first of all, they have the same horsepower, the difference is that the formulas to calculate horsepower changed and the 2005 corolla xrs "brought" 170 horspower, but its still 180. Why is it that you take a corolla xrs to the dyno and gives 164 through 166 whp and you take the celica gts and matrix xrs and they produce 164-166 whp? andswer me that?
The formulas changed, but so did the tune on the Corolla/Matrix XRS as opposed to the Celica GTS. The GTS has a sportier tune. Which gave it that 180 horsepower. The Corolla/Matrix has an economy tune.
yeah I know, but, the celica gts still produces the same amount as the corolla and the matrix xrs. So its basically the same. The only reason that the celica gts ( year 2000 exclusevly) races better its because of its lift point in which it hits lift @ 6000 rpm and revs up to 8400 and it weights 2500 lbs. You can race a corolla Xrs and a matrix xrs 2003( which hits lift @ 6200 rpm +/-) and you can see an even match cause of the corolla's 6700 rpm lift.

HP wins longer distance races, TORQUE wins fast races.. a celica would lose to a tib in a 1/4 race because it only has like 130tq, by the time he caught up the tiburons 190tq the tib would already be pretty far ahead...

i had an 05 optima.bought it new.had lots of problems.you need a 100k warranty bumper to bumper instead of powertrain only.any powertrain usually lasts 100k.its the other stuff that tears up earlier.

no, you're dumb, mugpunx ,1. you can't spell "you're" you said your, learn the english language dipshit, and 2. just because a tiburon has 190tq doesn't mean it's faster, the tib weighs about 3,040lb(because of that v6), and the corolla(judging by year)2670lb.. and the torque is still close even when the xrs has a 4 cylinder (2.4l)... so weight is a huge factor. if the tib weighed less it would have a better chance.

HP wins longer distance races, TORQUE wins fast races.. a celica would lose to a tib in a 1/4 race because it only has like 130tq, by the time he caught up the tiburons 190tq the tib would already be pretty far ahead...
and it sounds like these guys cant drive stick, sounds like they arent pushing it, switching gears too early.

From what I understand the gearing ratios, as close as they are, will ALWAYS force the car (unmodded) to under 6700rpm, where lift comes in.
It's not the driver, it's the car (transmission).
