You can understand Pete being a bit pissed off with Hendrix. The Who had been smashing their equipment for 3 years, and were so poor they as a result that they couldn't afford to take their own amps and other equipment (which is why Pete's guitar and John's bass sound so crappy and feeble compared to what they're usually like.) Hendrix took his own stuff, sounded and played (as usual) amazingly and then stole their act. A bit of a dick move tbh. Still love both The Who and Jimi though.
@darrell7878 Pete adored Jimi, it was a complimentary thing between the two. To say "I'm not gonna follow you" is like saying "you're so great ... too tough of an act to follow".
@darrell7878 this is 1972/73 and comes from the posthumous film about Hendrix, one of the first to feature talking heads which is the staple of every rock/pop/tv-doc these days.
O.K. I have to be politically correct here: Jimi blew them off the stage. Yes. Oh, never mind Mama Cass's statement about stealing the show. Somebody might learn something. Don't mention anything about history or chronology. It should be revised to bolster downtrodden Jimi's image.
This would have been amazing. The who tearing apart equipment, followed by Jimi doing the fire ritual thing. Freaking awesome. The Who and Jimi ruled that show for sure.
@RLW1967 Townshend admitted quite frequently to feeling inferior to Jimi & Claptons lead playing(& Jeff Beck) ,on several occasions. He wrote such great material, was an equal musician in many other ways to any of them, Im sure he got over it.
I think the bandage is when I windmilled and the wammy stabbed his hand. LOL but he kept playing.

Pete's feelings about Hendrix are ambivalent at best and duplicitous at worst.

@darrell7878 My guess is sometime around 1972; the Jimi Hendrix documentary was released in 1973.
