why is it that americans CANNOT use bleach?! the lower the peroxide, the less yellow you get, and you CAN use 10 vol aand bleach, ive even used 7vol in wella . Im ginger and i got it white in 20 min..... Im a professional and ive never fried my hair.. Ive also used 20% on my asian friends and gtten em pale yellow....

if its colored dark hair no also if you use a 10 developer on virgin hair no but sometimes the toner with a 20 developer will lift it a tiny bit at the roots(on virgin hair) if you leave the toner on for under 10 minutes you will be ok
I just dnt kno Wats the "right" toner for my hair situation.. to even to out.. gonna be a hard one for me.. maybe ill try leaning twrds warmer blond shades rather than my fav of cooler white frosted highlites..?

It's chunky blond highlites with light brown all over.. but my highlites came out a dark ugly grey. So we panicked and did Wat I now see u said not to do.. and right away bleached it. Glad I did cuz they became blondish right away.. but then now I'm left with a yellowish color at the roots of my highlites... And then they fade into a light blond.. some are even a white color.
i have the same problem too tryen to match my roots to the rest of the hair, usually if the toner is aplied with a 10 for no longer than 10 it will be fine and alwas keep up with the purple shampoo

well what happened it that the dye was not strong enough so it lifted to a red stage(or you had color in it) which is barely a lift..yes an ash brown will cancel the reds out but then leave your hair brown again if you want your hair light your gonna have to bleach it.. purple shampoo does nothing at the stage your in..so dont use it!!
Okay so my hair was red then like a month ago I died it like a dark brown almost black. An tonight I bleached a couple strands of hair doing the whole peekaboo highlight thing and it's gone like a yellow and some parts a little pink like berly noticeable though. I know you say the toner to go for that is white lady but not knowing I got ivory lady.. Please help! Will that work bring down the yellow and do i bleach it one more time before toning it???

hi..so you want the lighter color to be the ends of the hair..almost like roots grown out??
i say do a section see if you like and it the color combo suits you..remeber not to do a blunt line across the Ombre style has like uneven results...GOOD LUCK!! keep me posted!!
My hair is now red (dyed red) and I want o try blonde... (I went to sallys and got bleach + color I like incase I dont like bleached color l8ter) (My bleach said 20 so thats what I got) Would you suggest I bleach my hair and then how long should I wait to dye it--
well let me tell you this, first off try a section and see how far it lifts and will it even go past the orange stage..check every 10 minutes and if it does lift do not leave on past 45 minutes of it will break off!!
by only doing a section first will help you determine wheather you want all your head an awful color of just a section you can work with!! GOOD LUCK!!

Help, I bleached some highlghts into my hair. The color was beautiful, but not for my skin tone. I can't wear warm.So I got some purple shampoo, it did very little. So out of desperation, I got some drabber. I used a 1 to1 ratio at the advice of a youtube vdeo. My hair really picked up the color. I wanted several shades of ash blond and ended up with two shades of charcoal gray. Yup I now have gray and almost black hair. How can I take out some of the drabber?
ugh sorry this happened go and buy a concentrted shampoo one for cleanising the hair and scalp this should strip some of the drabber color out.. GOOD LUCK..eventually it will fade out!

@mina031788 I think you have to use silverlady for orange...but if you have orange & yellow mixx white lady and silver lady together. the mixing with the developer is 1:2 toner:developer. at least that is what i got from this video and others. cuz my hair is super orange yeloow right now im bout to go see what i can do with toner.

I dye my hair 9ash/20vol. It has too much red now. I tried red out drops, no help, tried 30 vol no help. Tried adding more ash. No. Was told by stylist to mix bleach powder w/20vol. & dont go higher than 20vol for thin hair. My roots turned a straw/bl. So when dying back part of head/roots, (only dyed part area first) I cut hair swatch, dyed it, & it came out ok. Did roots, it turned out lighter gold/wsome red. Not nice. Now afraid to tone in case it wont fix ugly color. I also use showr filt.

Hi! Thanks so much for the advide! I do have a question though.. I've been trying to dye two small highlights on my temples blonde (starting off with black dyed hair). Normally, I would either expect it to go reddish/orange/yellow, but after the first few times stripping and bleaching, it seems to be light orange with a pink glow! It's still healthy luckily.. but I've never had this happen.. What do I do? Do I wait another month and bleach again, or is there a special toner to get the pink out

am i right?? when doing this your suppose to do midstrands (middle part of hair), ends then roots last, is this where your hair is blonde? condition let it rest and try again later but only in the orange areas..with a 20 dev or a hilift blonde..be prepared for breakage!

Help! I am so confused! My highlights have a brassy yellow look to them. I know that I have to use a toner with a violet or blue base to tone the yellow. However all the toners with blue or a violet base are for people with or wanting really light pale blonde hair i.e isn't white lady for people wanting white blonde hair? I want beige blonde highlights but the beige toners don't have a blue base!
Do i just ignore the colour of the toner and pick one depending on the base?
well then in this case apply a biege blonde in your hair..at this point hair is either ready for color or toned..so look for Biege Blonde at sallys..and the white lady will just tone the yellow down..it doenst always make it white

do you mean you were trying to go from blonde to black??
if you were trying to bleach your dark hair..what happened is that the dark dye had an ash or blue base..hair goes thru stages and this is what happened..if your still in the dark stage try a brown with a red base like a level 5 or 6 for now9red base cancels green out)..then later try and relighten ..its a pain to lighten colored hair!!

hey..to tone orange your suppose to use Silver lady..
the white lady is for yellow tones..but let me tell you this thw white lady might lighten just a little bit..also try to only apply on the orangy parts ..good luck!!

i had some highlights done like a week ago but the front ones look darker than the back ones i got the t10 wella toner , i applied it but the roots didnt go to blonde it think it made my root and part of the highlight darker like a brownish blonde kind,i dont wth is there anything u can tell me to do so ill get better thx :)
i stay with a 10 or 20 becuase i jus have a tiny bit of yellow but if you have that golden sunshine yellow a 40 will work but try sticking with a 30..the 40 and 30 will lhelp lift the yellow so dont be surprised if you still see some yellow tones.. GOOD LUCK!! keep me posted!

use the white lady with a 20 or even a 10 dont leave longer than 15min or ur hair might have a lavendar tint..that will wash away..but the whitelady will cancel anyyellow tones and slightly lightn the pale orange parts..GOOD LUCK!!

Is there a toner for 'ash blonde' hair? Last year I tried bleaching my hair (no toner) and dyed my hair with an ash blonde color, but it turned into just a light yellow with a bit of green tint from the ash blonde hair dye, so I just dyed it red afterwards.

you can try mixing a lil bit of bleach(with 10 or 20 dev) with ur shampoo and it should just erase it..but try only appling to the pink areas...not on any dark hair..or it might lighten...GOOD LUCK!!
This helped a lot!!! I'm currently in the process of bringing my hair back to life after having a horrible time at the salon. I wanted to go blond and they said they would be able to do it. Mentioning all the right things (like toning it down and what not) but instead they bleached it (all over! Even the roots first then the rest of the hair) for 80 mins... just to dye it brown!!! I'm so glad my hair didn't break off, I'm giving it extra T.L.C. now. Sorry, just needed to vent. :P

@FUNKYMACGIRL Not sure if my follow up question posted. I was advised by a Sally's rep to use Ion Color Brilliance W/10 vol (1:1 ratio)to tone my Bleached Blonde. The package states 2:1 with 20 vol. to do a tone on tone. I too thought it should be 10 vol. (to just deposit) ..what is your opinion?
Also will I have any issue's with even color due to bleaching (porousity)?

I watched your video and went to Sally's and got a toner. I used it and it worked. I have long hair and I should have bought 2 toner tubes, so there are two spots on my hair I didn't get. I've bleached/toned my hair from nat drk blnde/lght brwn to platinum for 10 yrs. I had used Wella SpeedLite that inclds a dark solution U include w/poweder & toner. They stopped selling it. I got a diff mix that I'd never used B4 & burned me, so I'm gun-shy.

hey um, i want to colour my mums hair, its currently like a medium blonde, i want to colour it 3 blondes, dark blonde, medium and then a light blonde. i was going to put an over all base colour of dark blonde, mix it with a 20 vol. then i was going to put the highlights in, but not sure how to get them different colours? do i need to use bleach for that or just the toners? and if that is right do i just mix 2 different colours with a 10 vol? thanks for the help.... :)
hi i wanted to know about double processes. my friend wants me to do it for her. she has very dark hair...almost black. she wants to go to a dirty blonde. what are the steps to makeing her that color? i was gunna put protective cream around the face, then use 30 developer with basic white bleech all over the head in foils. and then use some type of toner if needed....is that right?
The stage that my is in,.. (cont) is it a bad idea to use 30 dev with the toner? Should i wait awhile before using the toner so my hair doesnt become mushy? the texture isnt extremely strawlike, but its more along the lines of being heat damaged (not as bad). THANK YOU SO MUCH

this is my story, I highlighted my hair, it turned orange. next day I dyed it a light mahogany. I had planned to do this. now I have orange hair where the highlights are. waited 2 weeks, dyed it again. this time a frosty blonde to see if any change would occur. It did...it got more orange. I have naturally dark brown hair but have had it highlighted for a long time, so now it is a light/medium blonde colour. Highlights are just so expensive to keep up. But my roots get really bad so i was wondering whether i could do an all over blonde colour over the highlights to make it one dimensional (ish) then just bleach and the roots as it grows? x
for your info, my hair is naturally about a level 6, i used ion violet level 9, and i'd say its about a level 7-8 in some places, yellow and orange. YUCK!

toner will work best on hair that is brassy it will tone out yellow and orange tones, using the right toner.

Hello.. love watching Ur vids.. Ur awesome.. question... I got my hair done like 2wks ago by a lady that works from home. It's chunky blond highlites with light brown all over.. but my highlites came out a dark ugly grey. So we panicked and did Wat I now see u said not to do.. and right away bleached it. Glad I did cuz they became blondish right away.. but then now I'm left with a yellowish color at the roots of my highlites... And then they fade into a light blond.. some are even a white color.

i have the same problem too tryen to match my roots to the rest of the hair, usually if the toner is aplied with a 10 for no longer than 10 it will be fine and alwas keep up with the purple shampoo

Ok i have a question I had bought hair color beige blonde but when I opened it ok dum of me of course I didn't read the side it was only upto medium brown and mine natural is black it turn my hair red orange so I tried to tone it and nothing really I tried with shimmer lights and nothing so I went to sallys and they told me to get ash so nothing again several days later I tried tone it and shampoo it and nothing what can I do if I tried what I can

well what happened it that the dye was not strong enough so it lifted to a red stage(or you had color in it) which is barely a lift..yes an ash brown will cancel the reds out but then leave your hair brown again if you want your hair light your gonna have to bleach it.. purple shampoo does nothing at the stage your in..so dont use it!!

Okay so my hair was red then like a month ago I died it like a dark brown almost black. An tonight I bleached a couple strands of hair doing the whole peekaboo highlight thing and it's gone like a yellow and some parts a little pink like berly noticeable though. I know you say the toner to go for that is white lady but not knowing I got ivory lady.. Please help! Will that work bring down the yellow and do i bleach it one more time before toning it???

toners are meant to be used with 20s but a 10 will also do if the yellow is bearly noticible!!
a 30 would work best when theres a slight orange in the hair!!

well let me tell you this, first off try a section and see how far it lifts and will it even go past the orange stage..check every 10 minutes and if it does lift do not leave on past 45 minutes of it will break off!!
by only doing a section first will help you determine wheather you want all your head an awful color of just a section you can work with!! GOOD LUCK!!

Help, I bleached some highlghts into my hair. The color was beautiful, but not for my skin tone. I can't wear warm.So I got some purple shampoo, it did very little. So out of desperation, I got some drabber. I used a 1 to1 ratio at the advice of a youtube vdeo. My hair really picked up the color. I wanted several shades of ash blond and ended up with two shades of charcoal gray. Yup I now have gray and almost black hair. How can I take out some of the drabber?

ugh sorry this happened go and buy a concentrted shampoo one for cleanising the hair and scalp this should strip some of the drabber color out.. GOOD LUCK..eventually it will fade out!

you just have to check every ten minutes some hair will lift faster than others...and don't over apply

@mina031788 I think you have to use silverlady for orange...but if you have orange & yellow mixx white lady and silver lady together. the mixing with the developer is 1:2 toner:developer. at least that is what i got from this video and others. cuz my hair is super orange yeloow right now im bout to go see what i can do with toner.

I dye my hair 9ash/20vol. It has too much red now. I tried red out drops, no help, tried 30 vol no help. Tried adding more ash. No. Was told by stylist to mix bleach powder w/20vol. & dont go higher than 20vol for thin hair. My roots turned a straw/bl. So when dying back part of head/roots, (only dyed part area first) I cut hair swatch, dyed it, & it came out ok. Did roots, it turned out lighter gold/wsome red. Not nice. Now afraid to tone in case it wont fix ugly color. I also use showr filt.

hello. i went to the salon a while ago to get ash blond highlights, but was told that my hair is too dark so the highlights won't turn out as expected. anyways, i came home with orange more like golden blond highlights. if i wanted to make it lighter by doing it at home, would i use a sliver or ash blond toner and apply it all over my hair?? i've seen girls with pure white ash blond or platinum blond with dark black base. how to achieve that? hope to hear from you.

Hi! Thanks so much for the advide! I do have a question though.. I've been trying to dye two small highlights on my temples blonde (starting off with black dyed hair). Normally, I would either expect it to go reddish/orange/yellow, but after the first few times stripping and bleaching, it seems to be light orange with a pink glow! It's still healthy luckily.. but I've never had this happen.. What do I do? Do I wait another month and bleach again, or is there a special toner to get the pink out

am i right?? when doing this your suppose to do midstrands (middle part of hair), ends then roots last, is this where your hair is blonde? condition let it rest and try again later but only in the orange areas..with a 20 dev or a hilift blonde..be prepared for breakage!

Help! I am so confused! My highlights have a brassy yellow look to them. I know that I have to use a toner with a violet or blue base to tone the yellow. However all the toners with blue or a violet base are for people with or wanting really light pale blonde hair i.e isn't white lady for people wanting white blonde hair? I want beige blonde highlights but the beige toners don't have a blue base!
Do i just ignore the colour of the toner and pick one depending on the base?

well then in this case apply a biege blonde in your hair..at this point hair is either ready for color or toned..so look for Biege Blonde at sallys..and the white lady will just tone the yellow down..it doenst always make it white
unless the hair is already pale with a hint of yellow..Ion Brillince has great blondes!!,,good luck

do you mean you were trying to go from blonde to black??
if you were trying to bleach your dark hair..what happened is that the dark dye had an ash or blue base..hair goes thru stages and this is what happened..if your still in the dark stage try a brown with a red base like a level 5 or 6 for now9red base cancels green out)..then later try and relighten ..its a pain to lighten colored hair!!

i stay with a 10 or 20 becuase i jus have a tiny bit of yellow but if you have that golden sunshine yellow a 40 will work but try sticking with a 30..the 40 and 30 will lhelp lift the yellow so dont be surprised if you still see some yellow tones.. GOOD LUCK!! keep me posted!

use the white lady with a 20 or even a 10 dont leave longer than 15min or ur hair might have a lavendar tint..that will wash away..but the whitelady will cancel anyyellow tones and slightly lightn the pale orange parts..GOOD LUCK!!

Is there a toner for 'ash blonde' hair? Last year I tried bleaching my hair (no toner) and dyed my hair with an ash blonde color, but it turned into just a light yellow with a bit of green tint from the ash blonde hair dye, so I just dyed it red afterwards.

This helped a lot!!! I'm currently in the process of bringing my hair back to life after having a horrible time at the salon. I wanted to go blond and they said they would be able to do it. Mentioning all the right things (like toning it down and what not) but instead they bleached it (all over! Even the roots first then the rest of the hair) for 80 mins... just to dye it brown!!! I'm so glad my hair didn't break off, I'm giving it extra T.L.C. now. Sorry, just needed to vent. :P

I wanted to ask if there is a Brand that carries a Blonde shade that I could apply to my level 12 (Bleached Blonde) hair to tone it without ANY damage. I would like it as a temporary color in a level 11N, 10N or 9 Neutral.
I want to be able to TRY the color before I apply a permanent shade!
Since my hair is bleached (porous) would color apply evenly once I eventually found my perfect color?

@FUNKYMACGIRL Not sure if my follow up question posted. I was advised by a Sally's rep to use Ion Color Brilliance W/10 vol (1:1 ratio)to tone my Bleached Blonde. The package states 2:1 with 20 vol. to do a tone on tone. I too thought it should be 10 vol. (to just deposit) ..what is your opinion?
Also will I have any issue's with even color due to bleaching (porousity)?

well to tone its best to use a 20 it deposits and lifts jus a lil
the 10 will jus deposit...IF u want to use a 10 thats fine to
but if the ratio is 2:1 do it the way it says!!
say ur hair was white witha tiny teeeny hint of yellow then u can use the 10 you wouldnt want to lift ANYMORE!!

@FUNKYMACGIRL LOL!!! Can You see me ..LOL!! You described my hair perfectly! Yes I am Very light..To give you and idea I am slightly above a 12n in Color Brilliance with some yellowness. What I want to achieve is an All over SLIGHTLY darker shade (12n) to look more natural.
If I use a 10v would I do a 2:1 or 1:1 ration.

Hi there! You've very informative, thanks! I have dirty blonde hair, just bleached it for only 30 minutes and the top near my dark roots was brassy. I watched your video and went to Sally's and got a toner. I used it and it worked. I have long hair and I should have bought 2 toner tubes, so there are two spots on my hair I didn't get. The roots are still a tad brassy and I wonder if I can do the toner again just one the roots. On parts in the back it looked like it was turning gray.

I've bleached/toned my hair from nat drk blnde/lght brwn to platinum for 10 yrs. I had used Wella SpeedLite that inclds a dark solution U include w/poweder & toner. They stopped selling it. I got a diff mix that I'd never used B4 & burned me, so I'm gun-shy.
I use Wellite (w/o 3rd solution) & pastey goop freaked me out. Until I saw your vid. Nice 2 know I've been doing everything ok. I appreciate U puttin this up. & U use the same things I do!
Great video - helped me get my confidence back.

well this only depends if ur hair can take another chemical process!!
but a toner with a 10 would be the less damaging to ur hair!!

after being able to hear u this time, what do u do when ur hair goes white, bright orange and a yellow. b/c it did that to mine hair when i did it and its weird b/c i keep checking it then 5 when i washed it out it went to those three.is that normal? also ty why is black color dye to get out? I'm a dark reddish brown and want to put carmel color in , do i use the bleach to do so b/c i have natural black/dark brown hair color .sry if its a stupid question. Are u on LA ink?

i need a 20 developer. i have dark brown natural hair, dyed light brown, but it looks brassy/reddish. i want a cooler tone, so i need a toner that just... lifts a bit. idk but no stylists around here want to touch me because they don't know what they're doing. i'll do it myself!

my hair is medium brown but i want it to be a very light blonde almost white but not too white haha,once i have bleached it&washed it out,do i apply the toner straight away&what do i mix it with?how long would u recommend roughly to leave it?i have heard that if there is still some orange u can retouch it with bleach after 24 hrs,would i repeat the same process with the toner as before?so sorry to bother you but this is the first time bleaching my hair & i want to make sure i do it properly xx

hey um, i want to colour my mums hair, its currently like a medium blonde, i want to colour it 3 blondes, dark blonde, medium and then a light blonde. i was going to put an over all base colour of dark blonde, mix it with a 20 vol. then i was going to put the highlights in, but not sure how to get them different colours? do i need to use bleach for that or just the toners? and if that is right do i just mix 2 different colours with a 10 vol? thanks for the help.... :)

hi i wanted to know about double processes. my friend wants me to do it for her. she has very dark hair...almost black. she wants to go to a dirty blonde. what are the steps to makeing her that color? i was gunna put protective cream around the face, then use 30 developer with basic white bleech all over the head in foils. and then use some type of toner if needed....is that right?

yes...now determine if her is natural black or colored...
if colored what might happen is the ends will come out orangy..
so i would do a section and see what the results are...

The stage that my is in,.. (cont) is it a bad idea to use 30 dev with the toner? Should i wait awhile before using the toner so my hair doesnt become mushy? the texture isnt extremely strawlike, but its more along the lines of being heat damaged (not as bad). THANK YOU SO MUCH

Thanks!! How long should I wait til I do what you recommended? I just re-bleached my highlights, just to see what would happen... It slightly changed. But as far as the t18(purple) and 30 dev....can I do that right away?? and will it also lighten the rest of my orange hair? if so, what color would it become? Thanks!!! :)

this is my story, I highlighted my hair, it turned orange. next day I dyed it a light mahogany. I had planned to do this. now I have orange hair where the highlights are. waited 2 weeks, dyed it again. this time a frosty blonde to see if any change would occur. It did...it got more orange. I bought purple shampoo to take the brassy/orange away!! they never told me about a blue base for the problem that I had. im afraid to use the purple sh. on my orange hair. What would happen if i do?

well using a blue toner will just tone it down..
if u use the t18(purple) with a 30 it will slightly lift it a lil more..
the purple shampoo will do nothing on orange hair just yellow hair!!

u would have to lighten a lil and dye between the ranges of color 6-8 depending on the color you want..

I have naturally dark brown hair but have had it highlighted for a long time, so now it is a light/medium blonde colour. Highlights are just so expensive to keep up. But my roots get really bad so i was wondering whether i could do an all over blonde colour over the highlights to make it one dimensional (ish) then just bleach and the roots as it grows? x

for your info, my hair is naturally about a level 6, i used ion violet level 9, and i'd say its about a level 7-8 in some places, yellow and orange. YUCK!

hi ok well i finialy got my hair alittle white but it still has a yellow tint so i bought a cream toner extra light platinum base blue violet but the lady at sallys said dont put it all over your hair it will turn your hair blue because my hair was close to white? is this true cus i want to try it cus i want my hair whiter.

Hey so I watch all ur videos and I love ur advice, recently I went and added chunks in my black hair and my hair is an orangy color. the lady told me to go back in 2 weeks to bleaach it again. im not sure that it needs to be bleached again, is there anything I can do to lighten it to a blonde without bleaching again?
