuses for failing comapnies except in the Bush family and on wall street
