How long will it take for Schon/Cain to realize that no one can replace Perry? Arnel Pineda is a very talented singer and performer, but I have to believe he's there because of his Perryesque voice and Filipino heritage. I realize that unlike bands such as Boston and Foreigner, Perry wasn't their original lead singer, but he was unarguably a major factor in their late-70's to mid-80's success.

Augeri and Soto didn't suck, Augeri lost his voice and Soto didn't sound enough like Perry, so he was fired after a year. I should've used the future tense in referring to the band being swarmed by Asians. Also, I never said that he was only chosen because of his heritage, but it did play a part in him being picked. You do realize that nearly all of the original fan base left when Perry became the sole lead singer and the band shifted in musical direction, right?

That's what people said about Journey reuniting the first time and we all know what happened with that. When the vast majority of Journey fans think of the band, Perry is who immediately comes to mind, even before Schon. In order to move in a different direction, Journey should've hired a singer who didn't sound like or try to sound like Perry. There are times the the band sounds like Arnel's old tribute group, the Zoo, at times.

You misintrepreted my comment and btw, Herbie Herbert founded the band. Schon was the first member that he recruited, he was the person who the band was built around. It was also Herbie who discovered Perry and hired him after hearing a demo of him singing with his band, the Alien Project. I'm aware that the songs were created with a tenor in mind, but to say that any tenor would sound like Perry singing those songs is an idiotic claim to make. Get your facts straight before you post.

Actually, if you do your reseach, they did consider Jeremy H. from a tribute band from Virginia. But he sounded TOO much like Steve Perry that he was scraped. Arnel could sound like Steve and many other singers. It's because of this versatility that he is not only a good front man but also can carry himself and the band forward after he is more established in the US. You rock Arnel and best of luck to him.

I also read that Cain called Jeremy telling him "welcome to Journey". That was after the auditions. At this time Schon was trawling youtube and discovered Pineda. Jeremy received communication that there was nothing firm about the offer. Immediately after Pineda's audition he was hired.
