  • They responses that i am reading we need to thank "Willie Lynch Letters" for the attitudes.

  • if it wasn't for my use of shea butter i would have became bald. so i embrace my natural for the last seven years and i am proud grandmother of three, and a mother of three. i am not

here to tell anyone what they should do with their hair it is your choice, but please ladies

do not get mad with this sister who is celebrating her new found freedom. we are all entitled to our opinion.

  • I went natural because i grew tired of the thinning hair, no i never was bald, but i have had some bad experiences. When i reached my 40's i had a moment. It was time to let go of the relaxed hair and i went to braids, and even the africa sisters braided my hair so tight, my ends

    started to come out.

  • i am just curious, how does a relaxed hair be healthy, with the type of chemicals they use to straightened your tightly coiled hair, because as you get older your hair do thin, and if you are on medication it makes it worst.

  • This is interesting to me. I use to think it was true, that black girls could ONLY grow hair to their ears. Then it breaks off. Untill I saw this clip. SO, you mean to tell me that this is just a MYTH? I ACTUALLY hope that its IS just a myth. Because it NEVER really made sense to me. The problem is, I've NEVER seen a black woman (UNLESS SHE IS MIXED) with NATURAL HAIR DOWN HER BACK. Lalachiki, I'm counting on you to tell me the truth. IS IT POSIBLE FOR A NON-MIXED BLACK WOMAN TO GROW LONG HAIR?

  • But its odd that most black women have a preference for straight hair over natural. Hmm...??

  • and am currently going on the journey to my natural hair. Only God knows if I'll make it. However, I pray to God that I don't encounter this type of ignorance getting there. God bless my beautiful sisters, stay strong for each other.

  • Honestly it makes me sad to hear all the judgement we go from one extreme to another, really it's about personal choice. Our focus as women, black women especially, should be supporting and lifting each other up, not tearing each other down. The irony here is that the hate we project, no matter the subject, is exactly what someone else wants us to do to each other. So if you look at me and hate the way I wear my hair, shouldn't you be ashamed just because u hate..... I have permed hair...

  • Succint and to the point. Applause, you go girl!

  • Gurl u kept it 100!! Sad that out ppl don't recognise :( I'm glad I had my awakening goin natural soon :)

  • So many people are missing the point. Great video! Really makes you think about why you've relaxed to begin with. If you love your relaxed hair and are not ashamed of ur natural texture, this isn't for you. If you have scalp issues this isn't for you. If you are natural and go back and forth to weaves, wigs and ur natural... This isn't for you!

  • very good points on this video. i went natural because of relaxers. i didn't know that relaxing my hair was self hatred. i was told that i needed relaxers because im a "black girl". i didn't know that having natural hair was complete freedom. it was best decision i made for my hair.

  • 25 people know ur talking about them!

  • guess what i've also been natural and based on my own experience a relaxer is easier to deal w/ for me at this point. why no to each her own attitude. i luv amazing hair whether it's in a natural texture or relaxed. it's a choice! i hate being preached to, i'm aware of horror stories but really stop w/ the scare tactics it weakens your statement. i don't won't pics i want scientific facts give me studies where relaxers cause cancer or dementia, something. i'll sit up and listen then.

  • AWESOME VIDEO !!

  • I get it. Its cool, but I get slightly irritated when people feel like they are some how living on a higher conscience level than everybody else because they are rocking locks or their naturally tightly curled hair. I love my natural hair but I also love wearing a Cleopatra inspired bangs and bob, or an Indian inspired part down the middle with draping hair on the side. My hair is my art form and I love to do different things. I am not lost because I don't have an Afro.

  • What if you have cancer and lost all your natural hair to chemo, nothing wrong with wearing a wig til you hair grows in.

  • Hairstyles (including weaved ones) are simply creative expression. It has little to do with self-hate and more to do with women wanting a different look. Natural hairstyles have always been worn and will always be worn. It's really not that big of an issue.Other race women wear weaves and wigs so why is it such a big deal when we do it? White women use perms to add texture to their hair, they sunbathe at the risk of skin cancer, they buy booty pads, yet their ppl never accuse them of self-hate.

  • oh would you leave my black people alone what are you raccist

  • not all black women wear weave i have beautiful long hair im from somali a lot of black girls have sexy hair

  • OMG...absolutely love this videoo...everything is soo true and funny at the same time lol...

  • why is it that just because she isnt doing it anymore she wants everyone to stop ?

babygirl please stop these because i love relaxing and coloring my natural hair !

  • I truly love my waist-length dreadlocs, and there are no chemicals in my bloodstream. I began my locs 6 months before my sister lost her battle with breast cancer 7 years ago. She told me to never change my natural way of life for anyone, and she swore, literally with her dying breath, that all the dyes (she liked her hair red sometimes), all the perming (more than 30 years) and everything else including products, contributed to her cancer; was not the cause. Who knows.

  • well black women can now grow their relaxed hair as long as they want! Learn to use more natural products. I like being relaxed and natural. I perferred relaxed now just because im use to having relaxed hair and being that i was natural for a while, i know how to better care for my relaxed hair and my goal is bra strap lentgh.

  • This is so true.

  • I ONLY KNOW ONE PERSON THAT NEEDS A WEAVE OR WIG MY COUSIN WITH ALOPECIA (SORRY IF MISSSPELLED) SHE IS COMPLETELY BALD AND NOT BY PERM OR DAMAGE OR CHOICE ITS A DISEASE SHE HAS NO HAIR AT ALL ANYWHERE AND SHE CHOOSES TO WEAR THESE BECAUSE SHE WANTS HAIR LIKE MOST GIRLS DO THE REST OF UYS GO NATURLA LIKE I DO ITS A LOTCHEAPER THATN THE SALON EVERY TWO WEEKS

  • hi! i am transitioning from relaxed to natural.......5 months so far & i am doing my BC on march 2011! & i think ur videos are AMAZING! i will tell the truth & say that i used to hate my natural hair but it was only because no1 else ever praised it? when ur raised that way its pretty hard to change! but ur videos have inspired me! relaxers have chemicals! i wouldn't put them n my hair, y put them in my body!? i am probably gonna b the 1st natural n my family but i very happy about it! :)

  • Look at us now, were the only group of women who hate ourselves so much we will actually go the length to damage our hair with chemicals and glue fake hair to our heads. i have never once seen a white, asian, indian etc.. woman with permed hair before but most of the black women i know either relax, put weaves, or both.

  • if you feel good with yourself what does it matter how you have your hair?

  • Preach lalachiki! Liberate yourselves my sistahs! God gave us our hair for a reason. I can proudly go out on the street with curly or with an afro now. A year ago I would not. Other races are in awe when I step out into the streets!

  • It is easier to deal w/ I dn't spend alot money on hair only about $60 every two months, I wrap my hair at night which you should be doing, even if your hair is natural) there is no need to flat iron it becuz its straight in the morning, just add soft curlers for bounce. When it has to be relaxed again I braid the front and put it into a puffy ponytail. Id rather do that than dreds or a short afro or worrying about getting a job becuz my hair is too afrocentric (because this happens).

  • This "truth" is very biased and generalized. Whats wrong with wearing your hair straight? As long as its yours whats the problem? My hair is relaxed, I wear it so not because Im ashamed, its a style choice. Your perception of relaxed hair and how to take care of it is incorrect and biased. Relaxed and natural both need care. Dont tell women to be ashamed of what they do to their hair, if anything encourage/help, instead of bashing just to promote natural hair! but i do respect your opinion

  • @tayah10 Exactly most women that go natural google "perm burnt hair" and come up w/ these terrible perm gone wrong pics.. if you put the perm in correctly it doesn't do that. Whoever gets these crazy balds spots and damage should sue the person who did their hair.

Hair can be healthy relaxed or straight, you just have to know how to take care of it. Ive seen Black women and men with terrible, breakage and this was in natural styles, because they didn't know how to take care of it.

  • Look both are expensive!Once you go natural you must learn your hair and that could take money we dont want it dry and brittle,or crazy looking.Second im natural also with curly fro it sometimes dose take up time detangleing.I think what they mean is like the detangleing, combing, and styleing.Actually a relaxer is easier cause detangleing is usually not involved for people with extremely fast life styles.I dont agree with chemicals in hair but if u do id say go with texture softener. NO WEAVE!!

  • Having dead hair tells others that you are one of the walking dead, so go natural sisters.

  • Hmmmm. I don't think natural hair is easier to deal with. It takes just as much time and maintenance and in some cases more time and more maintenance. I'm natural and I thought that I didn't have to work if I released the chems. I was wrong. i do have to work hard at retaining length, moisture, and all of that. So, i think both states of hair is time consuming. But, I love my naps and I do not miss that fire.

  • @iroc31407 Oh yeah, natural hair can be very time consuming, but the results are worth it. Like you, I also love my hair and I'm all about my 'fro. I can never betray my natural hair by permanently altering her with the creamy crack. Enough is enough! Never again!

  • Here is something to consider, since the skin is the largest organism of the human body that is very absorbent just image what this poison is doing to your life. You are poisoning your body similar to smoking or drugs. If this is the case imagine the health of your unborn children. Could it be that you are possibly not only risking your future health, but the health of your future children. Ladies think about it.

  • LOL add more time to the beautyshop visit. Salons generally cram as many peple in as they can, wait time 6 hours. And if you have daughters, ALL DAY!! Another one I hate is the salons where the men are on one side getting haircuts staring dead in your mouth or having a sex with you mentally, and the women on the other side getting weaves put in...madness and a waste of time and money!!!!!!!!

  • I agree with you....there is no such thing as "good hair"!!!! My sister died of breast cancer and after her chemo treatments, she was glad to see her hair grow back. She did not want to wear wigs because she loved her natural hair after going through so much. She is one of my inspirations to start my transition to my natural hair.

  • @Tanisha0782 im so sorry for your loss.but im so happy that your sister has infuenced you in such a positive and strong way. i have been natural now for 3 months. i dont know what it was but i woke up one day and i was fed up of relaxers. i just had an epiphany. and it was really aweakening.

  • @Tanisha0782 right now iam using braids to grow out my nautral hair to a length whetr i can wear it in a ponytail or do braidouts and twistouts. it is so awekening. no more running from the rain or swimming pool or humidity lol! i

  • So you said that we do not wear weaves to look white but yet we are ashamed of our kinky hair. And that picture of beyouce showed her with blonde hair and tyra and mary j so what is that about blond weaves? I am not trying to hate, just sounds a little contridicting. I have been natural for a year and I used to wear weaves and perms, but I am happiest with my natural hair, I think natural hair is so beautiful and unique.

  • lol, I think you meant "You're ashamed"

"your" declares ownership, "you're" = you + are. Just sayin'!

  • WOW, how refreshing!!!!

  • After 10 years of perms, braids, etc ... I cut my damaged hair off. I feel and look good with my natural hair. I was ashamed of my hair before but I feel so much better now. Everyone else wears their hair natural ... and now so do I ... I will never go back to perms and making my hair do things it was not intended to do. I'm rockin what God blessed me with. People tell me how gorgeous I am. Not because of my hair ... but because I am finally happy with who I am.

  • I myself is/am natural and have been for 2 years and the video sends a strong message, but i do not totally agree with your verbage you used. I rarely, but still will where a sew-in, but I would not want to be categorized as ashamed. Nothing is wrong with a weave nor a perm, it's how you manage or take care of your hair.

  • lol at the "You're a D@m~ Fool! hehhehehe

    love this video

  • please could you let me know the name of this song on your video? thank you

  • Its that song by Jagged edge called put a little umph in it ft Ashanti.

  • This video is okay I use my natural hair but, i dont judge others because they dont wear their natural hair. Its a personal choice. you can grow long hair with relaxed or natural hair. As black woman we should come together not bring others down because they have relaxed hair. If you take care of your hair properly eat well use essential oils cut split ends. ur hair will grow.

  • I agree with this video. cuz the truth is, relaxing your hair isnt much cheaper unless you do it yourself, which can be done. ithink if your doing things to your hair bcuz you MUST do it, something is wrong. Irelaxed mine jus cuz it made it easier for me to manage when iwas younger (it wasnt silky str8) my hair is relaxed now an STILL isnt like that cuz thats not how I want it. alotta blk chicks do need to sit dwn an really think of why they do the things they do

  • I have hereditarily thin hair so right now I wear a wig or a weave because it is so damn thin. I like the versatality of this. Until I fiqure out what in the world I am going to do with this head they are my friends. But I surely will not perm this head again. I don't want any more burns. It is hard living in america and be yourself people expect you to be something you are not , GOD gave blacks this hair for a reason. I will be all the way natural in a minute.

  • Less focus on Fake and straight hair ladies and more focus on the content of your heart and minds . This video will not tell you nothing that you don't already know about yourself . But it needed to made to reinforce the stupidity of perms weaves BRILLIANT VIDEO KEEP THEM COMING 5 STARS ALL DAY

  • Another excellent video!

    Much respect!

  • I gave it 5 stars

  • GREAT VIDEO!!!!!

  • i'm a multi-racial girl ,my hair is what some ppl calls "good hair"but you know something ,i wish sometimes my hair was streight sometimes i want my hair "afro",my friends are the same way ,we want, what we don't have, make up, hair texture etc

  • im 14 and black im a dude and i have a afro no one says anything to me

  • im only 14 && i wanna go natural sooo bad. but i barely can deal with my hair while its relaxed && idk what i would do with it natural. at my age, EVERYONE is judgemental && im not really sure if i could handle it. i would be soo happy if i got up the courage to transition

  • hi i'm fifteen and i'm from the netherlands and i just did my BIG CHOP just go for it if you wanna do it you'll feel so FREE and just don't mind what other people think of you and your hair it's yours and if you like then you should do it

  • Ive been their, let me suggest something. Start wearing natural hair styles in the begining, like straw set. or rod set, then after maybe 3 months you will have a good amount of growth, so you can twist or lock what ever. You dont have to do the big chop like that, just dont perm your hair for a minute, then when you feel comfortable, cut the perm ends off. and thanks to YouTube, their are lots of product reviews and techniques to help you care your hair. good luck :)

  • I never once put weave in my hair. Nor do i receive relaxers. It only takes me a minuet to wrap my hair and about to hours to flat iron it. I would cut my hair before I ever touch a weave or wig. I prefer to do the natural hair style (my hair is very curly and wavy, yet very thick). But I wouldn't bash those who does.

  • haha take the hair off and the looked liked shaved monkey men heheheee

  • I think we use relaxers to be beautiful. Our minds are trained that out hair is ugly because what we see as beautiful is long light colored hair. I see this moving even further when girls BLEACH their skin and look for ligther skin guys.

  • PROPS on this vid.Funny too!

  • Im currently growing my natural hair back out. Its pretty hard to deal with having 2 hair textures, but the end result will be beautiful. It's so much harder to deal with processed hair and those perms are killing us (literally). Those are toxins that go through our body and thats far from safe. I think all Black women should give their natural hair a try again cuz for a lot of us our last memory of our natural hair was when we were kids. Thats pretty messed up. We need to go back to that.

  • WTF? Medicated adhesives?

What are they using?...Tiger Balm patches or some shit? WOW. The subconscious conditioning runs deep fam. I have a beautiful short ass fade, and I get compliments everyday about how my hairstyle accentuates my beautiful features. Compliments are wonderful. However, most importantly, I love me like this because the Goddess is fine as hell!

    One Love. ^_^

  • I was talking with this sista yesterday and she was all Black Power This, Black Power that, but as soon as I made a comment about BW wearing & loving their natural all hell broke loose. Wigs, perms, tracks are like Jesus Christ on Sunday to most BW. They will fight to to the death to defend their right to change their hair texture. They will be crying, snoting speaking in tounges telling me to mind my business and this and that. If hair means that much why not love your real hair texture?

  • Actually no! With natural hair you still have to do most of that stuff, moisturizing, conditioning, use satin scarfs to prevent hair breakage ( cause that still occurs) I really dislike people hating on girls that relaxed. I have NEVER worn a weave (seriously) and i have long (relaxed) hair but because its relaxed there's a problem?

  • you get less breakge with natural hair. and with any hair texture you have to condition and moisturize lol

  • Loves it!!!

  • i know how to take care of my real natural hair! I'm loving it! and i wish more black women would look at it as an option. Half of them getting huffy puffy about this video probably never started perming their hair as an adult. There moms probably made it a nessecity like most of us. And forget race for a second, its you. Work with what ya got! How your hair grows! Not this money trap mainstreem media is trying to put you in. It is a money trap!

  • im going back natural and im excited. all these women out here getting offenfded because of this really need to wake up. I have been in tears over my hair and perm and haveing to go to hair dressers who have burned me with perm, burned me with irons. Been nausious after getting perms. I was under the illusion that perm would make my hair easier to deal with, but that is a damn Lie!! There is more info out on how to take care of black hair and new company comming out with products, and now...

  • Minus the touch up&avoiding rain, all things that naturals should do 2, esp. cond.&moisture.Wraps r optional.Satin scarfs r 4 both bcuz n either state hair is fragile&1 wants 2 avoid friction esp. when sleeping, trim ends bcuz the spit can go all the way 2 the root n both rlxed&ntrl.Neither rlxed or ntrl should use pomade bcuz it clogs the roots&ur hair can't grow.

U attract more bees w/honey instead of vinegar.Y not try guiding ppl 2 go natural instead of name calling&bashing those who r rlxed.

  • Y aren't u making vids about ww and their weaves, flat irons, perms, silicone&tans? Not every bw gets their hair flat ironed, weaved, colored&done every 2 weeks whn relaxed. Some of us know how 2 style w/o heat, weave, color. What about naturals that flat iron their hair? Are they ashamed bcuz they want their hair straight?

  • no offense but how did watching boondocks get me to this video

  • Bias! Just because people choose to do what they want with their hair doesn't mean that they are ashamed! thats like saying well since your hair is in a ponytail your ashamed because your pulling it back....wdh! It's nice and cool to be natural, but im very sure that everything about you isn't natural so why is having a perm, relaxer, or weave matter. People do what they want... it's an option i know plenty of people with natural hair that still wear weaves and wigs it's like changing clothes!

  • Thanks for your video and exposing the truth. I don't miss relaxers or weaves. I love touching and feeling my natural hair, its such freedom. Peace and blessings.

  • Hotep. This is a wonderful video. Our hair is our crown and glory and it is a natural antenna and connection to the Universe. When we alter it with man made chemicals we essentially destroy the energy that God gave uniquely to us, thus denying His blessings. Scientists and researchers know this. Wake up black woman.

  • wonderful!!!!!!!! 5 stars. this beautiful exotic dark chocolate Caribbean/west indian girl is keeping it all natural baby!.

  • Im glad I don't get relaxers anymore though, no more scalp burns.

  • I love your vids. Some of those things Im guilty of though. I wear briads because I've been transitioning from permed to natural hair for a year. I didn't want to do the big chop yet. I plan to get my dreads next year but until now I keep it briaded up to promote my hair to grow and until i feel comfortable cutting off more of the permed ends.

  • That after relaxer tips should apply to EVERY women if they want to keep healthy hair. If your not moisturizing, conditioning, shampooing, avoiding heat, trim ends.. then your doing it all wrong

  • i'm so glad u put tis out,the ignorant females that were on the tyra banks show sayin havin white girl hair iz betta than ur natural made me sick, especially the female that said she would neva date a black man cuz she don't want nappy-head children,it's bad enuff we hav 2 deal wit racism but when it's from ur own race iz jus horrible, wut iz also bad iz the women who keep that cycle of self hate goin by forcing that ignoranc on their daughters, disgusting

  • In answer to #3 (saves time and hassle);

my natural hair routine....wash well; 3 min. conditioner; rinse; spray with oil-sheen mixed with glycerine; rub in shea butter leave-in conditioner; fluff; leave to dry.

    How hard is that?!?

(And I only blowdry it if I want to braid it up.)

  • women try to look like everyone else and cover up the very thing that makes them unique

  • but its also good to see more & more black women are wakin up & goin natural everyday. thats why i support the natural women on youtube promotin natural blk hair.

the quicker we stop buyin from them, we'll numb their business. & the blk hair business(that blks never benefit from) will go bankrupt. koreans/whites wont have nothin 2 claim

  • KannDous (

i wanted to rate your comment you made a excellent point and they wont let me rate you with thumbs up.

  • this thing starts so early we dont even notice it. from the dolls we play with, to the images on tv, favorite stars, & the MOM. it starts early. even BLACK dolls have straight hair.

trust & believe celebs do hold the power. they are trendsetters. if all black celebs rocked natural hair, more black girls would grow up liking their hair. if they manufactured black dolls wit kinky hair, more young girls would like it. if MOM has her hair in natural state more black girls would like theirs.

  • I definantly agree with mothers setting an example. My mom made me get perms at a very, very young age. I didn't remember a time when I was a little kid and did not have straight hair. My mom said it was "easier" for her to "deal with". She wasn't thinking of how it shot my self-esteem and was simply painful. I've been natural now since March, and I feel free.

    This is a great video

  • I relax my hair but I do agree with all the "ashamed" parts :) very good points!

My natural hair does make me ashamed sometimes, that is part of the reason I relax I guess...but then having a relaxer makes me ashamed too :-/

I also relax because when I tried to go natural it was more work than I was willing to put into my hair.

  • @SmLKeP I'm very much natural and I agree with your comments. Natural hair is a lot of work. Some of the points in this video are not true. Outside of touchups and other relaxer related treatments, natural hair needs constant care, a constant regimen, and takes up just as much time. And if we go to the salon it takes just as long as if we had a perm. You can look at these natural hair videos and the ones with big pretty nappy hair invested time and money.

  • Damn straight girl!! Natural all the way!! Kinky and soft and damn proud of it! :P

  • AMEN!!!!!

  • I honestly think that black women should at less try to grow their relaxer out. and learn how to style and take care of their natural hair. most got a relaxer at a young age so they don't even know if they would like their natural hair. most don't even know what it looks like.

  • I stopped torturing my hair and scalp (and my psyche) in 2005. After that I eventually wore my hair in an afro (really fluffy, too). March of 2009 I decided to have dreads, so now I have twists, which will become dreads. Other than making sure the twists don't clump together, I don't have to bother with my hair, and my hair is healthier now than it EVER was when I was relaxing it chemically.

  • OMG people seriously shave their heads and then use glue in weaves. If so thats crazy. Ive been natural for about 16 months now. I love my natural texture, and Im embracing it.Your right our society does prize the bone straight long hair, but Im gonna keep fighting, cause being natural is the best thing for me. So much simpler, and my hair has been growing like a weed :) Thanx for the vid. Its inspirational. And if anyone gets offended by it, then maybe their one of the ladies you discussed :P

  • Love this, great vid. It's the principle for me and this is what you covered. You can have healthy hair with a relaxer (I'm relaxed but bcing in like a week) idk with the weaves, I only had braids once in my life. The ashamed thing is on point, if you MUST relax and would rather wear SOMEONE ELSE'S HAIR you're ashamed. 5 stars!

  • Damn, I believe that's stereo typing because not ALL black women do this stuff to their hair!!!

  • Comment removed

  • jagged edge and ashanti put alittle umph in it

  • Ok so, I am 19 I started getting perms when I was 17 and so far my hair has stop shedding, I never put heat in it until I go to the hair dresser, and it's much stronger than before. My hair is much healthier than some of my friends without perms. I think that when I am older I may revert back to perms because long term ,perms are not good for your hair but in my opinion more convenient and healthier for my hair than a hard press. As of now my hair is still long and healthy.

  • wow, you chose to respond to me..hummm well, Winston you'd done good had you stopped with..you are right but Noooo, you had to prove my point by being nasty and typical. rude, negative, nasty and nappy wow what a winning mix....NOT

  • I guess I am ashamed and a fool!!!!

I did my BC and look like a fool and I am scared to go out in public and I have to work Tuesday

  • It's hard not to worry about what others think. It's really like unknown territory to all of us who have had relaxers most of our lives. I am so glad I stopped. Today I flat ironed my hair after only a month and a half of being natural and I hated it. I wet it immediately. I really cannot imagine myself doing that on a regular basis. I love my kinky, nappy, coily, puffy hair :) Stay strong!!!

  • I appreciate your honesty, but I feel you should not be ashamed or scared of what/ who you really are. love your self girl!!

  • wow

  • Comment removed

  • black women are so self-hated it's a BIG SHAME! ...you all should listen to malcom x speech " Who Taught You To Hate Yourself? "

  • You must be very disturbed by women with long healthy relaxed hair. I'm also sorry that you very ashamed of your "nappy" hair (your words not mine). Hopefully you feel better about yourself as a natural!

  • YOUR SUCH A LOSER. WHY ARE YOU SO CONCERNED ABOUT OTHER WOMEN'S HAIR? Being relaxed is a choice...You don't see white women calling each other out if another white woman gets a curly perm! I seriously mean this your a LOSER, its the truth. If your so proud of being black and everything, then you would focus on uplifting other black women instead of accusing of so DUMB stuff. I relax my hair & I'M PROUD 2 B BLACK. How bout you stop being a HATER and go do something better with your time.

  • Are 80-90% of white women getting curly perms? Are white people raising their children to think that something in their DNA, something apart of their body is unmanageable?

Are most white women walking around with jacked up hair?

Until then I dont see the comparison sticking.

Your hair may very well look good too... but the point is most black women in America's hair looks like SHIT. That is why they wear weaves. That is why even their kids are wearing weaves now. And thats the truth.

  • YOUR THE ONE ASHAMED OF BEING BLACK "Ms. most black women in America's hair looks like SHIT"....WTF?! That is so ignorant and racist! Black women with natural hair can look just as bad as black women with relaxed! No more comments for you Hater. Your a disgrace to black women, pleasing the racist people of the world with your stupid antics. I LOVE BEAUTIFUL INTELLIGENT BLACK WOMEN WITH ALL KINDS OF HAIR. As for You, well you may go Bald! GOD Doesn't like Ugly and that's all you are. Peace.

  • How is telling the truth racist?

Burnt crispy relaxed hair is what is true about African American women. If it weren't the case black women wouldn't be all up on Youtube and hair forums trying to do better.

Most black women in the US have hair above their shoulders, breakage at the ends, and continue to use relaxers in spite of it.

Then they cover it up with weaves. Damaged hair is NOT beautiful, regardless of who is wearing it. The sad thing about black women is we refuse to believe it...

  • What about all the youtube videos and forums about caring for natural hair? Bottom line, if you don't take care of your hair be it relaxed or natural, you'll suffer damage.

  • You're missing the point.

Those NATURAL hair videos are there to encourage people to go natural. Because most black women are relaxed. You are more likely to suffer worse damage from having a relaxer. That isn't up for debate since a RELAXER breaks down the hair physically AND chemically.

You have to use a LOT of products and a LOT of maintenance NOT to have damaged hair with a relaxer. Just being natural alone is an upgrade healthwise.

  • VERY TRUE!!! I've been natural for almost 10 years & my hair did experience some damage while natural.

I agree that more should go into promoting healthy hair (regardless if it's natural or chemically treated)

  • By the way, who is pleasing the racist whites?

THe person who keeps buying relaxers from them so that the white women will always have longer, healthier hair than us?

Or the person who is willing to admit that seeing a black woman with her REAL hair that is HEALTHY and not BROKEN OFF from relaxers is NOT common, and it is NOT the case of the majority.

Most black women DO have jacked up hair in America, because they CHOOSE to when they really dont have to.

  • i didnt see ur original comment..but from what i see right here? i wont say most..(even thought the sad truth is that most black women relax their hair,) but i will say ALOT of us black women relax our hair...and it does look like shit..WHEN THEY DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH IT! alot of black women i know have nice looking hair when its relaxed as long as they style it..however i dont like the history behind straightening..

  • ..........hair! ive been natural for almost a year & im LOVING IT. but thats MY personal choice ..& i wish alot more black women would make it their choice.. too if they want long, healthy, REAL hair. i do get pissed off when i tell people i cut my hair to go natural..cause it seems like they accept short RELAXED hair but not short NATURAL hair. shame shame shame.

  • I disagree with one point, when you say that coloring hair other than your own means you're ashamed. Coloring your hair is extremely damaging (espeically if your hair is dark and you have to bleach it a little before adding color). When I want to add deep highlights, I usually get fake (well, human, not synthetic) hair and dye to save my natural hair. Mind you, I get hair that's closest to my natural hair.

  • wonderful video and youre a wonderful woman for speaking the truth!

  • O3O wow, I didn't know people shave off their own hair and glued it of the pics u showed at the end.

  • I turned into a pj after going natural since I'm looking for a great daily moisturizer hence promote growth. I'm still paying less then when I was a relax head with all the chemicals, wigs, weaves, and extensions. For my hair, it just couldn't take it. I do see women who is relaxed have beautiful long hair because they do also use natural ingredients as well. It just seems more work to counteract the break down of the hair after a relaxer.

  • this anti-relaxer and weave video is just as bad as laughing at women with natural hair. what happened to freedom of choice?

  • this video is exaggerating. very biast

  • No it's not.

  • The people getting offended on here are the ones who know in their heart of hearts that this sister is speaking the absolute truth. Everyone who has made the transition from relaxed to natural will tell you that RELAXERS ARE BAD FOR BLACK HAIR!!! I have seen women in their 40's with scalp showing through due to years of relaxing. You may not think you're doing anything wrong now, but just wait. Hello, the same ingredients are in Drano and Neet Hair Remover as in perms.

  • I have seen women with bald spots and broken off hair, but have NEVER used a relaxer or hot comb. If you don't take care of your hair (relaxed or natural) it will get damaged. Just like natural hair, you still need to get: hot oil treatments, trims, deep conditioners, sleep with a scarf, etc.

  • Sister I am loving your vids, and I love my natural locs. Too many of us running around being fake, its time to be real from one that is happy to be nappy!!

  • people are so argumentative on here! she is just posting what she dislikes about non-natural hair and everyone acts like she's personally stabbing them in the heart. and people who try and defend relaxers are just being silly. we've all had them and we all know they make your hair more fragile and likely to break off. so quit fooling yourselves. but if you like them and like maintaining them, then that is your thing and more power to you!

  • lol @ 2:47 i agree

  • Everyone posting something negative about women with relaxed hair are so funny. Not everyone here is negative and I respect that, but I do not respect people talking about, "Thank God I went natural". What the hell does God have to do with you going natural? Give me a damn break. I hate to get irrate, but it gets me mad that we have so many things going against us by being black in general by other races and we're fighting eachother about hair. Get a damn life!

  • Loved it! :)

  • i agree i'm natural now and thank god i am :)

  • Oh, this is so redicilous....

Why cant we all just get along!..?

  • Also...to tell women to be ashamed of the way they handle their hair regimens is ridiculous! Maintenance of a black woman's hair can be easy and difficult in many aspects. Handling the natural state of our hair isn't a piece of cake either, if you really want to make comparisons. People will have their opinions about hair care and then there's the truth...often times, people prefer to believe the former. But to ridicule others for and to generalize the way they go about things is foolish.

  • I'm doing my big chop this Friday. I'm not going natural because I want to STICK IT TO THE MAN or because I hate perms, or because I'm rebelling against someone, or because I'm depressed. I'm going natural because I want a change, because I like the way natural hair looks, because I want to learn more about MY natural hair and how to love myself with it. To say that all black women get weaves, and perms because of damaged hair is crazy! There are many women with relaxers that have healthy hair.

  • I just think women want to look good and appeal, I don't think they are ashamed. I personally don't like perms or fakey looking hair. If your weave looks overly fake or if you put in/take out then I don't think that's all that appealing but that's another subject.

  • want to look good and appeal to WHO? that is the bigger question. we live in a society where European ideals persist. I wouldn't go so far as to say "ashamed" but I would say there is a feeling of inferiority tied to black women's natural hair. Straight hair is simply accepted as the norm.

Ever wonder why a separate "ethnic hair product" section even exists? It's because ethnic hair is OUTSIDE of what is considered "normal." Being viewed as "other" is part of the problem.

  • looking good to MYSELF. looking good doesn't automatically equal a europeanized version of cute. Europeans don't even like looking European that's why they mist themselves everyday. I think straight hair is sophisticated/classy. but My husband likes my hair curly. It's not a black/white thing (he's white btw) it's just a personal preference. Sistah's are going natural nowadays, b/c we can. My husband prefers my hair natural, straight sometimes. Maybe blk guys are into straight hair. I dunno.

  • Thank you so much for these videos you are posting. I am not black nor do I have deep skintone but my hair is kinky. I am Dominican and at 10 years old my hair was relaxed for graduation. It has never been passed that length because I have kept with the routine. People tell me that I don't take care of my hair when I stop relaxing for awhile because it gets too thin. My hair has grown so much in the past 4 months. I relaxed it 2 weeks ago and saw all of my hair growth back to square one.

  • If you are NOT? Black where did the "kinky" hair come from? LOL Inquiring minds like to know FYI not all "Black" ppl have deep skin tones (due to slavery/intermixing/etc)

  • the only reason ppl get mad at this vid is beacuse they know that its true!!!great vid!!

  • good vid

  • i actually agree with some points of this, But i also agree wit some of the comments below stating that maybe u could show people that they can achieve a healthy natural head of hair. and i get that u are not trying to knock relaxers only tryin to state your opinion and what u think !

  • I feel u.. your video is good.. ur just stating facts! I'm not knockin relaxed hair but all them chemicals is terrible for ur scalp and body. Educating ur self about product ingredients is important to understanding y its damaging to ur hair.

  • That is so true I had to shave all of my hair off because of relaxers and glue in weave because I am ashamed I,m not going to lie about it anymore? I,m not doing that for me i,m doing it because thats what everyone else around me says is beautiful. In my neighborhood if you walk around nappy headed you got laughed at and thats why I did it I didn,t want to get picked on

  • Listen to yourself, if you're so proud about being natural, why do you use the stereotypical "Nappy" to describe your natural hair. No one is laughing at you, it's all in your head. That's an insecurity issue. I am not trying to offensive, I just feel like you should be proud to wear your hair anyway you feel. It's about how you perceive yourself.

  • i'm natural myself.. but you cannot come up here and tell women with relaxed hair... what you think your doing. Yes, there are a lot of women ashamed... but instead of promoting natural v relaxed debates bow about you try and help educate women on HEALTHY hair no matter what state its in.

  • THIS VIDEO IS GREAT! 'I am not my hair, im just somebody elses!". Priceless!!!!!!!!!

  • i love natural hair im natural ive been natural for almost a yr now and it is so easy to take care of. some bw say that it's hard to comb there hair but thats because when you comb natural hair your not supposed to comb your hair dry! your supposed to use conditioner and then comb your hair, so you wont have any breakage it called detangleing your hair. natural hair is beautiful! i just wish more black women would love there hair.

  • Love their hair? It's about versatility. Not all black women who relax their hair, hate their hair. I have had my hair natural for years, had texurizers, had braids, not because I'm trying to cover up "The Real Me(Natural Hair), but because I like different looks. I love my hair and myself. You guys are taking it to a crazy level. I mean, some women are insecure about hair, weight, what ever. It happens, but you cannot, I repeat, cannot put all black women with perms in one self hating category.

  • Dry natural hair and a brush = Damage

Wet natural hair and a brush = proper care. Part of wearing your hair natural is becoming educated about what works for curly/coily/kinky hair. The best styling toodl for natural hair IMO is your fingers.
