That particular image at 2:37 is from a film of Brian recording Mrs O'Leary's Cow during Smile. It was Dennis Wilson, Brian's brother, who filmed that during the Smile sessions. The Beach Boys best music was created by Brian. If you get into the Beach Boys music, it is so rewarding.

I love this song. it's so happy, and nice to see them clowning about. But how chubby were Carl and Brian's faces in those days?! They are so cute. Like the way Brian closes his eyes at the end, as if drinking in the melody. Great. thanks for posting.
I've just fallen in love with this track. I'd never heard this one before but finally got a chance when listening to it on the "Today!"/"Summer Days (And Summer Nights)" CD the other night. I must have played the ending a dozen times, it's THAT GOOD! Love that shot of Brian at the end with his plastic fire helmet on, brings tears to my eyes. That's how you end a Beach Boys video....with Brian. 'Nuff said!
One of their many underrated songs, this is a real gem, brians falsetto really flies over the harmonies, would have been such an experience to see the 6 (bruce included) live in their 65-67 pomp.
Well I have left some comments on your channel about my recollections of the time but for others who may find it interesting I can recall that it was hard to actually hear them as there was so much noise from girls who were screaming hehehe .funny that you never realise how great a moment is till it has long passed !!
What priceless footage. And you've got to love the song, if nothing else, for how they're bravely throwing caution to the wind, dispensing with the easy formula, and reaching for the sky.
Brian Wilson is a musical genius!! I love this guy and the beach boys. When I am down. Brian and the Boys are always the cure for the blues. they are the perfect remedy for harmony in my life!!!!!
One of BW's best !! Hey, there, 'skinny' .. great work, congrats !! Yep .. this is rare footage indeed .. not often seen these days. This particular version of LGIOK that you've loaded-up is quite pleasingly, subtly different to the 'official' released version. For instance, it lacks those otherwise-frequent "BOW-BOW-BOW"s from Mike Love - which is a plus, since it allows the listener to take-in MORE of the backing track + prod'n. And a longer than usual ending .. plus more .. just superb !!
I was at that concert The Beach Boys had in Glassglow, Scotland. It was May of 1969. Just got stationed in Holy Loch with the Navy, USS Simon Lake AS-33. One guy on the ship had tickets. Took the rail to Glassglow. Saw the Beach Boys and went back to the ship the next day. Great times!!!!!!

@tomkes100 Hey Tomkes, one of our favourite ' gems ' has appeared in a great book, ' 500 lost gems of the 1960's ' by Kingsley Abbott, as we knew it should and deservedly so !.Hope your doing OK.Roger.
This is a great track. It should have done better in the charts. Radio stations wouldn't play it because of the 5 second break before the chorus. It left stations with "dead air" so anyone tuning in would think the station wasn't there. Strange but true
The Little Girl I Once Knew , classic and so forgotton but now maybe it will get its just dues. something a bit different from the Beachboys but i love this song.. i recall it on my 45 when it first came out. i am a rock historian. i know and praise only the best and this song is a winner in my book. it never got the attention it richly deserves. bless you boys and this song. tOMK simple clean but great this song.
Couldn't agree more, rank it up in the Top 10 best tracks from ' The Boys '.I had it on a contemporary Capitol EP and it was so compressed the recording quality was shocking.Nice to hear it properly and with a longer run out than on the single.Yes,it sure is a masterpiece, the subtle key changes prooving how talented the group were.
When I was 14 I had 34 of their records, including the Stackotracks. They helped me growing up in Noplace, Sweden. This song was always one of my favourites, I used to listen to it going to sleep. Thanks for uploading, and thanks for the footage.
Good question! Sounds (to my untrained ears) like the "Hawthorne, CA" version, then cross-faded with a DIFFERENT mix at the point where the Hawthorne version goes a cappella. The Hawthorne version fades out earlier than this one, and it doesn't feature my (now) favorite thing that I hear at the end of THIS one: the "honk-honk-honk-honk" of the bass sax. Haha! Maybe skinnymulligan07 will reveal the answer?
Well, it does kinda SOUND like the Hawthorn version, i.e. missing Mike L's "bow-bow-bow-bow." However, the Hawthorn version was a mono mix; this is stereo. I think this was obviously a manufactured mix, created by syncing two (or more) different versions. Do I win the "Hang On To Your Ego" coffee mug? lol
Oh...you're right. I was watching this in HQ, but the HQ audio for this video is in mono. In stereo you can clearly hear instrumentation in stereo, but also in the middle from the mono (instruments + vocals) track that it's being synched with. You have to admit, that's a stable sync effort--not "floating around." And u can hear the instruments fade out from the middle track @ 1:55 , and back in around 2:06 -- just like the Hawthorne track. Sooo...this is Hawthorne + stereo instrumental mix?
I recently became aware that Beach Boys' fans love to produce their own custom mixes of BB songs, using various sources, cough cough! Youtuber 'SMiLEReconstruction' has put up both the "Mok" & "Purple Chick" mixes of SMiLE. The latter is said to be "the closest thing we get to what SMiLE would have sounded like had it been released in the 60's," & goes WAY beyond the mono SMiLE tracks from the "Good Vibrations: 30 Years of The Beach Boys" box set. If you're a fan of SMiLE, check it out!
home made stereo using the stereo backing track and synching it to the mono single with vocals..quite well i might add....and it's stereo in 480p now..
This song should have been on Pet Sounds, and " Sloop JB " should have been on " Summer Days/ Nights". it just makes so much more sense musically and thematically. One of those rare times when BW failed to see the potential of his music. Wolfsky9
Capitol wouldn't have allowed that. They wanted a hit single on Pet Sounds. Sloop John B had not that long reached #3 on the charts. Unofrtunately as great a song as TLGIOK is, it only reached #20 on the charts, a disaster in them days for the Beach Boys.
This is what a Beatles tune would sound like if Brian had collaborated with Lennon & MacCartney. One of their best singles that failed to crack the top 5.

the reason this song never made it, it had too much dead air waves in the song and radio stations thought people would turn channels cause they thought the radio station was off the air enjoy

So true - LGIOK was still climbing the charts when they abandoned it for BA - Could have been a Top Ten (or higher) hit - John Lennon was quoted as saying he really dug the song.
