To Vicodin75 - Rene was born with spina bifida. It is a birth defect that affects the spinal chord and the nerves in the spine - pretty much these areas are undeveloped. Typically it is operated on while the infant is still newborn - varying degrees of this can affect a person. Rene seems to have a more extreme case from what I know about it.
This guy is the greatest. I met Rene when I was in Vermont on a work assignment. He is just so nice and funny. He treated me like he knew me for years, even though I was just a fan. He does leave an impression on people, he sure did leave one on me.
I didn't say that all Vermonters have accents. I live in VT, and my family's been in Vermont for over two hundred years, but I don't have an accent. I was simply pointing out that Rene's rich dialect and delightful manner of pronunciation is representative of the Vermont "accent".
I also didn't say that all handicapped are in the same "category". I'm disabled myself and was just agreeing with what Rene had said.
Which leads me to believe Undeadmolly you should not put all handicapped people in the same catagory. They seem to do alot more than sit on the couch like most Americans do.
Great piece about a great man... Rene is a bad ass Vermonter old school style .. Old timers in the hood told me stories about how nobody in town could take him in a fight and when he got rowdy down town after drinkin' that the only way they could get him out of the bar was to have one guy distract him while another would sneak up behind him pick him up and literally throw him down the stairs ass over tea kettle. Jesum-Crow you could get arrested for that these days ...LOL ...
Oh shit! He's frickin awesome. I wonder why I haven't heard of him before? I agree, most handicapped/chronically ill people are a total drag and have zero sense of humor.
P.S. If you've never heard a Vermont accent before, THAT'S IT.
does he still act

I knew Rene in seventh grade in South Burlington (more years ago than I care to count). He was an inspiration then and he is now.

If he was taller he would look like Clark Kent from Superman. Something about his face especially with the glasses on.

What a charmer! Rene is an inspiration and simply a great "down to earth" Vermonter. No pun intended. :)

Graceful, sexy, and inspirational. I know he was less wobbly in the bars (and on the ski slopes) than I was when I saw him in the '80's!
