  • Madtracker were not modern, even at its releasing, and its unfinished in many ways - but its power far BEYOND than this composition - you simply have no idea how to use this tracker, methinks... therefore I have no idea about the "How to..." title.

  • do i need a keyboard? or...yea...

  • Yo if you wanna see what Madtracker can really do, check out Schedule 1 on myspace. Fuck Ableton and Massive, Madtracker's where its at

  • Comment removed

  • Daniel You use famitracker

can you tell me how to make music on famitracker?

I have 2 pulses for melodies and triangle channel for bass

I have first melody and bass, how I can figure out second melody?

You have some methods for this?

  • modplug tracker rules:)

  • meh, modplug tracker i take is better.

  • Hmm...whats that first VST plugin you used? looks neat

  • Okay, it's Mad Tracker, not "modern tracker". :-D I using this with Hypersonic 2, Chakewalk Instrumants and ReFx Nexus. These are the kings. ;-)

  • omg what u are doing is for them who knows how to, look i just dowloadet it and you are helping me NADA!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I love to see that there are people using trackers out here. I think the tutorial works for people who know the functions of trackers but just don't know where to start in a song. Also, you could use Drumatic 3's built-in bit crusher instead of the one that you used to bit crush each sound individually. I don't think the 808 kit sounds all that good, so you could do some tweaking. And don't quit tracking! You could find some spare time to make something.

  • how to get the kick in drumatic like that? mine always sounds like trash

  • @foxsan48 Export as OGG, Download FormatFactory, and change it to WAV, MP3, whatever. FormatFactory is the fastest and most reliable converting program I ever used.

  • Check out new updated description! Especially link.

  • @daniel1982 "You're the insprasian" is my prouedest produce.

  • @daniel1982 TECHNO VIKING will smite you

  • Great song. I prefer Modplug tracker.

  • Modplug Tracker is better.

  • Modplug Tracker is better.

  • 1:31-2:14

Why dont you tell me how to get that tool or whatever?

  • @MarsRover2012 How hard is it to Google?

  • Milky tracker is sexy, downside.

    Epileptic.

  • i dont want to fucking know bout your career i want to know how to use it

  • lol

  • @squaredcorn Google and study like the rest of us. It is nothing you learn overnight.

  • You should try helping your viewers instead of bitching on them, you want comments and viewers or not?

  • I never asked for anything. I'm just here.

  • @daniel1982 In that case fuck you get a fuckin grip asshole,

Ur making a tutorial but its fuckin useless and y what u make sounds like shit anyway

  • @daniel1982 Its a shame this comment was 1 year ago, because i'd assume in that year you would've learned what a double negative is. Although, you were 28-ish when submitting that comment, I doubt you'd have learnt simple english at 29 if not already. Nothing for Noone = The exact opposite of what I assume you meant to write.

  • @daniel1982

At least don't lie next time, you vulgar chav

  • put "how I" not "How to" in the title if your going to tell the viewers of your video who need help to fuck off.

  • where do you get those vst's from--and are the free?

  • The VSt's are free of charge, and comes with MadTracker. I don't know if they are free as in freedom though (GNU-free, y'know?).

  • thanks!

  • NOT. I am a borat.

  • You suck

  • Ok, mr. team fortress 2.

  • Ummm.... I need some help...

When im adding samples its going all weird. When i Add A Sample the Folder in the sample box thing come but when i add annother sample it goes to the same one and i can only use one instrument.

    Help?

  • Okay, wankers. It is not a tutorial. I would never do anything to help you fuckers. Read the desciption. Does it say toturial? Does it say that i want to help you tracking? No! So fuck off!

  • 'How to Create Music with a Modern Tracker' - If you do not want people asking questions... Why did you call it a HOW TO?

Or are the words 'wankers' and 'fuckers' the way you address people that actually watched your clip for 6 mins?

If 1982 is indeed your year of birth, then I think you are Immature, Impolite and arrogant - you would think that someone past their 1st quarter of a centuary in life would show a little respect for people!

    Happy tracking F00ker!

  • FTW!!! :D

  • @daniel1982 Actually you are incorrect.

It is obvious you had spelled the title of your video wrong.

If you do not wish to help others, simply put "i' instead of 'to'.

Common misspellings can lead to confusion on common misconceptions.

  • @daniel1982 You're a joke.

  • I personally beleive it gets quite cool around 5:00 :-|

    *claps myself on the back*

  • i skipped to that point and it sounded pretty good

  • Comment removed

  • are you or some kind of engenious comedian?

  • Where can i download plugins and VST's like that! I'm well into using madtracker2 but revert to using fruityloops cuz there seems to be alot more plugins and effects! ..please help!

  • try tweakbench com, nice retro synths there.

  • I made a video last night sharing my recent interests in making tracker music. Once I've gotten the hang of using this program, I have to say that this program is wonderful. I've made a few so-so songs with this, but I'm mostly looking for a killer set of samples. I'm mostly going by what samples I do have. But this is a pretty cool video.

  • daniel1982 here (again).

I have upload a handfull of my ealy tracks. My favourite of those is "Back to Bascis". That particular one consists of 3 samples; Triangle, Sine and Noise. They are insanely small.

My point is that you don't need killer samples to make good music; Actually i'd say that you'd be better off using the smallest looped samples you can find. That way you are forced to add real mod effects, and that will give you a whole lot of experience.

    Good luck, and cheers

  • Send me link for download Fats tracker 2 please

  • daniel1982 at your disposal: I am deaf and dumb; Can't you hear that?

  • are those songs in the tracker when ur getting it ?

  • Nice thx- now i know what madtracker is... And now I want it... ^^

  • No problem babe.

Love you like a milkshake ^^

  • Madtracker... a modern Tracker?! I like it, but its oldschool.

  • daniel1982 here.

Here i use VSTs. I dare to say that oldscool trackers use samples only, and that Madtracker is modern in contrast to that.

  • Was too quick there. I know oldschool trackers use the soundchip.

  • Madtracker sucks, go Modplug

  • i agree

  • modplug is dead, use buzz ..

  • I wonder how a software that has constanly been developed since 1997 can be "more dead" than a software of which the sourcecode got lost for many years until the coder decided to continue development from an old backup...

  • there is new versions of buzz coming almost weekly .. check jeskola web site. about modplug, ive been using it until the improvements went smaller to none. all i can see the past years are cosmetic changes

  • I am almost certain that everything I did for modplug was NOT cosmetic changes... And if you want to put it like this, I'm upping a new version almost every day. duh.

  • well sir i appreciate your effort as modplug is still deep in my heart. but since olivier stopped working on it i haven't noticed any improvements in the most critical areas - such as plugin hosting, advanced mixing / patching capabilities, multilayered instruments, midi plugins .. i was thinking about contributing to modplug until i realized that making vst plugins for a decent host gives me quick results and an option to change when i feel like it

  • Well, VST and VSTi hosting certainly got improved in OpenMPT, however it is correct that some crucial stuff like plugin delay compensation is still missing - mostly due to the fact that nobody in the current dev team really knows much about VSTs - and judging from the VST support in Olivier's modplug, he didn't know too much as well.

  • How do I get more instruments?... Might be a stupid question but uh still, I need answers... Makes me wonder if I have to make them myself... >__>

  • what vst effect was that???

  • it's 'Synth1'

  • no, at 1:33

  • that's 'buffer override' by dfx

  • thanks!

  • UMm i wanna create my own songs like techno how would i create a backround techno ?

    please help

  • fl studio is shit, logic studio rulezz ;]

  • cool i mite check it out and ill crack it :P

  • all i know is how to use the drums pattern part of MT2. but i wanna know how to get other notes in like piano n stuff. or how to use those numbers n letters thingy

  • Find "Octave" in the top menu and change it.

Those 'letters-thingies" are effects, and you only need to use them if you want to geek out and do some serious tracking with samples; not VST instruments.

  • how can i get the higher notes on the keyboard? i only get low notes

  • Hit the white New Instrument button under the box at the upper right of the screen. Double-click the newly appeared "New Instrument" line. When the window comes up, click the yellow folder. Click the drop-down box and select "Samples". Browse through these folders until you find something you like. To get a different pitch, try a different keyboard button.

  • this pisses me off theres no fucking person that says how the fuck to use this damn programs its fucking useless.

  • It's a standard tracker, and unless you're an old fart dwelling in the past like the rest of us, you don't use a fucking tracker.

  • Reason 4 FTW

nah joking, i like Reason and Cubase etc, but ocassionally its nice to make some chiptune on some raw old fashioned tracker, its a feel good factor i think :)

  • Hi daniel1982 Can you tell me how you switch threw different instruments like how you where doing when trying to make up a beat with out having to click on new instruments and load sample. Kinda new at this but it help me alot if told me How and thanks for reading Love the beat you made btw see ya!

  • How do you make drum sounds using this program and a plugin? Never quite understood that :S

  • nice job :) whats the plug in called at 1:40? reminds me of grm tools years ago...

  • It's called Buffer Override. It's a cool little toy, but not much more (I think.. I am by the way the author of this video with new name).

  • thx i go search torent

  • sweet program, im still using 2.3 dude working perfectly as the day i got it back in 2003 :D i cant stand VST in madtracker it never works propperly for me. plus samples only, gives it that pure edge for my sound :)) always found it more analogue than most programs.

bring on madtracker 3 though that will be a mean program will definitely be better than reason and renoise.

  • I use MadTracker 2 as well. It's great to see how you do it!!

  • I don't get it, how i can but the instruments on the place so i can play em..?

  • yeah me neither dude...

  • "Does the program cost?" "Is the program free?"

    Ask Google you dimwits.

  • Does this program cost?

  • nope

  • It's free and if you look a bit deeper in the 'Plugins' lists, a lot of them are also free. Some great stuff there. The forum is also active and useful. All-in-all, a great program that is well surpported.

  • Were can i download it?

  • You can't post URL's into replies - but just use Google. There's no secret - it's easy to find.

  • can u send it to me in a mail? can u make professional music with this? like music that cud be picked up by a record label?

  • There's not much point - just put 'Madtracker' into your search engine and you'll go straight there. The URL won't be accepted in this type of reply.

There are LOADS of VST plugins you can track down for yourself with a bit of perseverance

I never put my email into messages, and (as with URL's) it wouldn't be accepted anyway.

There really is no problem finding the software and downloading it and stacks of free plugins.

  • thanks for the help! can u make professional music with this? like music that cud be picked up by a record label?

  • Depends upon how good a musician you are. I reckon you'd have to be really top-flight to get a chance at what you suggest but if the ambition is there ......

The one question I would pose is whether a tracker is the best way to achieve your ambition. Although useful and powerful, the technology is pretty old.

But, as with everything, it's what you make of it (and with it). Good luck.

  • One more thought: although I doubt that you'd get a mainstream record label interested, it's worth considering Independents and to realise it would be a hell of a feature if you managed to create professional-quality tracks using freeware. The only similar thing I can think of was when Daniel Beddingfield first came to notice. One feature that kept being mentioned was the fact that he created recordings in his bedroom. Even so, you really are going to have to be good to get very far.

  • lol i have this and absolutely no clue how to switch tracks! tell me how!

  • is this tracker free

  • looks like Madtracker and yeah that is free

  • oh man now i want to try this out.

my life will be ruined !!

    gj rox dude

  • I kinda like the intuitive way of making mysic in MT2. However I wish there where Impulse Tracker with VST support :/ .. IT2 was the best tracker ever made, so simple and fast way to work with.

  • i would appreciate it if you can do a talk through tutorial

  • i use nitrotracker on my ds xD

  • Use ModPlug. Its much better.

All you do is find the sound files for the sounds from this program and place it in a file you can find easily. XP

  • What? You can't do that with MTII now?

  • I used Mad Tracker for a while, now I use Renoise ^_^

  • How do i use this?

  • Renoise STAND UP!

  • Its so odd lookin that i would probly never try it , but to each's own

  • "Odd" how? To me it looks like standard oldschool tracking (plus VST instruments/minus 'effect-codes').

  • Fucking ace!!! Cool song! havent tracked in a long time but i wanna start learning it now :D using this awsome tracker! tried modplug tracker but found it a bit lame!

  • you have a midi keyboard huh?

  • Nope :) Not in that video.

  • madtracker sucks, get modplug tracker

  • Quite a statement. I believe that's ultimately a matter of preferences. Personally I've always found ModPlug disturbingly irritating to work with, but that's just me. Doesn't mean the program suck.

  • Great software!! easy and good gui...

  • mad tracker is very good but he cant be as good as renoise

  • thanks daniel1982 ur help me understand how to use madtracker now cuase i downloaded it i was confused lol

  • please answer this !!! can i make an mp3 file out of my modern tracker song??? ifnot i can throw it awaY??!!!

  • You can export ogg and midi. In the registred version (costs you money) you can also export wave.

You can convert ogg to mp3 with Audacity, if you must (ogg is a much finer format than mp3).

  • ok well i would use this if it wasent for the fact that the narative instruments and mainly absynth doesnt even work propperly. it gets to one note (c04) and you change this to (e04), and basicly it goes back to the c04 note its fucked. in the newest one as well. so i use madtracker 2.3 its the best one for making a tune JUST out of samples. but il try recording a tune on madtracker but it wont be good, small screen.

  • I have never had the problem you describe (VST instruments is the industry standard of synthetic music creation).

  • good beat !!

    congratulations

  • What is madtracker like compared to something like ableton live?

  • This was heplful. Im still new to Madtracker and tracking in general so this was to help. I got the Bufferoverride, really gives it all a ol' school sound. Great work man!

  • soundtracker turned into protracker didnt it? on the amiga , ive been tracking for a good 20 years now :O though these days ive gone strange and just mesh now bit like dj mixing but with 2 second sampling law ... great job on this!! good of you to share too :D ,, much care

  • yo, i have madtracker, would really like to know how to use but but do not know where to start do you know any good tutorials? :) thanks

  • id suggest using the madtracker website im sure theres tutorals that cover alot of the basics etc dont no about video tutorials though , but yeah id suggest using the softwares website , if theres something your having trouble with and they dont cover it i should email them asking so they can cover it for others to know too so you be helping others aswell :) they do compos so im sure there happy to help newbies too

  • cool man thanks, i do alot of production but have never used a tracker, and watching venetian snares i reall want to !

  • The Madtracker website is useless for tutorials...

  • (I'm still the author)

It's kind of a tradition for creators of trackers to make detailed documentation unavailible. You really just need to play around.

  • Yea, im definatly finding that! Getting there though. Slowly. :)

  • By SoundTracker I mean the XM tracker for UNIX-like systems, sorry. I have only tried the original SoundTracker briefly; have not actually worked with it.

  • Good stuff, I have played about with loads of trackers (Modplug,Milky,Fasttracker,Scream,Octamed,Protacker) but haven't made anything half decent since I used my old atari ST and Audio Sulpture. I tried using a couple of VST's with Modplug but kinda got fed up, may go and give mad tracker a bash now!

  • nice fx. i need to really get into VST plugins.

  • wow what VSTs did u use??

  • daniel1982 here.

The VSTs I used here are some that come with MadTracker 2 by default.

    * Drumatic 3.dll for drums.

    * dfx Buffer Override stereo.dll for drum manipulation (love this one!).

    * FreeAlpha.dll for bass.

    * Synth1 VST.dll for melody and so forth.

Don't be scared by Synth1's cheap graphical design! It's a real sweet instruument.

  • ive been madtracking for a while. thanks for posting man.... unfortunately ive outgrown it for my real composing but i sure do love the ohc's when they (sparsely) pop up

  • You should check out Renoise, it's really nice as well. Also has VST support.

  • That was done so fast man! And this is for someone who has used for madtracker as long as you!
