Aesthetics rules the behaviour of mankind. We reflect, in our actions, the beauty we are able to sense. We'll (re?)learn that someday. The occult-oriented, anesthetic aural stimuli we now get is turning us into robots. Our imaginative energy is being drained out of us.
Many years ago my elderly guitar teacher decided to abandon guitar teaching, he said music was becoming trash and it was what most people liked to learn, trash. He said he would keep the good part of music only to himself...lonely, but satisfied. Hearing this song i can exactly understand what he was saying... Lonely, but satisfied, not giving a fuck to anything but his music.
God... listen to this song stoned. It's so serene, ethereal... Iike I'm floating over the sea, letting the currents take me to wherever it may go. For life is a mystery, through the initiation of acknowledging one's own setience. To the end of one's own senescence, we grow wondering where we are set off to, but life itself is a enigmatic endeavor. Forever unknown.
I lay prostrate before each video and Sergio destroys me and then rebuilds me anew--everytime different. This is music at depths which annihilate every preconception one has....
Sergio! Very wonderful experimentation in harmony and rhythm. Very moving and engaging. Anita must be a very special person. I only hope it isn't too forward for me to suggest an ending that deconstructs the progression, and goes back to the staccato introduction... it would do the piece justice, and not the very simple "explosion" ending it has now.
I have to say I am a bit disappointed, I've been your fan for a long time now and I bought Blu, I still have to go back to this video because it simply beautiful, perfect studio version doesn't appeal to me as much, maybe we can get a more 'live' style cd then?
How, in one's brain, would a person be able to come up with something this pretty? It has to be witch craft! I keep coming back to this one song! Witch Craft I tells ya!!!
32 obedient sissies who obeyed their mom and had to be different at all the phases of life clicked Dislike here.
Or probably they wanted to hear updates about how the world coming to an end, got here by mistake and in that frame of mind the awesome music just didnt make sense
no offense...i LOVE almost all artist and their music on candyrat, but this guy is just a lil bit boring...just looping some things that lasts too long, no real changing or movement...doesnt sound bad at all, but yet still boring after a few minutes, his other vids too
@Tetragrammaton8TV The only thing funny about your comment is that what he is doing is called building. Like one of the top comments I have seen, "It's like a red carpet opening for the ending of the song." Not to mention we could go into the chord structure of the things he is doing, or the phrasing in some of his songs, which tends to get a little off the wall. He is a complex artist. Not as showy as some of the other candyRAT artist, but he is certainly well placed among them. <3 :)
@Mischthief i´d only placed my point of view to this guy. hes good and the isnt that bad at all, but MY preferences are more for the delicate fingerstyle guys. nichloas barron is....hm...i love his fuckin cool attitude, but his songs are as well a bit "boring" for me...i love simple music too, but not this.
A good guitarist that should stay away from loop methods etc. Doesn't suit acoustic guitars. Play with some like minded folk who actually play another instrument . This sounds shit.
"Hey friend, could you quickly change the strings on my guitar? you know how, right?" "Yeah sure, it'll take me a minute tho... Oh wait... 12 strings!"
@JahKewn If he's trying to achieve a sound straight from his pickup, then the natural acoustic sound is unneeded and also could cause feedback, it just helps to isolate the sounds so the pickup can isolate the different frequencies better.
@bazdesh I figured out that it's actually D-A-D-G-A-D (I already did the song a couple of times at home now) just tuned way lower, I believe that on the album he tunes it down to a C but in this video you might be correct that it's down to an A#! But thanks anyway :)
@K1LL14N It's just interesting that with such low tuned strings they are playable.. I have a set of .13 - .56 (the "heaviest" I can get) on my acoustic and the strings are still wobbly and they don't stay in tune at all..
@bazdesh I know that Leo Kottke had a special guage of strings for his 12 string because most of the time he played in lower tunings.. Maybe Sergio has the same..
It is not all intro, he's putting together the left track and makes it sound like two guitars, note the tape marks on the top and the many places it has been
This may be rather simple, this may be loop pedal heaven, this may be too long, but if this guy wanted he could play this right in front of you. This has always been the defining factor to a musician for me, and I bet it would be awe inspiring. That and the fact that this tells a beautiful story rather than being on the cutting edge of speed or technique are the factors that should be apreciated.
...weather this song "leaves you cold" or warms your heart, at least it makes you FEEL SOMETHING. To me, Sergio is a success because he can invoke emotions.
any time you use a looping or doubling device you will always end up leaving a big ? at the end. alot of building, alot of power, then you need to seemlessly lead into something else... or you get hate from the youtube children. "It's not like what I'm used to QQ BOO HOO!" STFU!
Thanks for deciding for all of humanity what they should like, and failing that, dictating what may be discussed... culminating in mocking anybody with a dissenting view. Funny that you would call others 'children', when it is you acting like a petulant child
@MasonDixonPhoto A WILD TROLL! I saw you trolling so I put out a line and here you are.... trolling like a little bitch. I hope you got that warm fuzzy feeling as you typed every little angry letter on your keyboard.
@MasonDixonPhoto No disrespect. To reiterate, If someone is not able to see the beauty of the song, they need to stop watching it, it is the viewer's choice. I have this album, I love this music. I don't wish to govern the actions of anyone, you assume this. I call it "I say I don't, therefore you think I say you must-itus." I like this, I did not say YOU didn't or do. If you did not consider yourself a "QQ'er" why reply? why say anything at all? You need to rethink what you did 'cuz u mad.
@MasonDixonPhoto I don't understand how anyone can call this anticlimatic. :O I'm not so keen on some of Serigio's stuff but for me this song and Dragonfly especially are amazing!
While I recognize the innate talent and skillful technique he employs, the music of Sergio Altamura always leaves me cold, because each song builds inexorably towards a crescendo that never arrives. In the end, the music is anticlimactic, and instead of leaving me wanting more, I feel I have wasted the time I have already spent.
Clearly I'm in the minority. The song has 513 likes and only 21 dislikes, and the comments seem to be mostly favorable. So I guess he should keep on as he's going! ;)
@MasonDixonPhoto I thinks it's more about the journey than the destination with Sergio. I'm not sure how anyone can call this a waste of time and also claim to recognize his innate talent.
@TalonTSI95 One can objectively recognize talent without subjectively appreciating the final product. I recognize Michael Jackson was talented, but that did not make me want to listen to, or purchase the album "Bad".
@MasonDixonPhoto Im not saying that anyone has to like it. I'm merely suggesting that if the lack of closure ruins the experience for you, then perhaps you're missing the point.
My comment was my personal opinion, not an attack on the musician or his fans... so your personalizing this is inappropriate. I am entitled to dislike something without you insinuating that is some fault or limitation on my part. I have a wide range of musical interests, I am quite capable of grasping subtleties of melody and phrasing, and you have NO IDEA what makes me tick.
@MasonDixonPhoto man, im a great fan of altamura's music, but i really respected your opinion there, you realize that hes doing a great job, but its just not of your taste, i see few like around here nowadays, so keep that way!!
@vicktorium Thank you for recognizing one can express anl opinion without it being an attack on those who have different opinions.
It seems this site has been overrun with conformists, who are so threatened by any dissenting views, no matter how respectfully expressed, they feel compelled to launch into personal attacks, in an effort to silence any competing ideas, and to beat others down so they feel taller by comparison. The really pathetic part is that these folks think they're enlightened!
It's funny how some people think they're all that just because they're good at being jerks...Feeding their self-pride through conflicts and arguments which they inevitably try to win in order to quench some sort of self-preserving of urge of not being wrong... Well, atleast there's this incredible music to put people in a good mood! Mr. Altamura truly has an incredible talent! May he continue with his music!
at the beginning i thought "meh" but at the end i was like "zomfgwtfbbq" ("awesome")

@MasonDixonPhoto I have to ask, how can you think this is anti-climactic? I think it did end abruptly, but it definitely felt climactic to me.
