The reality is, racism is a real thing, and as much as we want to wish it away, it can't be done. That being said, don't mistake his point as a matter of either "white hate" or "I want something for free"...that's not what he's saying.

Obviously the emancipation proclamation did not actually free the slaves, since it was issued by the Union but applied to states that were not then under Union control. More than anything it was a political statement designed to keep any European powers from siding with the Confederacy, as no nation wanted to defend the institution of slavery. As to the Seminole Wars being a big reason for the Civil War, hardly. The first shots fired there were in Bleeding Kansas, and fought largely by white abolitionists vs. slave holders.

@SupremekaiD5 Small slave rebellions gave the white abolitionists something to focus on. Rebellions among slaves are endemic, and, as slaves went, the West Africans were fairly passive. Southerners were not clamoring to give up their slaves. As you point out, we're talkin' money.
However, these things did rally the cause in the north, as did people like Harriet Tubman.
But the only thing that stopped slavery was the Civil War. Blacks could never have freed themselves.

West Africans were not "fairly passive" in regard to slavery... they led numerous slave revolts throughout the Americas, including Haiti where they defeated Napoleon's French and regiments from Spain and England. Even in Africa tribes like the Ashanti were known for their fearlessness and war prowess and they fought four wars with the Britian.

Many Gullahs served with distinction in the Union Army's First South Carolina Volunteers. The Sea Islands were the first place in the South where slaves were freed.

Some lived short, brutish lives as outlaws, raiding slave plantations killing whites who were in their way, recruiting blacks. Others farmed and traded, building peaceful relations with Indians, slaves . Intermarriages were common.

Some of this is accurate, much of it is based in reality, but most of it is highly embellished and slanted. Obviously the emancipation proclamation did not actually free the slaves, since it was issued by the Union but applied to states that were not then under Union control. More than anything it was a political statement designed to keep any European powers from siding with the Confederacy, as no nation wanted to defend the institution of slavery. The proclamation added a moral imperative.

However, these things did rally the cause in the north, as did people like Harriet Tubman.
But the only thing that stopped slavery was the Civil War. Blacks could never have freed themselves.

West Africans were not "fairly passive" in regard to slavery... they led numerous slave revolts throughout the Americas, including Haiti where they defeated Napoleon's French and regiments from Spain and England. Even in Africa tribes like the Ashanti were known for their fearlessness and war prowess and they fought four wars with the Britian.

Two hundred blacks were also beaten and killed by white militias and mobs reacting with violence. so who should be afraid?

S army. they attacked the confederate army because they were part of th Union army. and the gullahs werent even in the west as you claim, they were in South Carolina and Georgia. When the U.S. Civil War began, the Union rushed to blockade Confederate shipping. White planters on the Sea Islands, fearing an invasion by the US naval forces, abandoned their plantations and fled to the mainland.

Many Gullahs served with distinction in the Union Army's First South Carolina Volunteers. The Sea Islands were the first place in the South where slaves were freed.

Some lived short, brutish lives as outlaws, raiding slave plantations killing whites who were in their way, recruiting blacks. Others farmed and traded, building peaceful relations with Indians, slaves . Intermarriages were common.
