  • This ad was on TV in NZ about 5 mins ago lol. On The Gruen Transfer

  • This section of the show, "The Pitch", takes something supposedly 'unadvertisable' and challenges two people to commercialise it. It's not a genuine advertisement.

  • I'd eat whale meat. I hear its delicious.

  • maaaan fuck the whales

  • How come no one questions the American Eskimo tribes for whale hunting ?

  • Comment removed

  • who thought that this was funny? i didnt this was trashy

  • @goriokun it's not real, its a parody

  • dont give a fuck

hehe whats the extinction have to do with how well our enviroment goes

unless some shitty thing happens to us if they all die i might give a fuck

but if its all sentimental value hahaha

that would be hilariouse if they die

  • Australia stop eating whales, dolphins, and kangaroos!

  • @soopaflychic lol

  • @soopaflychic Kangaroos are not endangered and they are in Australia. Japan could hunt whales in their own waters but they hunt them in a whale conservation area.

Perhaps you should stop eating mountain gorilla's, people and Whales!

  • @soopaflychic We eat Kangaroos but Whales and Dolphins?

where did you get that piece of infomation.

  • please japs, don't kill our whales, just kill our kangaroos.

  • @aboriginalmang

    stfu abo whale is good

  • oh ya come to think of it.. what happened to the legal case? did it disappear behind the blank pages of newspapers, just like the NT intervention? ...

  • @teddythebenny There seems to be a resurgence of propaganda from japan. It always coincides with some goings-on.

Gillard probably hasn't let the thought enter her mind, but I know that Rudd recently visited Japan, (on the 13th Oct). There is some news about it if you google whaling / news.

Unfortunately whales have almost nothing to do with Japans ambitions. Otherwise of course they would already have stopped.

  • thats not a ad cause ABC doesnt show ads

  • @GayBoyRunning * Its from a show on the ABC called The Gruen Transfer which is all about advertising and how it affects sales, this ad was an entry for a challenge they had each week where they try to sell the unsellable, everything from selling ice to Eskimos, promoting child labour, invading NZ and including whale meat as a measns of showing how advertising works.

  • @CalyxAsgard yer i know that cause i what the show...

  • Hi Hamish

  • That whale meat looks good....fuck, I'm hungry.

  • whale meat is good meat, same with baby seals, its so moist and tender, i could eat it evryday.

imo we should lock down all whales and seal, so we can kill them when we want instead of hunting those fuckers, fucin baby seals are fast, takes ages to bat them down.

  • @williamvr666 OMG LOL, sorry I don't know if it's a joke but you made my day with that comment.

  • What? Angus bull are all black :(

  • There's tasteful humour .. & then there's offensive, poor-taste shit like this piece. There ARE limits where dignity ceases, after all. Not impressed.

  • @colindominy Who cares if you got a little offended, Princess? Don't watch it.

  • There is no difference in the value of the life. 200 cows and 1 whale. They simply carry the same value. We need to be thankful to the blessing that they give us, not to make fun of it.

  • @Metalwarmachine91 Poor little troll is confused, is calm rational refutation beyond your tiny jibbering over-opinionated brain to deal with? It's ok, just remember that your opinion and world views are utterly meaningless and nothing you say here or anywhere else will have any impact on anyone ever.

    We are done talking now.

Also, checked out your profile, you are either a terrible troll or a child. Anyhoo this has been a fun little diversion, rational mellow intellectual man awayyyyyyyy!

  • @Metalwarmachine91 What? I'm confused, no wait I think you're confused. At no point have I supported any organisation that could be considered "tree huggy". In fact I grew up on a farm that often had problems with the irrational combative nature of such individuals getting in the way of farm operations.

My comment was referring to the fact that -anyone- that gets angry over such an obvious joke needs to lighten up.

In summary, learn to fucking read you obnoxious idiotic schoolchild.

  • GT I love the show.

  • Anyone raging here is automatically wrong. which ever side they choose.

    Animals eat animals.

    Humans are animals.

BUT we are smart enough to go against our instincts, if we choose to do so.

Many species of whales are endangered, and the Japanese don't care what kind of whale they find, its dead either way.

Animals that are farmed don't get a chance and yes, its cruel.

Humans have farmed animals since very early times. Its called being the dominant species.

We cant change our natural ways.

  • @JETPlusNDP

"Japanese don't care what kind of whale they find"

Utter fucking bollocks from another sheeple.

  • Also worth watching the Cove on Japan's inhumane slaughter of countless dolphins.

  • The difference is that beef in Australia is killed humanely. Whales and dolphins are killed barbarically by the Japenese. Thats the difference.

  • Its helarious that people loose their shit over this joke add. Honestly where has everyones humour gone.

  • @Mittau

Because not only its just not funny, the humor is tasteless. It's like making fun of the holocaust. Hundreds of whales die needlessly over this REAL issue.

  • @Eceoes Millions of COWS die each year when we eat them. That's the point of the JOKE ad

    FFS

  • @Eceoes: That is disgusting remark. Killing cattle or even whales is not like murdering millions of Jews. If you can't see that, you are really screwed up.

  • This ad is a joke and was featured on the television show The Gruen Transfer, a show which takes a comical in depth look at the world of advertising.

  • Is this a real commercial? Very funny but I'd guess it was just a joke.

  • auzzys can suck a fat cock fucken bunch of poofters. kill them whales fuck the world

  • i feel sick when aussie say "SAVE WHALES".

fat auusie difinitly kill more animals than average japanese.

i hate aussie because they are hypocrisy.

    most annoying country

  • Everything hypocritical to a hypocrite, just like everything is racist, to a racist.

It is the flaw of a coward - YOU

  • so according to ur logic everyone's a bitch to a bitch and everyone's a fag to a fag.

Do I sound like a fag to u? LMAO XD

  • You misinterpreted what I said.

If someone calls everyone a bitch, they are a bitch, and same goes with fag...

They are both different, so I wouldn't extrapolate it that way. There may be some truth, but neither relates to nationalism.

Saying that, if I went about calling everyone whose political bent disagrees with mine a bitch or a fag, people should question my motives, no?

Anyway, I was speaking to capitanocoss - a hypocrite.

You do sound like a fag, btw, but for other reasons...

  • I hate Japan because they are the most racist country, just look at the way they treat blacks; like exotic animals they haven't seen before.

  • Really? "auusie" make you sick? shall we talk about Japanese prison camps maybe?

  • @capitanocoss we dont kill endangerd speacies u small dicked asian prick

  • @Bikertothemax1

    Minkes aren't endangered dipshit

  • @APsupportsTerrorism dipshit ur self because they take any kind of whale they can get their yellow hands on.

  • @Bikertothemax1 No, they hunt Minke, Humpback, and Fin whales, no others.

  • @Spencerkun123 The humpback whale was declared an endangered speacies in 1966, the Minke whale is also endangered with only 800,000 left in the world, and the Fin whale has 120,000 - 150,000 and have also been declared endangered. it is SO easy to find these facts. it took me 5 mins. next time READ. the japanise are arrogant and wont stop and they have the audacity to tell us its for "scientific reaserch".

  • @Bikertothemax1 Go to the IUCN red list and search for Humpback and Minke whales. They're not endangered.

Also, since 2008, they've only killed 2 Fins.

  • @Spencerkun123 dude type into google "Humpback endangered" your an DUMBASS and have you read the paper? they are now fishing WHALESHARKS and Australia is SUEING them. so shove it up ur ass you know nothing tool.

  • @Bikertothemax1 w w w . iucnredlist . c o m

Go there and look up "humpback," you know-nothing tool.

  • @Spencerkun123 ahah sorry you are actually right the humpback whale is NOT an endangered speacies any longer but WAS and their population is only at 40,000 last count. thats not very many. still if hunting continues it wont be long before they are back on that list again.

  • @Bikertothemax1 Well, for one, many have estimated that there are close to 1 million humpbacks in the world.

Second, the Japanese have not taken a humpback since 1966, this is of their own free will.

  • @Spencerkun123 but now the japanese are taking WHALE SHARKS!!! Australia is going to take them to court over it, and i for one cannot wait. the fact that they mark their ships with "RESEARCH" just shows how arrogant they are.

  • @Bikertothemax1 I can't find anything about Japan hunting whale sharks, only China.

Australia doesn't have a case. They're just gonna get roflpwned by Japanese legal experts.

They mark their ships "RESEARCH" because that's what they're there for.

  • @Spencerkun123 So where is the research? Anyone knows you can't kills 1000's of whales without producing anything worthwhile. No legal expert can talk his/her way around that.

  • This ad was just a joke,Australia is against any form of whaling.

  • @DancingTeddy12 I know.

  • @DancingTeddy12

I'm born in Australia and I'm Australian, but I really enjoy eating fresh whale beef.

Not all australians are against it. A little balance goes a long way.

Here in norway my family are harvesting minke whales and we eat it often, it's great. Whale beef really is the Beef of the sea.

Save the Whale, for me ! Yummy !

  • @Logicbeatslies icrwhale(dot)org has all the research material you need.

  • @Spencerkun123 uh.. what do you mean you can't find anything on whale sharks? We're talking about whales..

  • @Chooky707 Someone said "but now the japanese are taking WHALE SHARKS!!! "

  • plenty of dolphins.. why not eat them? lol

  • lma no its not worse to eat farmed animals, theres millions of them!!!! teh Japanese are ruthlessly trying to kill and eat whale species that only have about 800 individuals left!! we dont usually hunt wild animals for domestic reasons. and if we killed pigs in 3 months.... you'd be buying little piglets from the stores u idiot, they wouldn't be big enough. even domesticated animals have long, happy lives most of the time. they simply could not survive in the wild, thats why they never have

  • wow you're an idiot. Aussies don't say that. thier reason for not wanting people to kill whales is that the japs are hunting endangered species..STUPID. umm... sheep and kangaroos are way over-populated over there, they're pests so they NEED to kill them. lmao ur you're the biggest fking idiot ever since there are no deer in australia. plus sheep are the dumbest animals on the planet.... and every country kills cows and pigs and sheeps...and deer.. and other mammals, so u shudnt be talking

  • the same chemical imbalence that produces vegetarians also produces serial killers and used car salesmen, im not joking

  • hitler was a vegetarian to

  • that was funny!!! ;)

  • this is definetly not an aussie commercial, because Aussies dont support the chink's stupid whaling, we're the only ones that are down there doing anything about it (thanks ya good-for-nothing-selfish-snobby- yanks!)

  • It was for the gruen transfer an Australian show that looks at advertising it was a joke.

And I think i was quite funny

  • "pigs, cows, sheep, kangaroos, deers and other mammals" are not endangered.

Australian's do not pretend to kill their meat for 'scientific purposes'.

And the animals that are killed are slaughtered in a painless fashion, rather than being torpedoed, dragged through the ocean for miles and slowly electrocuted.

    All Australians are not racist.

Oh... and another gripe. By calling an entire nation racist... doesn't that make you one?

  • @cdortkamp amen, coulnd't have said it better myself

  • @cdortkamp wooops sorry for the thumbs-down, i was tryin to do a thumbs-up ;p

  • Yea

and when I was in Japan no one ate whale meat anyway

  • That would be true, if humans needed to eat wild animals to survive, but in reality, modern society has moved too far and can't back away.

Japan would survive 1 day on the wild animals living in and around Japan, but you live on farmed animals as a matter of survival.

You have to. Your population would be 100,000 MAX, if you didn't use farmed products, so there really is no argument.

Commercial whaling has the potential to destroy the worlds whales in a few years.

    It's common sense.

  • People can still survive even if they are vegans or vegetarians.

Therefore if anyone is truly commmited to stop cruelty against animals (incl. whales) or reduce pollution then they should be vegetarians, otherwise they are just faking it.

  • @DAIWANGO2 lmao we need meat to survive for the proteins, its the best way to get it. plus, its not cruel, i've explained afterlife in another comment to you, and it would barely stop pollution.

  • stop slaugtering cows and roos, they died painfully for people who pretend to be animal lovers. THose people are fake to the core

  • The people who argue against whaling on the grounds of cruelty to animals, are also those who argue against killing all animals, especially Kangaroos.

You are choosing to bundle all those who are against whaling, into a single group, so that you can call them hypocrites, which is not the case.

I am against whaling, especially being lied too, re: "research", and I respect the ban, knowing how few whales were left a short time ago.

I am happy to eat farmed animals, just not endangered species.

  • @Logicbeatslies how bout farming and eating dogs? according to u its acceptable, get real and stop pretending to be righteous

  • eatin dog and pigs is filthy. I wuld like to eat wales to try it. if tasts good it is ok to kil them

  • @CREvoTheGreat

    That's culturally insensitive.

  • halal meat is also filthy and cruel to prepare. I promise you there will be less sucide bombers if all muslims are vegetarians.

  • These are not angus cattle (angus cattle are black) and halal beef is no different to non halal beef we do both at the meatworks where I work (in Australia).

Halal slaughtermen say a prayer to the animal after it is stunned before slaughter the animal does not suffer it is unconscious before having its coroutid artery in the neck cut.

The animal must walk to the slaughter area and it faces Mecca prior to being stunned by a pnumatic hammer to the temple.

    Your comments are ill informed.

  • Slaughtering of animal for food is cruel and unnecessary nontheless, wether it's done painfully or not.

  • @DAIWANGO2 its not cruel to 'slaughter' animals for food, why's it really matter? the thing's dead anyways and if you're a religious no-life loser, they'll go to heaven..., or if you're in your right mind, (which you're clearly not, ex. vege head) they'd get reincarnated. you dont know if what happens to an organism after they die is good or not, so how do you know the animals aren't having a great time, and are greatful to the meat-eaters for killing them, and are hating faggots like you

  • ya i'll hear u moan in pain and stuff u with some butter before making u into a BBQ, then i'll explain to the police that u have gone to heaven,

look at what ur commenting dumbarse

  • lmao, you should be the one looking at what you're commenting on. the animals dont die slowly, it's very sudden and doesn't hurt them at all, idk who brain-washed you, but you've got this all wrong.

  • I would think you got brainwashed into thinking slaughtering and eating animals is the right thing to do when it's clearly not. Would you prefer to take a child for a tour in an abattoir or an orchard.

  • @DAIWANGO2 hahahahaaaaaaa!!!! if all muslims were vegetarians they'd ALL want to kill themselves because of the torture, so there would be waaaaay more suicide bombers you dumb-fuck!!

  • you eat too much meat, get aclean life by becoming a vegetarian

  • naw, i just eat enough meat to keep me HEALTHY. i kinda need to eat meat to stay healthy and not go looney like you.

  • name me one protein u can't get from soy products or veges

feed yourself to a shark, sharks need your meaty body to survive. LOL

  • @DAIWANGO2

Farming and eating dogs would be acceptable. Good example, because for my love of dogs, I'd cringe, but just the same, an outcry over that would be hypocritical, and culturally insensitive.

HOWEVER, nobody does that. Your example is hypothetical. I am sure there is no shortage of hypothetical excuses. Try to keep it real.

  • koreans peopl farm dog sucsesfuly

  • @Logicbeatslies

Dont get me wrong, i do not support whaling nor eating dogs, and i go one step further, i am an vegetarian.

The point i am trying to get across is that those who are against whaling and eating dogs should really have a good look at their own diet and find out whether they are hypocrites or not.

  • @DAIWANGO2 why would it matter for people to look at what they're eating to know if they're hypocritic or not? whale or dog meat obviously isn't in any food because is illegal in most of the world. and if anyone here is the faggot, its definetly you, sorry that we eat meat, we just want to not upset the balance of nature, keep populations down, and maintain a healthy diet. what have you vege heads done? besides make animals suffer from over-population...(lack of food)L0L

  • "20012607"

ur really poor at understanding natural science

before humans started domesticating animals, were there evidence of wild pig or cow overpopulation in the wild? Nature will take its course and balance animal population

  • HAHA you've got it the other way around. we've got nature in a pretty good balance right now. if we were to stop domesticating and killing animals, then they'd be in the wild. then there would be more food for wolves, bears...etc. then those animals would over populate because they dont have a big threat of predators. then they'd over-populate. they'd come into our cities, there would be more attacks on humans.

YOU NEED TO LEARN YOU NATURAL SCIENCE CHILD...

  • You also need to learn from scientific evidence that whale population is also increasing, and threatening the stock of animal planktons in sea, which other fishes such as tuna, rely on. In particular, mink whales are regarded as cockroaches of the sea, because of its increasing population and threat to the stocks of fishes.

  • AHH yeah... that makes sense since most whale species are endangered..... lmao idk where u got ur info from but its definetly wrong. threatening plankton levels? i can promise you there are millions upon millions of plankton till in the sea, whales are no threat to anything.

  • 1. but not all whale species are endangered. Thus it is wrong for you to say it is definitely wrong. haha.

    2. Yes, increase in whale population does affect stock of planktons. Go and learn marine food chain.

    3. You know, looking at your previous comments, I can see that your arguments are clearly biased and racist, saying words such as "chink", which is offensive to any asian population. Being biased in this way weakens any form of your argument, so you should just keep your thought 2 yourself

  • looks like you're the one that needs to keep your thoughts to yourself since you're clearly mis-informed.

  • If people stop breeding farm animals in captivity then there would be no overpopulation whatsoever, NOW GO AND CRAM SOME TEXTBOOKS KID.

  • you can't be australian. roos are pests. they are extremely overpopulated in

australia. they even out-number the people. they eat crops and induce dust storms....farmers are allowed to kill as many as they want, and it still doesnt put the tiniest dent in the population. farmers kill hundreds each day. whales and kangaroos are completely different, kangaroos are legal to hunt, because theres just way too many of them.

  • you're really a fking idiot!!! you can't be australian. roos are pests. they are extremely overpopulated in

australia. they even out-number the people. they eat crops and induce dust storms....farmers are allowed to kill as many as they want, and it still doesnt put the tiniest dent in the population. farmers kill hundreds each day,

  • The Aussie PM makes a racist comment about Indians watch: v=G8cClYBI6wg.

  • Good, we need more racist prime ministers.

On second thought, fuck that. The word "racism"

is the most over used and least understood word in the english language. Especially by "ethnic minorities" who call everything they don't like or agree with, racist.

I'd personally buy every illegal immigrating, welfare claiming, asylum seeking boat faring bastard a dictionary if they would promise to read it on their way back to wherever the fuck they came from. Multi-culturalism DOES NOT WORK. GTFO

  • Did you even watch the video?

  • Yes I did, why do you ask?

Oh, and don't post stupid comments on my profile ya fuckin weirdo.

  • You need people like me!

So you can point your fingers and say There's the bad guy!

  • Oh you mean your video. Yes I watched that too, and it was only good in the sense that you are taking the piss out of people who are looking for videos on the "indian bashing pandemic" so I guess I owe you a high five there. But please, try to be more original :P

  • @inviktus1983

    "indian bashing pandemic"

A pandemic, needs to be something that happens a lot, as opposed to NEVER.

Why are you so keen to make Australians hate you?

  • You obviously misunderstand the context of what I was saying. I used those words sarcastically.

    I am Australian, fool.

  • @inviktus1983

    Don't call me a fool.

Look at all the outright hypocritical, and dumbfounding propaganda used against Australia, and you can see that what you suggest is obviously sarcastic, is perfectly normal for the guys playing the race card. They are serious when they talk like that.

I made an assumption. I was wrong, but I am not a fool.

  • Fair enough.. Although if you take the context of my words into account, I think it is pretty obvious I wasn't using them to advocate the Indians position on this non-issue.

BTW there is no such thing as "reverse racism".

Racism can be (and is) perpetrated equally by all races.

"reverse racism" is a redundant/false term.

Sadly it has become common belief that 'racism' refers to the evil things Caucasian races do to all others.

I was once called a "racist white cunt" by an aboriginal. lol.

  • Agreed, "Reverse-racism", is a description of hypocrisy to me.

  • people 'playing the race card' are using that for an excuse because they're lazy.

  • people play the race card, because the Aussies only complain against the Japanese, when among the IWC, Japanese harvest of Whales for "research purposes" are far less than those accepted in Denmark, USA, and other "white" countries.

Furthermore, while increasing the whaling allowances for these countries, the Japanese whaling industry is still banned, and not going to allow the Japanese to increase their allowances. How would the Japanese feel about that?

  • Sorry about the video, seemed like a good idea at the time. I thought you were having a go at me or something so sorry about the comments, whatever they said...?

But yeah the Indian pandemic bashings are a myth. Hundreds of attacks on all types of people all year in Melbourne then one Indian guy gets burnt and its like were a nation of multicolored skinheads. The Indians are making it up... What are you meant to do, wait for a non Indian taxi driver before you commit an armed robbery in a cab?

  • Yeah exactly. Sensationalist media bullshit.

The profile comment wasn't really stupid, but profile comments just irritate me for some reason :P

Nah I wasn't having a go at you, it was more an excuse to voice my opinion on this current wave of anti Australia propaganda bullshit.

    Peace.

  • @inviktus1983

Multiculturalism does work, but only when the people who come to make a better life appreciate the people who created the society, and are capable of contributing something, rather than looking for ways to advantage of the system to get an easy ride..

  • The provisions you set out for the success of multiculturalism are unrealistic.

The people that come here never appreciate the people who created our society, or those living within it. Instead they claim almost every aspect of it is offensive to them, and demand we change our ways to suit their sensibilities and religions, build them places of worship, and cater to their way of life, while our own is eroded by political correctness and 'sensitivity' for these immigrants. Fuck them. Go home.

  • Here, here with regards to political correctness. It is just a stupid method of promoting double standards that encourage reverse-racism.

After WWII Australia took a lot of migrants that were keen to build a good life for themselves. They were good.

Now we get refugees from wars, where the refugees deserved what they got, or were the aggressors. They are not good.

    Some migrants should be stopped.

Cultures collide, and people have to be able to speak their minds, without being branded racist.

  • agreed!

  • LOLOLOL

if aussies really care bout animals they'd be vegans.

  • You are a retard.

We are fine with eating animals that farmers breed for that very purpose.

We aren't eating an intelligent and beautiful species into extinction.

  • wow all ur vegans crap is getting very annoying. its natural for people to eat animals. there is absolutely nothing wrong with killing/eating animals. if we didn't do it another species would. its nature-its normal. and we need the protein. i'm against animal abuse and all that as much as the next guy... but being vegetarian doesn't do anything to help. the majority of the population will always be normal, not vegetarian, and the demand would raise anyways,so congradulations, u've wasted ur life

  • @20012607

"getting annoying? " u whinge like a bitch, Dont read the comments if u cant take them.

back in the old days people thought burning heretics were acceptable. What most people do does not warrant it to be the right thing to do.

Do you know that farming produces polluted water and like a third of total greenhouse gases output each year?

congradulations, ur selfish deeds just ruined the planet for future generations

  • Does Australia export whale meat ?

  • No you retard, the word is satire, look it up.

  • @inviktus1983

don't call yonaoimete a retard, they were just asking a question.

  • People seem to be taking this so seriously, but this isnt even a real ad. They made it for the Gruen Transfer, which is a show on adverts, for a segment where they try to sell the un-sellable. Its not real, we dont eat whale meat

  • Comment removed

  • im so hungry

  • The world has several kinds of farm animals that can be bred and grown. We have to stop taking straight from the wild. Human population is too large. I believe only a few kinds of fish and crab should be caught and in limited numbers. We need to leave wild animals to sustain their own numbers except in over population instances.

  • yummy

    where can i get some?

  • fucking japs research program is simply an excuse to hunt and kill the endangered species and jap is in violation of a generally accepted ban on whale hunting.

  • @MrBibicon Blow it out yer ass you fucking fruit

  • MrBibicon says:

"shit no one cares about shit no one cares about shit no one cares about"

  • one whale equal to how many cows?

  • nice propaganda!

  • when was ww2, i not old enough to care about it. I care about whats happening now, and dont; worry enough people live in glasshouses so everyone should just shut up.

  • You're right out of the 'shallow end' of the gene pool, aren't you? What a moron - thank god you're a nobody and can do no actual harm to anyone! lol

  • gene pool, Australia you're funny.

  • Attacking your enemy through the media is harmful to the Japanese.

  • Those who forget their history are bound to be conquered by those that don't.

  • Yes, some people only think about today and what little they can gain for themselves.

  • Yea u too

  • Enjoy the majesty of the whales while you can, that's all I can say.

  • I enjoy their majesty at every meal. *smacks lips*. Ah I'm just kiddin, haven't tried whale yet. Why can't we all just agree to harvest whales sustainably? It's the obviously correct answer. The middle ground that just makes sense. I'm very tired of the racism and extremes that people go to when this subject is debated.

  • In Norway, we only harvest the over-abundant Minke whale. They are not endangered nor threatened. In fact, it is man that has allowed populations to grow out of control and harvesting helps keeps their numbers sustainable. We never harvest more than half the annual quota either.

Anyway, Fresh whale tastes great. It is tasty and goes great with chips, salad and an ice cold beer.

Save the Whale.... for me !! Yummy !!

  • Why can't Japan make sense, like Norway?

  • Well, it seems like Japan takes all and any species of whale, including blue whales, so i guess it will never make sense for japan to conduct whaling.

    What do you think ??

Here in norway it is all about being sensible and nice.

    Save the whale....for me ! yummy !

  • There can't be an accepted whaling limit until a limit has been set.

The body in charge is broken.

The middle ground is the middle of two extremes.

Sustainable, is a word that stands as a precedent. The facts don't usually agree with the ones who are making the money from the catch.

Whales are still a free resource.

Harvesting whales is BANNED by the IWC and whales are protected by law.

  • I don't know whether you are agreeing with me or not. Are you saying you believe in a complete ban or not? The IWC clearly believes that there should not be a complete ban, seeing how this is right from their own website.

"The purpose of the Convention is to provide for the proper conservation of whale stocks and thus make possible the orderly development of the whaling industry."

They believe in regulation, not a complete ban, which is what I support.

  • Gruen is so good

  • What is a specific group of people died off, there would have been no American genocide or African slavery.

  • African slavery had been going on for 1000's of years and the Muslims were always the main participants. Americans were far less harsh than Africans themselves were.

The difference is that America is capable of saying sorry and making amends, but other countries, like yours, are not!

  • I never said it was Americans, you assumed, maybe feeling a bit guilty? I wonder if sorry will do for slaughtering 90% of the Amerindian population.

Anyways I don't know why people give a shit about these animals when there are so many messed up things happening to people everyday. Maybe stopping the war in Iraq would be a good start.

  • Can you stop the war in Iraq?

Whales number about 10% of what they used to before they faced extinction. That is why a ban was put in place. The numbers have not sufficiently recovered and it is doubtful they ever will. The risks are too great.

People care because the seas are being over fished and the risk to the survival of the human race is at stake.

It is important, but people simply assume the resource is permanent. It isn't.

  • I alone can't stop it, but if enough people oppose it then then it might happen. The money grubbing politicians and lobby groups may control the power, but the people control themselves.

I read in an article that the specific type of whale they are hunting aren't on the endangered list. I'm not against eating any type of animal, because if the "moral" implications. but I'm hunting a species till extinction. At the end of the day, i still think whaling can go on but under strict regulation.

  • Enforcing the current regulations has proved to be impossible. Trust doesn't cut it. The regulatory body would need to create sanctions. This suggests we need a world body to enforce the rules and such a body is a long way off existence, as nobody trusts anybody (for good reasons, no doubt).

Unfortunately the whales at risk are the ones that are worth big $, and they are suffering from environmental degradation and may never recover.

Iraq - oppose what specifically - war?

    Good luck with that.

  • It really depends how much responsibility the governments take themselves. Like Canada/US has put a quotas on salmon, the Japanese can do the same. Unless you believe Japan can't be trusted while Cnd/US can.

And Iraq, yep it's pretty hopeless. That air polluting oil is a curse.

  • Japans fisheries department is very corrupt, so I'd have to say no. Not yet.

The issue that Japan has with Australia is that it is the people of Australia that object to whaling, and not necessarily the government. Japan refuses to be pushed around by the individual opinions of people in our small country.

Also, this has far stretching implications in the case of sea biodiversity. It may seem that a victory over whales spells trouble for fishing in general.
