This video looks like it was taken from a performance in Coventry Cathederal in the 1977. There was a lot of Ho Ha over the 'decency' of letting them perform in a place of worship. I was lucky enough to be there, it was fantastic!
I bought Ricochet new (on Vinyl) and would queue it up with Miles Davis In a Silent Way before dream time sleep - probably hundreds of nights - they are a part of my soul.
This is a landmark musical achievement created at the dawn of the golden age of electronic music. The tapestry of magical, mystical, complicated and overpowering melodies and sequences is timeless and underappreciatied.
As good as the music itself is, the video doesn't do it justice. Nobody wants to see reel tapes spinning during a live performance. I want to see the artists performing, their faces, their emotions and movements. I don't want to see 30 second shots of tapes rolling.

@rasarx1 I completely agree. Having that said, I am glad to see ANYTHING on TD on those early seventies. There were no video clips yet then...leave alone this kinda music. Ricochet is my n1 album ever (the one i could die on) ....and this clip, is cool for that sake.

The remaining Virgin albums are all good, in my opinion, except for Exit which is quite weak. Also check out their 'lost' 1973 album Green Desert. After their work for Virgin, they changed labels (Jive) and 'sound'. I much favour Poland, Underwater Sunlight, and Livemiles. Another label change (Private Music), yielded only 1 good album (my opinion again!), Optical Race. That's where TD and I part company, sadly. Check 'em out!
Thanks for the comprehensive reply dude! Will definately check them out. As for Green Desert (I did a little research), that album was released in '86 under "Jive" but as you said it was recorded in '73, but was re-mixed in '84. Is there two different versions, or was only one released?
@jobbo30 .If you haven't done it already, try "Logos live" recorded at the Dominion Theatre, London. Absolutely fan fucking tastic. the only problem I had was deciding which track was best. In my humble opinion, the only album better than this is Pink Floyd's Dark side of the Moon.Try Logos, and let me know what you think.
Today without Germans Bands like T.D and Kraftwerk there would be no Techno and trance. They were revolutionaries of the history of music and still today influence the music.
They have taken the music of Karl Heinz Stockhausen on and have developed
Tangerine Dream were never copying Pink Floyd or anyone else ,these guys were the TRUE innovators of electronic music though other groups get the credit ,but this group were experimenters always looking for sounds and compositions no human had ever heard ,saw them live in 1977 ,knew then I was listening to the music of the future .
See them live many times and yes they play real instruments and they are totally unique in the world of music !
Ever hear of Terry Riley and Steve Reich? These are Tangerine Dream's influences. Just because their influences aren't mainstream doesn't mean that they don't have influences. I doubt there is any artist that doesn't have influences. Even Vangelis has some influences, even though he claims not to.

The Pink Floyd influence is quite obvious, but they definitely had a style of their own that, as someone else mentioned, was way ahead of their time! The influence that Tangerine Dream, themselves, have had on hundreds of bands is written in history, and rightfully-so!
from my understanding, some of the original members left. Tangerine Dream is still making albums to this day, but the technology is more modern, but it is still great work. Some of the modern work is actually pretty good.
My goodness this takes me back. Saw them do this live in the early 70s. Their early material was superb. Great to see them all recreated here. many thanks.

Went last night: This is a FANTASTIC show! Edgar and his new team were magic. Look out for the new female drummer sensational! And dont leave too early, the best bits were played in the 3 encores. The only thing more I can say is that theyve recaptured their 70s/80s magic! A MUST SEE show!
I have never heard this by TD. This is going to be my music for driving my corvette at night through the empty hills past Jamestown, CA under the stars.........with the top off. Does it get any better than that?

Supply yourself with FORCE MAJEURE from TD. It's the very best in my opinion, with hard breaks and effects - rather monumental, but more melodious...good luck!
Zeit is a real trip, a good trip. Sometimes I think Schulze's instrumental arrangements are trying to seduce me (might sound strange but I'm not sure how else to describe it).
The structure and musical logic of old TD is much closer to contemporary electronica than Kraftwerk ever was, even if Kraftwerk got the techno "attitude" first.
This video looks like it was taken from a performance in Coventry Cathederal in the 1977. There was a lot of Ho Ha over the 'decency' of letting them perform in a place of worship. I was lucky enough to be there, it was fantastic!

Actually "head music" somehow sounds much more precise& apt than today's "techno" & other similar genres! Thanks for that info.! =)

If you liked this video and hardcore experimental
electronic fan you would like "TRIP TO UNKNOWN"
by sibervizyon.

those were the days, where the equipment set up time was equivalent to lighting up a few 100 candles. Literally. :-)

I just might have to get Ricochet after seeing this. I have Alpha Centauri, Zeit, Phaedra, and Rubycon already.

Supply yourself with FORCE MAJEURE from TD. It's the very best in my opinion, with hard breaks and effects - rather monumental, but more melodious...good luck!

Simply awesome...thank you pezzipez, ciao from Goryllo, a 49 y.o. guy, still today a big fan of TD.
Ciao from Italy. P.S. (nothing 'bout Atmosfear?)

Tangerine Dream's masterpiece.
Played this album so many times. Very moving to see this video.

This song is really well done, and I like the video clip aswell.
Tangerine Dream is the best Band out there in my opinion.

They're pretty good. "Zeit" is my all time favourite album, but for the most part I'm a Schulze fan.

Zeit is a real trip, a good trip. Sometimes I think Schulze's instrumental arrangements are trying to seduce me (might sound strange but I'm not sure how else to describe it).

I am, first and foremost, a Schulze fan. I keep going back to Tangerine Dream, but Schulze I never left. So yeah, I know what you mean.

This is far beyond awesome.

The structure and musical logic of old TD is much closer to contemporary electronica than Kraftwerk ever was, even if Kraftwerk got the techno "attitude" first.

Five years ago my 20 year old brother heard Ricochet playing on my hi-fi. "Is this by The orb" he asked?
When I told him it was made before he was born he was amazed!
