  • Could have been better with a better cast and in spanish... Their english really suks and i especially HATE JOHN LEGUIZAMO (noob actor). Other than tat the movie is good coz of the story.

  • If it was in Spanish, it would not have audience. can't you see that?

Countries that use the English language, don't accept subtitles.

  • The movie was good I wish it was in spanish. The soundtrack was great, the three songs the Shakira wrote very beautiful and romantic. And I'm very happy that the movie wasn't make in Mexico or Brazil.

  • half of the cast is Brazilian...what's wrong with it being made here?

  • oh I didn't mean to sound bad,I was just happy that finally they made a movie in Colombia after 50 years. And I know is a mix actors and the extras from different countries.

  • it's ok.

I just seen the movie on TV.

Have never seen it and I liked it very much.

  • is beautiful movie and the book is amazing I think is better than the movie in my opinion. I'm glad people like it.

  • Yeah, books are always better than the movies they make. Specialy this one, whose author is Gabriel Garcia Marques. He is one of the best Latin authors...his books are amazing.

  • yeh i totally agree the movie had beautiful cinametography and scenes, the acting was rubish the special old age effects were really poor!! the characters chosen did not fit the characters the audience are lead to believe in the book!

The story is beautifu though and thats what is most important and kept me watching!

  • viva Colombia y viva Gabriel Garcia Marquez!

  • I thought the movie was awful. Really a pale version of the book. I was really disappointed. The fact that they spoke english was one of the minor problems. The acting was disastrous, just look at John Leguizamo... it seemed like he could'nt decide between speaking english or spanglish. He should have quit at the peak of his carreer wich wprobably was "Moulin Rouge". Get of the stage!

  • the best i have ever seen.

  • this movie sucked, it was a blasphemy to the book

  • blah blah blah old news that movies are ever never like the book.

  • Lots of written attacks from both sides, but lets see the fact: how much $ has being made so far from the movie in sails at present?

  • Didn't it open in Brazil first? I read that somewhere. Hey you know what is a trip? When they do those old bible movies about like Noah and those days and they all have British accents! That is so funny!

  • Does anyone know what it cost to make? I heard it went up millions to move the set to Colombia.

  • they were going to do it in brazil anyway... so the cost's irrelevant

  • Rule#1,Never make a movie from a good Novel, Rule#2, Never make a movie from a good NOVEL, Rule#3, NEVER make a movie from a Good NOVEL and NEVER, EVER MAKE A MOVIE FROM A great NOVEL, Ever! It NEVER, EVER, EVER is as good!

  • Did you think for a minute a movie could be as good as the book? No one should expect this to be true, it just never can happen. Not one novel I read that a movie was made comes close! The last disaster was Juana la Loca movie from The Last Queen: A Novel of Juana La Loca. Impossible for a novel be as good.

  • you read the reviews in US and EU? most of the professionals are giving a 2 or a 2.5 out of 5:mediocre so not everything is gold, and I agree with them after seen the movie.

  • Roger Ebert the best known Movie Critic said it clear the problem..."I'm wondering, as I started by saying, if what makes Garcia Marquez so great a writer is his work's insistence on being READ, not SEEN." Always the problem with novels made into movies, always.

  • Nothing is gold dude except gold! What is ur agenda man, u made ur channel on the 20th watched 2 vids posted anti-Cholera & anti usAmerica messages on all the Cholera videos...what is ur point? You don't like the movie then don't fuckin see it, ur trashing a whole country for a fuckin movie? This your anti-USA crusade?

  • To condemn one country one nation the USA your own must be perfect in every way! You also choose the wrong country as it has native and 300 Million other nations in it. Let no man speak of my country and that of my ancestors and I will not speak of yours! To God belongs all the earth and we are here but briefly to care for it.

  • greatest city ive ever been to...Best country ever....beautiful book, exelent movie, great script.

  • One of the most beautiful cities i have ever visit... you feel like you're in another time because the city is so historical.

  • WHY didn't anybody Spanish MAKE This movie? 20 yrs passes then when it's made it gets bitched about because its not in spanish! Another excuse to dish out hate and talk shit at least they spent the millions to make it.

  • They use to say how the internet would bring the world together, how globalization would be a good thing...Sad to read the comments from people around the world, divisions, prejudiced, name calling and hate.

  • Positive nice compliments for the Country and the People from the film makers. Why do people here pick on the POSITIVE comments said to pick the film makers apart, tear down the movie industry in hollywood and trash 300 Million people of USA.

  • Yeah I agree, I was very enthusiastic, but now after seen it is a disappointment. Pity because I like to support Colombian productions as they are awesome, but hollywood influence splash it with an excrement toilet...

  • I wasted my money in that movie tickect!

  • I just saw the movie, and is a pity of a movie; why Hollywood always impose there way as if worldwide and the only one? USpeople are use to not think otherwise as soon as they have to think...there brain burn, and they called movie "boring" or slow...

  • Looks like a another place on YT to spread hate for America- oh to be politically correct United States of America

  • Yes Mr. Barden we colombians are HARD WORKERS! We work with the HEART.

  • yeah, look at the chinese...u r right bgfran

  • that's such a stupid argument, let's just say we earthlings are hard workers and work with the heart. *rollseyes* not only people from one single nationality. don't buy that cheap cultural crap that colombian media tries to sell us.

  • Yeh of course there's hard-working passionate people everywhere but the world in general just sees us Colombians as drug dealers, kidnappers, poor or something else derogatory so it's showing a good side of Colombia that DOES exist what can't positive things be said as well as the bad???

  • I completely and totally agree. I'm the only Colombian at my school (half-colombian) and they're always talking about how colombians consume drugs, which is wrong, they just sell the drugs to the drug addicts in the US who keep demanding that shit. Colombia is a beautiful country that so many people take for granted (I should know). It's about time they made movies like this! And viva Catalina Sandino Moreno! (she is also Colombian and is in the movie)

  • I went to see this movie tonight. Unfortunatelly, I had read the book and of course this movie could not due justice to such a great work of literature.

  • thats what a lot of people are saying so now a lot of people will go buy the book!

  • It will, indeed, better in Espa~ol Colombiano with english subtitles as the story is based in Colombia and there spanish is the most remarkable of America!!!!

The colombian spanish is the most rich and terrific.

  • bueno.

  • um, i think you're a bit off.

the best spanish (the correct spanish) is the way spaniards speak it. because spanish is from spain. and therefore they have the best grammar. the best grasp of the language. it is the true art of the spanish language.

and i know you were talking about in the americas. but really, all countries on this side of the world have butchered the spanish language. it's a shame.

  • i sugest u should read what the Royal Spanish Academy says about it before you post stupidities here.

  • common people lets stop complaining about the language! lets appreciate the fact that now finally somebody discovered our magic piece of land ! ;) so if u guys decide to post a comment about the movie, please be critical and constructive ! its worth it. and have previous knowledge about the topic before criticizing this unbelievable work!

  • its the greatest book ive ever read !! i love my country COLOMBIA and i cannot be more excited about the fact that our garcia Marquez has done so many thing for us that is now putting us over the top ! showing how beaustiful out culture literature and talent! is such an amazing opportunity for us ! lets do it ! lets demostrate that our beautiful paradise is more than bad aspects ok????? this is the best book ive ever read! seriously is gonna be a blast!

    valentinita orgullosamente colombiana

  • I am a mexican fan of García Marquez, and I hope this movie could be a wonderful job... you should keep the original language of this great novel...eventhoug it was made in english for the film version it will always be a latinamerican love story!

  • "more like love in the time of dont bothera".

hehe guess where that quote is from

  • ummm?????

  • bensley5662...ur stupid

  • "we have to take her back to America" common moron USamerican. dude Colombia is AMERICA, you eamn u wanna take her back to US.

  • moron? most the world call the continent 'South America' and 'North America' even also Canada it's only Canada. South America is divided by many Countries, North America has in 'The United States Of *America*' but most say *America* for short name.

  • Shorter and correctly is US (moron), but mostly arrogance with the "America" for US only... no wonder traveling around the world with a US passport became a problem. For over 4centuries everybody was called Americans from Chile to Alaska. The Lady is in America and the moron wants to take her to US:)

  • this is awesome :D. I love how the actually filmed it in Colombia. Is like being home :D

  • ehh the movie should've been in Spanish...

  • Has no one Spanish or in South America ever made the movie before?

  • nopes...this is the first time(that I know've)

  • Be happy at least SOMEONE made the movie to bring Honor to the Story and Writer all over the world!

  • Im not sad...and I don't think NONE needs to bring honor to the story or writer all over the world(by making a movie about it). They allready have it*

  • I do believe the writer Gabriel García Márquez will now have a world wide new audience of people that do not read novels, did not attend college or are not familiar with Hispanic literature.

  • I agree.

  • for many in crowded cities, poor areas, with such a big country full of immigrants, but very many opportunities for excellent education exist in the free country if one wants, my brother attended Harvard there, one of the best.

  • "In a global context we are talking about a very small country and yet it has one of the biggest hearts of anywhere... any place I've ever been"-Benjamin Bratt

  • Bigger than spain or france though!

  • its the 26 biggest country in the world... its actually not that small

  • Wow... I never heard such a talented group of people saying so many good things about Colombia and Colombians... I am very happy!

  • beautifull book i read it 3 times and is really a masterpiece just like every Gabriel Garcia Marquez book.I cant wait to see the movie.I just want to say thank you for bring it it to the silver screen and cheers to the beautifull colombian people for leaving such good impression of the country to the whole crew that work so hard into making this movie.

    Gracias colombia tu eres hermosa.

  • I loved, loved, loved the book!! I really hope the movie does it justice...the previews look awesome. Cannot wait to see it. I am so excited to see all the characters come to life in this movie.

  • when i saw the trailer in the movie theatre.. it lookes like its my story... just when the part of when they where young.. im not old yet.. but i hope i dont have to wait that long

  • I truly am dying to watch this movie, I cannot WAIT!

  • wow so great :D can't wait to watch it!!

  • I can't wait...I can't wait...I can't wait.

  • Quiero ver la pelica ahora!!! Se ver que es una exelente pelicala!!!

  • Great to see that LOVE IN THE TIME OF CHOLERA being made into a film. This could really work, specially with such good actors.

ONE HUNDRED YEARS OF SOLITUDE is too complex for a film, but I wonder if anyone would have the courage to do at least one section of it. If so, I hope they do a better job than the disastrous ERENDIRA

  • shakira's favorite author, Gabriel garcia marquez had shakira record 2 original songs for this movie plus Pienso en ti, an original shakira composition. I cant wait for the soundtrack as well! i also think this book is a slow starter..but picks up and has become one of my fav books ever!

  • wow. people are ridiculous. seriously complaining that this movie is in english instead of spanish. BIG DEAL. it's a beautiful novel both in english and spanish. and it's amazing that it's now become a movie for many, many people who haven't come across the book to be able to enjoy and appreciate. who cares what language it's in. what matters is that this beautiful work of literature is being thrown out into the world.

    GET OVER IT.

  • Yes there is much hate these days but hate the politics not the everyday people/country.

Interesting though the comments with the most hate if you google their username you see they have issues.

  • meonglows you said 'people are ridiculous. seriously complaining that this movie is in english instead of spanish' But the movie is only an excuse to sling hate toward a country. A country of 300 million people that were lied to. People are not the Politics, Millions in USA hate the war too and are working to end it, but get no credit for standing up to their government.

  • i don't know what you misunderstood in my statement. or what you're trying to tell me exactly. i just wanted to say that people should appreciate that this book and amazing author are getting the chance to have a whole new audience to entrance. and not complain about who is doing it and how.

i'm not complaining about people specifically.. or any countries. or anything. just that it should be appreciated more.

  • Meong;this user is fond of matronising and patronising everybody that does not see the life his/her way. Look, spend 24/7 in utube, what son? or what spouse would stand that? LOL just ignore and have pity for that creature with lack of assurance.

  • I don't think you said anything but if you read the comments on 'Cholera' videos there is a lot of hateful trash talk about USA the president of the country, hurricane Katrina, USA people are stupid, greedy, all that stereotype slander. It does not fare to well since it is the agenda of radical extremist.

  • Well I'm American too and I get the generalization thing, and no I have not read most of the comments here. I write an opinion based on what I think not on other people's comments. See how I wrote "some of us" in my previous comment.

  • azul7: I am surprised with such a statement and you live in Boston USA? SURE! it COULD be made in Colombia but it was NOT in 25yrs. So no OTHER country can make the movie? Can Italy make it? You say -"How would USA like another country doing a movie about USA in Spanish?"

  • Hundreds of movies are made all over the world about USA in MANY languages! While in Europe I saw movies in Russian, Polish, German about USA.There are movies made Japanese,Italian, French about USAmerica. You live in Boston, right there you have FOREIGN Movies about USA play at Brattle Theatre Cambridge,Chlotrudis Society for Independent Film,West Newton Cinema and the Belmont World Film International films.

  • Be careful where you accuse because then motives appear. If this producer only wanted to 'make money' there are millions of stories to be told that would cost far less than the Millions he is spending on Cholera to be sure! The fact he moved the set to Colombia proves he lost millions than filming it on a Hollywood set! There ARE movies made about making money, this movie however is not one of them.

  • yeah, it's definitely not to make money... it's too cheesy for this era... hahaha anyway i'm gonna c it.

  • Actually Millions that read Márquez in colleges around the world may like to see it, and those that only watch movies and don't read novels too. Think out of a narrow view and get past the fact in 25 YRS no one in Colombia made this movie, now if Japan decides to make it, they are not obliged to make it in Colombian Spanish.

  • Agreed... I get where you're coming from but most of the people are bitching because the original book is in Spanish not English.. The point that I was trying to make is that some of us are not just bitching to "sling hate towards a country" like tlktn said... it's just respect for literature... He needs to get over himself and realize that when people critized something is not always bcus... "oh they hate us"

  • azul7: Have you read these comments? R U kidding!? This video is about a movie made from a novel right? Here are just some of the issues incorporated here: 1.The war in Iraq 2.a president named Bush 3.Hurricane Katrina 4.The 'money hungry' movie industry in USA 5.The low education of people in USA...shall I go on?? The irony is 300 MILLION people in 1 country from all over the world are not the president or government- but all 'USA' gets attacked.

  • I abbreviated United States of America as 'USAmerica' for the sake of space. If you read messages here people are bitchin about how to address Americans, America and its US America because of South America etc. My point was in limited allowed space to be clear its 'United States of America' I'm talking about. NO ONE calls it US America, it was for the sake of space.

  • azul7 you say- "They should of made it in Spanish because the movie is obviously going to attract more Spanish speaking viewers... Like Americans give a shit about the movie?"

There are 300,000,000 People in USA- 42.7 million Hispanic (not including the 3.9 million of Puerto Rico) This is a movie made by an English speaking(80%)country, not a Colombian Movie Co. No one is stopping Colombia from making the movie in original Colombian Spanish.

  • This film is going to be outstanding!! I cannot wait to see this on November 16th!! I will be first in line. Javier Bardem, John Leguizamo, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Ana Claudia Talancon, Shakira's music... this is going to be a testament to everything that is beautiful and magical about Latin culture. I think it's great that an English director made this film because he will have a fresh perspective and appreciation for what makes this story and this world so wonderful.

  • i always smile when people think usa is all 'yankee' and english only. usa is the only country in the world where people thousands (millions of hispanics) live. do people realize there are places in usa where people live that no english is spoken? visit china town!

  • wuasaby- You speak from ignorance. Do you live there? Ever work on a Production? I lived in Hollywood and saw that many artist from around the world work with producers there to create movies. Don't confuse the POLITICS of a Country with the Artist of it...Look at Cuba etc.

  • I'm not talking about the production, but the results.

I could give you a list with all the stereotypes that Hollywood hasn't only re-inforced but also CREATED.

  • Im almost done with the book and am waiting anxiously for the movie!

  • oooohhh!!! ijust love this book! i just cant wait for the movie! i heard that Shakira was doing the musical part,is that right?anyone knows?

  • yeah shakira recorded 3 songs. I can't wait to hear them!

  • You condemn the Yankees yet you try to be like us. You want the same type of culture and media, and everything else inbetween. Why do you think that there is a "Foreign Films" in the Oscar parade? We didn't screw up a wonderful piece of Spanish literature - we have brought this to the movie screen so that more people can enjoy it. Stop complaining about the ankees and take responsibility for your own literature and make your own movie, if you think you can.

  • arimaldo

Why all the nastiness on both sides?

I'm glad that this film is being made, in Cartagena, with good actors, by an American production company. But its REALLY elitist to say Colombians "try to be like us [Yankees]"

This is supposed to be about a good project, and good feelings between cultures. Stop sounding like Bush.

  • Hey what can I say....pero lamentable es asi. So are you going to continue with your verdict in that I am being biased or sounding too much like Bush?

  • arimaldo

I agree with your response to the people that were putting down the concept of an American company doing a film on a Marquez novel. CRONICAS was a brilliant film made in Ecuador by an American company with a Colombian actor (Leguizamo) & Ecuadorian director.

What I DON'T agree with is that ALL Latinos want to be like Gringos. Some do. Some absolutely do not!

  • "Mi gente"? Usted que cree anglosajona o qué? Are you some sort of anglo-wannabe 'coconut'?

  • "Mi gente"? Usted que cree anglosajona o qué? Are you some sort of anglo-wannabe 'coconut'?

  • hahaha you sound so funny suckin up to U.S.A. hahahahaah just like a well trained monkey.I s like yoou where never born in latinamerica hahhaha your roots an your culture is what makes you a person, rigth now you are what is left of a person after being trained like a monkey in the states!!! all hail tha migthy dollar!!!! hahahaha poor sucker!!!

  • shut up you Yankee Doodle, nobody want to be like you, a bunch of murdering bullies.let people say what they want to say, you are the one complaining and trying to impose.

  • are the millions of non speaking english orientals living in usa 'yankee' too?

  • bahh...I'm Colombian...I'm very happy for this movie ..English or Spanish..who cares..I just hope the movie is as good as the book was .. dont mind the ignorance of some ppl. the funny thing is that this guy insults English and his nickname is " incubus " .. lol

  • i can't wait into the movie comes out!!

  • If you want to know the caribbean, go to Cuba or Dominican republic

If you want to know the Pacific ocean, go to Chile

If you want to know the Andes, go to Ecuador

If you want to know the Amazonas, go to Brazil

If you want to know the pre-Columbian cultures, go to Mexico or Peru

.......But if you want to know all this in the same place go to COLOMBIA!

  • Yes, read the book first. It is a must even if you never want to see the film. The book is a masterpiece.

  • Definitely, you MUST read the book first!.

and wait for the movie of course.

  • I read the book and it is fascinating... but which book written by Marquez isn't? I can't wait to see the film... :)

  • When will be the premier??

  • They say November 16th 2007 :)

  • VOy a leer el libro primero

    I'll read the book first

  • good idea!!! you'll enjoy it, i did!
