  • Awesome !!!

  • why if you want a filmic?look do you not just buy a s16mm cinema camera and learn how to really be a cinematographer?all these digital cameras do is make you a push button artist. The real learning experiance is knowing how to shoot manually wioth a film camera. But i guess thats what the new tech does is make you a button pusher, and let the camera make your vdeo for you,,,not very sporting indeed...,

  • @bathwaterfilms In this economy, it's much more affordable to shoot digital. I tried to buy a 16mm on eBay, but the seller backed out. I'm glad he did, because processing all that footage would have depleted my bank account. Besides, pushing buttons doesn't equate to a good looking film. There is sooooooo much more in it than pressing a record button. If it were that easy, everyone with a high def camcorder would be in the cinematographers guild! :)

  • @denekes truth, film is expensive and fragile even though it looks amazing, you can get a look close to film with digital these days. and digital is not all pushing buttons, you still have to have good composition, good lighting, good control of focus (especially with a 35mm adapter), and above all the ability to tell a story effectively.

  • @bathwaterfilms You aren't bright at all. Uhm Last time i checked RED cameras are digital and oh wait a sec, the social network, the hobbit, and pirates of the caribbean were shot digital by the red cameras. Its not about film cameras, nor is it about what camera it is, the art comes in on how you use the camera.

    ;)

  • @bathwaterfilms digital only mean that the video is stored on electronic media, rather than film.

  • @bathwaterfilms i bet you do not use a shovel to dig a driveway, a bob cat does all the work for you, this also takes the true feel out of digging and saves alot of time, not very sporting id say... Im sure you also hunt for your food with your hands and wear skins instead of going to the supermarket? Digital cameras are easy and fantastic, like the records of the past (although im sure you still have an 8 track in your car) CD and DVD have replaced them. Just technology moving along old timer.

  • @bathwaterfilms Hahaha. Your "push button" theory could also be applied to say Editors who use the assistance of Final Cut Pro or Avid are not as good as those who do it the old fashion way on Analog/ Linear Deck to Deck Systems or even better yet splicing actual film! Technology advances art and does not replace it. There will always be great cinematographers who rise above the rest regardless of what format they are shooting on.

  • haha, the testing was pretty funny!

  • I just ordered the Letus35 with the Nikon Locking Mount for my DVX100A... which Nikon Lens would you suggest I get for it? Looking to stay under the 400$ mark if I can, and I'm going for the best DOF I can get for that price... Would really love your input... Sorry if I'm bugging you!

  • @TheLetteredWayfarer You actually want an array of lenses to start out with (24mm 50mm and 80mm would be my starting suggestion) Get all prime lenses and try to get all 1.8 lenses. with the Letus, you cannot shoot above a 5.6 aperture because you will start to see the ground glass. -- I usually suggest that beginners start with the 50mm prime lens. Good luck!

  • @denekes Thank you so much!

  • um question...

y pay that much for a 35mm adapter and the rods and all when u can just go get a freakin 7d for less money......?

  • @sortaAWSOMEish

While your comment is mathematically true, it is also dated. The 7D didn't exist when the Letus, Redrock, Brevis adaptors were first released. But I do agree with you -- in 2010, it is financially wise to get the 7D instead of the Letus. However, the Letus will give you a softer (some might say better) and more filmic look out of the camera

  • @denekes yea im thinking of gettin a camcorder (panasonic tm700k) and makeing a dof addapter. would u know anything about that?

  • @denekes People always forget the audio issue when they bring up DSLRs. I have yet to see a DSLR with XLR inputs, have you? And the fact that DSLRs record for like 10 to 15 minutes at a time, whereas you can let a camcorder run for hours. People need to relax on the blurry background issue. :)

    d

  • @dennisonearth a Zoom H4N and a clapperboard are your friends for DSLR audio... just think back to the film days. also, very rarely do I have to film more than 12 minutes at a time on a DSLR shoot (no one take on a narrative, hosted TV program, commercial, or music vid is more than that), the only time I have to do that is with documentary interviews and even then, usually my subjects/producers are cool with me stopping and restarting/re-slating every 12 mins.

  • @sortaAWSOMEish @sortaAWSOMEish The 7d is a great camera, but the depth of field and the film look of the letus cant be beat, the 7ds footage can compare, but its not as good. If your a beginner the 7d is better to deal with, but if your going for a professional look, the letus is where its at.

  • @VOBSkate2010 yea

  • @sortaAWSOMEish also when using dslr's such as the 7d the video looks weird when panning

  • @BlueMediaGroup yea the um "jelo effect" or "rolling shuter"

  • @sortaAWSOMEish yeah, so personally i wouldn't go for the 7d because i mainly shoot sports and action, so whatever works.

  • will this mount fit canon lens?

  • Sweet tutorial, boss. But find a better taste in music.

  • hey was up nice tutorial .i have a questio for you cant let me know if the Letus Extreme is compartible with new sony xr550v 240 gb thakns i hope you anwer mee okey thanks

  • you're going to kill obama?

  • Cool demonstration....one quesiton, did the Letus effect the balancing on your tripod, and what kind've tripod are you using, or would you suggest.? Thanks.

  • damn, that lens so expensive, i cant afford it

  • veja o video de mauricio torres - eu e voce muito lindooo...

  • Thanks for posting the video dude, awesome job. I also have the same camera and im looking at the letus, but have a tone of questions so if you can please contact me whenever you get a chance. ps. dont listen to the hatters.

  • @ANSstudio I would love to field a bunch of questions...start asking them and I'll start answering them....before you get too attached to the Letus, I just want you to know that I opted to rid myself of that "ancient" workflow and buy into the DSLR world. :) That said...ask away!

  • @denekes thanks for getting back to me so quick, i checked out a lot of your work and its all awesome bro keep it up, but back on topic, what DSLR are you talking about because i also have one: the nikon d500 that can record 720p video at 24frames with a 35mm lense but my problem with that is there is not many options and it compresses it to mpeg4 so its a pain to work with. i love the hvx200a and all the features but if there is a DSLR out there for around the letus price please let me know

  • @ANSstudio The Canon 7D and T2i are amazing and quite cheaper than the Letus....I'd completely sold on the Canon DSLR cameras! :)

  • @denekes thanks again for all your help bro and the video on those cameras from what i see on youtube are amazing! i was also looking at another canon and its the EOS 5d Mark II but its double the price of the 7d so my question is, is the 7d and t2i in video quality that drastically different that i shouldn't go with the T2i or should i just save up and go with the 7D. Thanks again Bro and i was just wondering where are you from?

  • one would expect that a man with such knowledge would know how to de-interlace a motherfucking video.

  • @alfredonski As a matter of a fact, I do...from your final cut pro browser window, right click on the timeline that needs corrected, choose "send to", select "Color". Once Color is open, go to the forth tab over. be sure that all your clips are highlighted in the timeline. From the effects bin, bring over the "deinterlace" (one word, not hyphenated) node and once you're happy with the look of your video, go to the render que and once that's done, send it back to Final Cut Pro to be compressed

  • @alfredonski he told you asshole lol!

  • @Johnbosveld1 dumb asses

  • I have an HVX200 and looking to be able to shoot things far away and need a lens kit to add onto this great camera. What would u recommend? Does this kit still mean that it would shoot HD?

  • It looks cool and all, but I can't see the difference really, maybe due to youtube quality. I can pretty much get the same look without the attachment and just use a few tweaks in post. I'm not convinced yet. Somebody wow me....

  • what does it do?

  • @skater4life1000

The Letus Extreme allow you to use 35mm lenses on video cameras -- an excellent side-advantage is that it also creates a slight "softness" and "grain" to better help simulate the look of film (not video).

  • @denekes oh, thanks cool. how much does it go for?

  • the last song is killed my ears

  • @bandersaleh -- HA HA! That is the Fisher Price "Little People" performing a Go- Go's song. I had to listen to that CD repeatedly on a 14 day road trip once!!!!

  • That looks great.

  • nice how much is it?

  • its awsome but ouch expensive !

  • Wow... I am a nikon dslr photographer... so glad to see we can still use our lens with the the new high end camcorders... I assume the Letus can work with Canon and Sony pro cams?

  • I believe that is true -- you just need to order the proper size filter lens ring adaptor and you should be good to go! :)

  • What camera where you recording this with?

  • This was shot in SD using the Panasonic DVX100

  • Stupid question (maybe)... can you add the follow focus to this setting

  • Yes, The Letus Extreme (with rod support) allows the use of a follow focus. Hint: as of 2008, Redrock was offering the best deals for follow focus and lens gears. I haven't priced these items out since then.

  • Jeez man, are you a pro?? this is like a 7 8,000 dollar set up. i'm just jealous

  • Nifty attachment. The DVX and HVX are the primary cameras that we use at my college. This looks like a good investment.

  • I would realy like to see this at normal speed so i can see exactly what you are doing. Do you connect the Letus directly into the filter threads of the Hvx?

  • Correct...the Letus Extreme screws directly onto the HVX's 82mm filter threads. From there, you focus the HVX onto the ground glass of the Letus. You want to Lock-off all camera zoom and focus settings from this point forward, using only the 35mm lenses.

  • 3:20 was a good clip, nice job

  • Loving them Groovie Ghoulies in the background!

  • Arent they great!? I miss 'em.

  • Yeah, but I saw Kepi last october and he played a lot of Ghoulies songs too, it was a blast!

  • which support rod package did you get in this setup? Did you get the Optimized Achromat as well?

  • The madness is you can get the same quality if not better with the VIXIA HF200 now without those stupid P2 cards :d

  • Ha ha! I get your point about the HD quality look, but the camcorders codec mpeg AVC will never compare to DVCPro HD. More so, the intangibles with P2 such as over & under cranking etc., etc are so necessary with filmmaking that the DVX should still be the camera of choice over camcorders (For filmmaking). The camcorders sharp & clean HD look is fantastic for weddings and corporate videography, so they do have their place. They are awesome in low light, unlike the HVX. Depends on the shoot

  • @GriffithFamilyVideos the new Sony is the way to go though as its P2 CARDLESS ;) with those cards you could buy a complete camcorder and it is the only HD one alloed by the Discovery Channel for HD

HVR-Z5E 1/3-inch 3 ClearVid CMOS Professional HDV Camcorder or the wird lookin' HVR-Z7E

  • is this just a depth of field thing i mean it still has to go through your camera fixed lends still unlike removable lenses? These blot on are quite expensive too surely better to save and get a camera with removable lenses?

  • Hello! True, if you can afford a high definition or film camera with removable lenses and a larger sensor (for video) that surely is the way to go! The Red products are a nice start. Make sure your computer can handle the workflow, though! ;)

  • what webcamera u using for this video?

  • This was shot with the Panasonic DVX100 MiniDV camera. :)

  • what exactly does the letus do?

  • Happy New Year! The Letus Extreme, Brevis, Red Rock, etc. are all different brands of lens adaptors. The purpose: to attach 35mm lenses to traditional video cameras. 35mm lenses offer a better range, but more importantly, videomakers now have the ability to get the desired Depth of Field they are looking for. Intentionally or not, the adaptors also soften the image and add a tiny amount of "grain" to an otherwise sharp video look. To sum it up, they can make proper codecs look more like film!

  • Thank you very much and merry christmas / happy new year! I'm so jealous of that setup!

  • If you are mainly shooting documentaries, I would definitely suggest the Panasonic GH1. It is a HD camera that can be extremely good for run-n-gun type shooting...it can be very inconspicuous...the SD cards are cheap and can record forever...field shooting is easie...it's good in low-light...and the price is right. It can also be used as a good cinematic camera and for controlled situations like music videos. Bottom line, It blows the HVX200 out of the water for that type of production.

  • funky adaptors

  • which letus is best suited for the DVX100?

  • I'm hoping that someone else can speak up and answer your question, but my instinct says that you'd want to buy the Letus Extreme Starter bundle. I always suggest a package that includes rods because the weight on the cameras filter threads is extremely heavy. Plus, you'll need rods for your pull focus mechanism.

  • The Letus Extreme, but the DVX doesn't have interchangeable lenses.

  • LET-US

    not

    LEET-US

  • Shooting all types of movies;

    - Action (Fast passed)

    - Horror (Able to change colour for mood)

    - Documentary

    -comercial

    Company/Brand preferred?

    None.

    Preferred Size/Weight?

Light camera 10 lb max.. Nules the camera is really worth the weight

I am not too sure as what else I would require. But, I would be better off having additional things on a camcorder then fewer as upgrades in the future might be possible. And having everything plus more would not require upgrades, or as much.

  • - NTSC

    - HD; 1080p or 720p minimum.

    - 24fps

    - 1.78:1 (16:9) & 1.85:1 & 2.35:1 If its programmed that's great. If not, lens purchase will be required.

    - 3CCD

    - Record on a format that will not require additional expensive accessories to transfer onto computer (XP). Preferred.

    - Good night recording

    - A Camera As Close To A Real 35mm Film Camera

*Selected few movies that are good, will be made on 35mm Film.*

  • Hello I hope you can help me. I am purchasing my first Professional Camcorder. And also need additional accessories such as lighting, I am trying to achieve the film look in HD.

My top budget for the camera is of 8.000 american dolars.

    I am not too sure as what I really need. Perhaps if you asked me some general questions as to what would be needed and so forth, I would say if I would need it or not. But, I do know some things that I do require;

  • great video ....

  • what kind of nikon lens do you have on? where can i buy a letus extreme bundle from? n does the bundle come with the lens or do I buy it separately? please help me with this info, am having problems with accessibility, i dont live in the States

  • I'm actually about to sell my Letus and my Nikon Lenses -- Ill finish shooting my feature film late September, then I will no longer need the Letus adaptor, nor will I need the lenses. Contact me further if you're interested.

  • do you still have that adaptor available? I am looking for one, I want a used one let me know

  • go to bhphotoDOT COM and typr letus. It costs between $1,300.00 to $8,000.00

  • can wireless mikes me hooked up to the cmera

  • Yes you can use a wireless mic with this camera. I have an Azden wireless and an Azden shotgun mic. Both sound great.

  • UPDATE: I just want to mention that the people at Letus Support are fast and efficient in their responses...they just saved me (and my project) hundreds of dollars. Thanks!!!!

If you're looking to buy between Red Rock, Letus, or Brevis -- CHOOSE LETUS!

  • agreed. just ordered the letus mini, and emailed them with a few inquiries. they emailed back within the day, and when i ordered, they informed me that they had sent it, and gave me all the details of the flight delivery time. they are an excellent company.

  • thanks for the review!

  • Unfortunately I have never used the JVC, so I would not be able to give an honest answer. It seems that if you get the proper step-rings, the Letus would attach just fine, however, you might have to get the Mini rather than the Extreme. I hope other people chime in on this question

  • i have JVC GZ-HD7, and i need a 35mm adapter, that goes with my Nikon lenses, whats you recommendations?

  • Thanks alot denekes for the review.

i read in Letus' official site that the maximum suggested shutter speed is 120, and that disappoints me abit.

Do you think shooting at 150 or 180 will make it so dark?

  • I just shot a feature using 180 shutter the majority of the time...however, when using HMI's, i had to switch to 1/48 I believe at 720 24p.

  • Thanks alot. That'd help me. =)

  • Happy Memorial Day Weekend, everybody! This weekend marks the start of my second FEATURE FILM with the HVX200 and Letus Extreme 35 adaptor. The first film is called "Trade In" if you would like to look it up on IMDB. The film that we're just starting is called "D*I*Y" (Do It Yourself). Google Directors Seat Productions if you want to see more about the film or to see the equipment we're using. VERY VERY EXCITING!!!! :)

  • Anyone know where I can get a tripod for the Sony PMW EX-1 XDCam?

  • so just because there is shallow focus means nothing.

the frame rate, motion blur, and light ratio of film can not be matched on digital.

  • Frame rate can't??? Why not?

  • you can't shoot 90, 100, 200 fps on digital sir.

  • yes you can, football games have this kind of digital cameras to show super slow motion

  • The Phantom HD can shoot over 1000fps. The Sony F23 has 13 stops of latitude, which is as much as pretty much any motion picture film stock up to circa. 2005. Not sure exactly what you mean by motion blur, but the Arri D20 has a mechanical shutter just like a film camera.

  • Awesome! getting me that too!

  • $1,199.00 hahahaha hold the press...

let me get the camera first

  • on the HVX can you record to HD on to the miniDV tape or do you have to use P2 cards

  • The tape deck is for MiniDV only... Standard Definition (480p or 480i)... you have to use P2 Card...

  • i am so close to getting my hvx200a, yeah im still starting out but something about being in all my film classes and hearing what we CAN do down the road makes me want the cam now. but after seeing this and other vids of its quality seems ill be saving up even more now...bittersweet

  • Man I am really leaning towards the letus for my HVX.....

  • without a doubt...the Letus blows the Red Rock and the Brevis out of the water!!! Those are the only three adaptors I've used.

  • Wow nice I was all set on getting the Redrock, but I found out about the letus and I watched a couple of videos including yours and damn I really like it. What made you choose this over the redrock.

  • I've used the Redrock, Brevis, & the Letus and the Letus is the winner, hands down, in terms of quality, look, ease of use, and on and on and on. the fact that the image is not inverted and you only lose 1/2 stop of light is the best feature, though.

  • Thanks!

  • I hope you enjoyed my demo reel above! Thanks for watching! Camera, lighting, grip, video & filmmaking equipment rental available in Tucson Arizona. • what type of tripod do you have

  • what does letus do ?

  • Letus is the MAIN TOOL for making video look like film. Frame rate and lighting, with the combination of lenses and camera movement, are the main elements for making footage look cinematic as opposed to video-like. So the Letus adds the ability to control your depth of focus via lenses.

  • What tripods would you recommend for the HVX202? I'm having trouble surprisingly finding anything online about it. Thanks

  • Nothing weaker than the Bogen 516 head. As long as you get a tripod that can hold 25 lbs, you'll be fine...

  • If you wish to use Nikon lenses, you'll need to order the Nikon mount adaptor at the same time you purchase the Letus. At that point, you will be limited to being able to use ONLY Nikon lenses unless you purchase an additional lens mount from Letus for a different lens manufacturer, such as Canon. Each additional mount is roughly $50.00.

Good (and affordable) lenses to start with are the Nikon 24mm, 50mm, 85mm, 135mm -- ALWAYS choose lenses that are 2.8 or faster!!! :)

  • Hopefully this doesn't sound rude, and I hope you don't mind me asking, but, how much is the whole set worth? The tri-pod, lens, cam, and letus?

    -E

  • New from B&H:

    Letus $1,700

    Lenses range from $100 - $500 each

    Camera $5,000

    P2 card $800

    Tripod $1,200

    Rode Mic $250

  • Thank you

  • HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE! if you would like to view some footage that was shot with the HVX, Letus, and Nikon lenses, type "Wash Panasonic" in You Tube's search window.

  • Omg, I also have Panasonic AG-HVX201AE PAL. This Nikon 35mm lense really changes look...film like... amazing ! Where can I buy this package ? How much costs it ? Do I need such a professional tripod ?

  • By the way, this device is actually pronounced "let-us" as in lettuce like the vegetable we all crave so much. In this video, however, I say "Lee-tis". It's just so difficult for me to call my investment after a vegetable. Sometimes on set I'll just get lazy and call it a Red Rock. Ha ha! Sorry Letus Brothers.

  • nice video, pretty much to the point.... can one "pull focus" on this adapter, and is it reliable ?- practical qn being.... does the light weight of the body result in the shaking of the camera in extreme tele - if used without a follow focus strap on ? can a follow focus be clamped on ?lollll owite i'll just shut up at this point !!

  • Yes, you pretty much HAVE to pull focus, especially when using a longer lens. anything longer than the 50mm lens pretty much requires a focus puller. I suggest using Red Rocks focus assist if you are on a tight budget.

  • Appreciate the reply Denekes. Thanx

  • Oh yeah... last week, our HVX & Letus took a tumble on a concrete floor -- we had to replace it with a Brevis for the following 2-days and man, the two adaptors don't even compare. Edge-to-edge sharpness. Inverted image. Vignetting were all issues with the Brevis. I'll be accepting sympathy cards for the fallen Letus and HVX until June.

  • Speaking purely about the Letus rod system... If I knew that there was a Rod System2 out, I would've done that instead. I find the one I bought (the same as in this video) clunky, difficult to modify thanks to the need for allen wrenches and hard to balance thanks to the risers. The good news is once you're setup, you really don't need to change much. The new rod system is tooless and has a different setup so that the camera can ride lower, thanks to a new "L riser". How do you feel about these?

  • the picture looks awesome. sick camera too.

  • wow this is awesome

im at film school and i could really use one of these, but i cant afford one...yet :D

  • whoah.. looks like a weapon

  • It is a weapon -- it's all part of a filmmakers arsenal!

  • AWESOME! i want one too! but i cant afford it -_-

  • is that the 30cm or 45cm rod? thats with the extra 15cm.

  • shawn of the dead??

    haha jk

  • Dude do you think any ro support system would work?

  • I believe the measurement you need is 15mm and that is pretty standard. So in my opinion, I think I would guess YES, any semi-professional name-brand rod support system should work. The easiest way toi find out is to ask Aaron at Letus via the "TICKET" system.

  • thanks man!

  • Hi again. I have a letus35fe and the thing is i see a piece of glass inside it that moves about like as if glued to anything is this normal or am i screwed? its rectangle in shape and it seem to be moving aboutwhen i turn the letus upside down. help am i screwed?

  • thank you so much for this. no video like it of its kind. I loved this. can i ask why you bought the letus in the first place?

  • very very very cool thankyou for providing this vid!

  • Hi. can i ask you the relationship of the focal lengths of the lenses with the type shots that you want? Thnks

  • Simply put and very basically stated, think of your 24mm as your establishing shot -- 50mm as your Medium shot -- 85mm as your closeup -- 135mm as your extreme closeup.

I hope this answers your question!

  • is this available to buy i wanna get this for my hvx. Screw the redrock.

  • nah redrock look better

  • hi, i want to buy 35 mm lens adapter, i have hvx200a, should i go with letus extreme with nikon or redrock micro with nikon..

  • I have used both and I strongly suggest Letus for many reasons, but these are my top 3 reasons: Only 1/2 stop light loss. Correct image orientation (not flipped image!). Faster setup and less little parts. No vignetting. Oops...that's 4 reasons.

  • no vignetting only when you use the panasonic hvx200 or sony ex1 is there a way of avoiding vignetting with other cams like say canon hv30 or XH A1

  • The quick answer is "yes": It really depends on how much you're willing to zoom in on the ground glass element while doing your back focus. The more zoomed in you are, the less chances of vignetting you'll have. The problem then is that you'll have a tougher time obtaining your wide-angle shots.

  • EXAMPLE: If you're using a 24mm lens for your establishing shot and your camcorder is zoomed in close to the ground glass element, your 24mm lens (84 degree angle of view) now becomes something closer to a 35mm lens with a 62 degree angle of view). ...but this is an extreme scenario -- you should never have to be zoomed that far in with your camcorder as a means to avoid vignetting.

  • i heard the camera has a fixed lense does that ruin the creative control of the camera person? i hope that makes sense....

  • The camera does not have a fixed lens -- it has a Leica Dicomar 13x Optical Zoom 4.2-55mm f/1.6 (35mm Still Film Equivalence 32.5-423 mm). You may be referring to the Letus 35mm adaptor, in which filmmakers generally use prime (fixed) lenses. However, if you have a fast enough zoom lens, it will work with the Letus Extreme and the Panasonic HVX200. In regards to "creative control", you tend to lose the run-and-gun style of shooting, however, you actually GAIN creative control with the Letus.

  • Oops -- I accidently "removed" your second question. The answer is yes, this setup is good enough to shoot a feature that is intended for DVD release. If your intention is theatrical (35mm film) release, you'll likely want to use the "Red One" for better blow-up. If course, that package is close to $60,000 with lenses, whereas the Letus/HVX200 kit is 1/6 of that.

  • ah ok yeah i love the camera and wanting to buy one sometime this year just nervous about what camera to buy the red camera is quite amazing. I want to buy one that can produce cinema quality using digital...basically im an independent filmmaker looking to make a feature 100 percent in nighttime with a possibilty of entering it into festivals.

  • denekes I read from a reliable source that the Pro DOF adapter look horrible on a TV,but look alright on youtube also that these adapters give Too much depth of field I dont know if this is non-sence but Im looking to purchase the LetusMini for my hv30 to attempt to make a feature to be put on dvd as a potential Indie release is it possible. How does the footage look on a normal television?Let me know:)

    -Charlie

  • Hmmm...That's an interesting comment?!?! Who was the "Reliable source"? The footage looks amazing on TVs -- and what is "too much DOF"??? That depends on the lens you use, it has nothing to do with the adaptor itself. things that might make footage look bad on TV might include: camera choice, compression, & resolution, but I don't think the DOF adaptor alone would be responsible for making your footage look horrible. I say, go for the mini and forget about your "reliable source".

  • "...these adapters give Too much depth of field..."

I use a Pentax 50mm/f1.2 lens on my DOF adapter. Focusing on something ~10 feet away with the lens open to f1.2 the depth of field is EXTREMELY shallow under this scenario. What is your idea of too much depth of field?

  • Why do you use f1.2 if you want less DOF?? You should rather go for a f2.8 or f8 maybe.. Lower the number, the more DOF you'll get..

  • "Why do you use f1.2 if you want less DOF??"

Are you saying f1.2 gives you more DOF than f8 or f64(lol)? At f1.2 on this lens the aperture is wide open! At f8 the aperture is stopped down.

So, if we agree that f1.2 is a "lower f number" than f2.8 or f8 then you have your DOF logic backwards. I guess the new "digital generation" doesn't have DOF scales on their lenses anymore; otherwise, you'd see it right there on the lens DOF scale that lens use to come with.

  • hahah sorry, I got my DOF logic backwards. Haven't heard about DOF scales, but Im very aware about the f. scale. I shoot video digital and photo in both digital and analog.

  • If you have a manual focus 35mm lens, there is a DOF scale on it. Set the focus to, say, 10 feet on the lens barrel. Then look where the aperture marks line up with for near and far DOF given in both Feet and Meters on the lens.

In the new digital world, the basic photo skills of being able to manually light meter a scene and understanding aperture/DOF is being lost. Photography is boiling down to just composition and over-exaggerated, digitally painted scenes in graphics editors.

  • Impressive. You make a good case for the Letus Extreme as far as ease of use and film-like quality from the adapter footage. The adapter footage out of the box was notably different than the setup footage with regard to the texture, depth, bokeh. Nice all around. Thanks for the demo.

  • MY favorite camcorder ! I had never heard about that lens. AMAZING ! It really changes the deep of field BIG TIME ! Do you lose any f stop ? How much is it ? I like how the black level stands out too...Great footage. Too bad you picked that cheap bogen tripod. Their legs are ok but their 501 and 503 heads are really bad . Peace

  • That's the 516 Bogen head.

  • How's that 516 working for you after you got the adapter? I just got my kit in the mail 2 days ago, and my setup weighs a TON now.

  • Yeah, it's heavy...especially if you add a monitor to your rig, but the 516 is absolutely necessary if you're comparing it to the 503 head. Love it!

  • wow this is an amazing lens i have seen the results and its so cool, enjoy it =]

  • You rock!

  • PS -- The test footage using the Letus and lens is at the end of this video...the setup process was shot with the Panasonic DVX100.
