  • This video looks like it was taken from a performance in Coventry Cathederal in the 1977. There was a lot of Ho Ha over the 'decency' of letting them perform in a place of worship. I was lucky enough to be there, it was fantastic!

  • This is so beautiful I could die. Comparing this band to anybody is pointless--they are the best.

  • dope.

  • At 4:20 I had an orgasm! :D

  • excellent abstract masterpiece

  • Wasn;t this filmed at Coventry cathedral?

  • I bought Ricochet new (on Vinyl) and would queue it up with Miles Davis In a Silent Way before dream time sleep - probably hundreds of nights - they are a part of my soul.

I've never seen this video before. Thank you!

  • es rre loooco esto

  • @sweetlana6 y esta tremendoooo!

  • Great, thanks ...

  • once...when doing music was an art....

  • I saw them in Zoetermeer, unfort. bad (mix)soundquality, but great repertoire and proffesionel expression.

  • i could die to this

  • This is a landmark musical achievement created at the dawn of the golden age of electronic music. The tapestry of magical, mystical, complicated and overpowering melodies and sequences is timeless and underappreciatied.

As good as the music itself is, the video doesn't do it justice. Nobody wants to see reel tapes spinning during a live performance. I want to see the artists performing, their faces, their emotions and movements. I don't want to see 30 second shots of tapes rolling.

  • @rasarx1 I completely agree. Having that said, I am glad to see ANYTHING on TD on those early seventies. There were no video clips yet then...leave alone this kinda music. Ricochet is my n1 album ever (the one i could die on) ....and this clip, is cool for that sake.

  • beatifull

  • you know what this reminds me of? pink floyd circa 1970-1971

  • @Marty01Mcfly Pink Floyd were considered the fact of Germany

  • I love it it brings me back to my early days the time stands still when i play ricochet

  • The Remarkable music!

  • good looking female drummer & female flute-sax-synth player :)

  • Magical hypnotical tracks!

  • T.D. still rocks!

  • I think all albums up to "Le Parc" are marvellous.

  • Can anybody recommend any other work by Tangerine Dream please, loved this!

  • ...continuing from my reply to the first part of Ricochet...

The remaining Virgin albums are all good, in my opinion, except for Exit which is quite weak. Also check out their 'lost' 1973 album Green Desert. After their work for Virgin, they changed labels (Jive) and 'sound'. I much favour Poland, Underwater Sunlight, and Livemiles. Another label change (Private Music), yielded only 1 good album (my opinion again!), Optical Race. That's where TD and I part company, sadly. Check 'em out!

  • Thanks for the comprehensive reply dude! Will definately check them out. As for Green Desert (I did a little research), that album was released in '86 under "Jive" but as you said it was recorded in '73, but was re-mixed in '84. Is there two different versions, or was only one released?

  • @jobbo30 .If you haven't done it already, try "Logos live" recorded at the Dominion Theatre, London. Absolutely fan fucking tastic. the only problem I had was deciding which track was best. In my humble opinion, the only album better than this is Pink Floyd's Dark side of the Moon.Try Logos, and let me know what you think.

  • @HURUHRA

Very different music. Both albums are amazing, Logos is also one of my 7-8 favorites.

  • religija

  • in a modern texture: bach mixed with debussy & satie

  • Today without Germans Bands like T.D and Kraftwerk there would be no Techno and trance. They were revolutionaries of the history of music and still today influence the music.

They have taken the music of Karl Heinz Stockhausen on and have developed

  • very true, mate

I think albums from 70's are the greatest

    Rubycon

    Ricochet

    Stratosfear

    Encore

    Exit... just to name few

I'll be there in London 1st April! :]

  • Comment removed

  • want to see TD in concert 1st April in London? i have 1 ticket very near the stage :D

  • Ät shiu!

  • Que musica mas videosa

  • six hands olarcial

  • Tangerine Dream were never copying Pink Floyd or anyone else ,these guys were the TRUE innovators of electronic music though other groups get the credit ,but this group were experimenters always looking for sounds and compositions no human had ever heard ,saw them live in 1977 ,knew then I was listening to the music of the future .

See them live many times and yes they play real instruments and they are totally unique in the world of music !

  • Ever hear of Terry Riley and Steve Reich? These are Tangerine Dream's influences. Just because their influences aren't mainstream doesn't mean that they don't have influences. I doubt there is any artist that doesn't have influences. Even Vangelis has some influences, even though he claims not to.

  • Hi Deltaray3 ,Yep I totally agree with you that they may well have been influenced by other artists ,,don,t know these guys but will check them out !

But from that influence came something very ,very special and lets hope it continues !

  • deltaray3, thanks for the info, i will check it out.

One of the old ones I used to listen to was ISAO TOMITA, ever heard of him?

  • @Ultrasteve1969 I only heard of him in the past couple years. His stuff is nice too. The influence by Wendy Carlos was immediately obvious.

  • Absolutely outstanding music. Over and beyond fantastic. You feel like floating in time in the middle of the Universe.

Done with pre-historic and strange machines of that era. Now all that can probably be done with a simple computer.

  • probably!if that would be that easy, why progressive rock is not been done anymore?

Because it is not that easy and the criative minds are latent and dorment!

There are no outstanding minds anymore!

And there are no outstanding music anymore!,

  • Where on Earth have I said it was easy in the creative part? I meant the machines they used at the time. Now they could do it with a computer. And yes there are no creative bands like them or others of the 70's anymore.

  • If you mean, where are they in this video, some images are unmistakable and less than a mile from where I live -

    Coventry Cathedral

  • The Pink Floyd influence is quite obvious, but they definitely had a style of their own that, as someone else mentioned, was way ahead of their time! The influence that Tangerine Dream, themselves, have had on hundreds of bands is written in history, and rightfully-so!

  • but, were are they ?

  • ...but where are who? What are you referring to?

  • lol

  • from my understanding, some of the original members left. Tangerine Dream is still making albums to this day, but the technology is more modern, but it is still great work. Some of the modern work is actually pretty good.

  • why do usay it was a pink floyd influence? many bands were doing this. and many b4 PF

  • I would think that they influenced Floyd, not the other way 'round.

  • they're stil ahead of time !our mediocre time, minds, vision of life, energy, space, freedom, magic and health!

  • i would say not very much written, they are pretty unknown by the new generations of listeners

  • Przepiękne...

  • TD Creators of techno trance ?

  • The music is amazing totaly! it doesnt even sound like its from this planet....

  • Far ahead of their time obviously

  • Ricochet is my Favourite Album of TD , thank 4 the post :)

  • From goth to techno, it's evident in this peice that TD inspired many musicians to this day. TD forever! Aloha!

  • My husband used to be one of TD's 3-man road crew and was on the cathedral tour....he has a credit on Ricochet, too...!!!

  • Live at Coventry Cathedral far out!

Dig the Graham Sutherland paintings also!

  • Cool!

  • GREAT!!!!

  • My goodness this takes me back. Saw them do this live in the early 70s. Their early material was superb. Great to see them all recreated here. many thanks.

  • do do do do,,, how sufficiently bizarre

  • I always try to fall asleep with this song, but that part (DO DO DO DO) just won't let me go to sleep xD It always creeps the shit out of me.

  • Wonderful music!

  • Thanks for posting.

I have it on tape, but my Revox is as old as this track...

  • Great to see. I wish you could have all listened to this via vinyl as released. Much more powerful.

But so thankful to see this original performance posted.

  • I am an old vinyl fan of the record...i remember when it was new...on my marantz.....shhhhhhhh

  • Najlepszy utwór muzyczny Tangerine Dream. Po prostu praojcowie muzyki elektronicznej:)

  • Wrażenie robi aparatura, potężna, tajemnicza, jeszcze bez wszędobylskich monitorów. A jaką wspaniałą muzykę zespół na niej stworzył.

W mej pamięci ten utwór nierozerwalnie pozostanie związany z górnośląskim przemysłem. Równie niegdyś potężnym, niesamowitym i tajemniczym.

  • ARAVOURGIMA.

  • Don't miss Tangerine Dream live in London, on Nov 1st 2008 at the Forum and in Edinburgh, on Nov 2nd at the new Picture House. Both gigs with have a full laser show.

  • Went last night: This is a FANTASTIC show! Edgar and his new team were magic. Look out for the new female drummer sensational! And dont leave too early, the best bits were played in the 3 encores. The only thing more I can say is that theyve recaptured their 70s/80s magic! A MUST SEE show!

  • I have never heard this by TD. This is going to be my music for driving my corvette at night through the empty hills past Jamestown, CA under the stars.........with the top off. Does it get any better than that?

  • To me Ricochet is the classic TD album. Part 2 being the better track.

  • grandfathers of electronic music, like as Kraftwerk, Jane Michelle Jare, Vangelis

  • This is video footage with audio excerpts from the album Ricocet. the video is Edgar Froese, I think, playing live but not necessarily Ricocet. Nice post though. Great album from 1975.

  • A M A Z I N G ....

  • oh my god! this brings me right back to when i was a child my dad was a huge fan and jean michel jarre and now i am.

  • chemistry - electric

  • i only see one dude, wheres the other 2?

  • nevermind i saw em in there.

  • Zdecydowanie jedna z najlepszych kompozycji Tangerine Dream. Ach te analogi, serce się raduje, tańczy dusza i łza się w oku kręci.

  • in my opinion TD hit their peak in the 1970s and 1980s. After that it's not the same.

Overall I love them and have many of their classic albums on vinyl. Ricochet is one of the top best works they ever created.

  • i went to see tangerine dream in preston in the early 80's they were just fantastic

  • Just great!

  • Childhood memories: working hard at 10 years old to buy my first moog.

  • Brilliant in the 1970s.Saw them 5 times up till 1990.Then some woman came on stage in 1990 and played the saxophone!!!!Why doesn't just piss off and let the real musicians play the electronic stuff

  • didn't mind her so much. it was the right mix. Tyger however, now that was bad

  • Serious fucking roots in the electronic music scene right here.

  • Nice to see what the early days looked like.

  • I went to see Tangerine Dream at York Minster England in Oct 1975, this live album was culled from performances of the tour.

  • yes I saw them at Colston Hall Bristol same tour. A magical and unrepeateable musical event. Did a lot of ground work for Rolf and Florian in my view.

  • Think You mean Ralf and Florian from Kraftwerk?

  • Please tell us about felings ...

  • I know the album "Ricochet" since it was published. And I never saw any image of this concert. Thank you, thank you so much (crying) !

  • One of the best sequenced part ever in electronic mixes

musically, but these images are not exactly on it, coming from a some old documents from that time

  • Agree. I got into Franco Battiato's "Clic" about the same time. That is also a fine album.

  • Good electronic music:)

  • pezzipez, where did you get this video? Do you have any more like it posted?

  • Another eerie piece by TD. But still fantastic as ever. Long Live TD. Keep em posting pezzipez. Gr8 posting m8

  • still chilling after all those years

  • Masterpiece indeed. I've been listening to this fairly regularly for nearly 30 years now and I still love it every time. Not only is it a masterpiece of composition, it's amazing that it was performed live in 1976.

  • A masterpiece in electronic music !

  • There were in particular 3-4 albums by TD that made a profound impact on me when i was VERY young(from the age 9 to 16)! I got to know them thru my older brother who often listened to their music back then. I'm still in awe of their talents & music!

  • i saw these play in manchester uk in 1980.i did fall asleep though (hard day at work)

  • 32 years old and still fresh. TD are the true godfathers of modern Techno.

  • I listened to this when I was about 5 lol. know they are one of my favourite groups. Truly amazing stuff.

  • back in the day we called this head music i guess they call it techno now

  • Actually "head music" somehow sounds much more precise& apt than today's "techno" & other similar genres! Thanks for that info.! =)

  • genius pioneering group that were ahead of their time

  • Great Cerebral Space-Rock!

  • If you liked this video and hardcore experimental

electronic fan you would like "TRIP TO UNKNOWN"

    by sibervizyon.

  • those were the days, where the equipment set up time was equivalent to lighting up a few 100 candles. Literally. :-)

  • I just might have to get Ricochet after seeing this. I have Alpha Centauri, Zeit, Phaedra, and Rubycon already.

  • Supply yourself with FORCE MAJEURE from TD. It's the very best in my opinion, with hard breaks and effects - rather monumental, but more melodious...good luck!

  • Simply awesome...thank you pezzipez, ciao from Goryllo, a 49 y.o. guy, still today a big fan of TD.

Ciao from Italy. P.S. (nothing 'bout Atmosfear?)

  • Tangerine Dream's masterpiece.

Played this album so many times. Very moving to see this video.

  • This song is really well done, and I like the video clip aswell.

Tangerine Dream is the best Band out there in my opinion.

  • They're pretty good. "Zeit" is my all time favourite album, but for the most part I'm a Schulze fan.

  • Zeit is a real trip, a good trip. Sometimes I think Schulze's instrumental arrangements are trying to seduce me (might sound strange but I'm not sure how else to describe it).

  • I am, first and foremost, a Schulze fan. I keep going back to Tangerine Dream, but Schulze I never left. So yeah, I know what you mean.

  • Chris Franke, "Mr. Sequencer"

  • This is far beyond awesome.

  • The structure and musical logic of old TD is much closer to contemporary electronica than Kraftwerk ever was, even if Kraftwerk got the techno "attitude" first.

  • great insight, sjl62

  • beautiful! my dad's favourite song and i'm 49! i bought it in 1976? Brill...

  • Amazing is the only word I can think of. This song and video gives me chills everytime I hear it. I the ablum would be remastered.

  • Thank you for posting this awesome video....I'm a huge fan of TD I have almost every album that they ever put out....they are so awesome....Thank you

  • Five years ago my 20 year old brother heard Ricochet playing on my hi-fi. "Is this by The orb" he asked?

When I told him it was made before he was born he was amazed!
