hey i just started a planted tank, i dont have a specific light for the tank, im using the light tht the tank came with. i think its a fluorescent light( tube kind) so would this work or do i need to buy a specific light for the tank, plz respond i neeed ur help!
What kind of substrate do you got? Anything special fertilizer? Debating whether to remove all the gravel in my tank and changing it with sand and fertilizer. Any suggestions?
Can anybody tell me wether my lighting is good enough for my plants. i have a 20 gallon with a total of about 19 to 20 watts lighting flourecant full hood. i want some low lighting plants like anacharis, java moss, java ferns, anubias, some amazon swords if possible. and i would like to know if they can be planted in pool filter sand or sand. and i would also want to know if i still need to fertilze them.i dont want to use co2 because i cant afford it plese help!thanks.(ANYBODY PLEASE RESPOND)
you want to use at least 40 watts for the plants. 2 watts per gal. Your plant list do not need CO2 but add a bottle of Perrier once a week. Cheap CO2 trick. The ferns and swords will need heavier gravel than sand. For fertilizer, add Seacham flouride once a week.
when you turn on a regular air pump, it increases the surface agitation. this is counterproductive when you are trying to increase the CO2 in the tank. When you run both, almost all the CO2 you pumped into the tank will just go into the atmosphere
I turn my filter/air pump off during the day. The plants will create more than enough oxygen during the day to keep your fish happy. If your fish are breathing from the top then you have a problem and need to check your set up. Turn your filter/air pump back on at night because photosynthesis does not take place at night (no light) and your plants use oxygen rather than make it. Unless your tank is overstocked with fish and/or you feed too much, you shouldn't need to run your filter 24/7.
Awesome setup. What are the carpetting plants you use?

Also...don't go out and buy a hundred plants to make your tank look like this. The whole point of a garden is to make it grow.

Can CO2 systems run the same time as Air pumps and still create this?
