He grew to love Alba for the person she was but he wasn't in love or in lust with her. By kissing her, he was just letting her know that he understood her and that in another life, if he wasn't gay, he would love her because they had a connection. That's how I took it anyway.
And the reason there are so many English comments is that this movie is now on Netflix.
I really enjoyed this movie. Acting, direction, staging and the plot were all good. I am Italian myself and usually my judgments are extremely severe with Italian comedies, which used to suck really. Lately, there have been some of great quality - this one and "Welcome to the South" being my favourite.
@bettyfromuk Exactly!!! It's just that the Italians etting is so much different, the actors are very talented and although most of the "gags" are basically the same the is a different "rhytm" (I don't know if you know what I mean). I say this out of any nazionalism, as I actually love the French cinema. It's just that in this specific case I think the Italian remake did a better job than the original French. And, I repeat, that's such a rare thing in my opinion!
Is the man marrying grandma is gay? Is the man holding a hand with grandma is a gay? or Are two men brothers? I had no subtitle so I couldn't understand well.
@hellopororo Both brothers are gay. The younger brother told his older brother that he was coming out at dinner and then the older brother did it first.
I liked this movie, but I hated what it represented, No gay man would end up falling in love/lust with a woman. It's not happening! Being gay, for a man especially, is a totally different mindset. This movie basically gave the homophobes another reason to believe that being gay is a choice, and if a gay man really wanted to, he could fall in love with a woman. Bullshit. This movie wouldn't work in the states because GLAAD and all the gays would be against it.
A movie like this wouldn't work in America due to so many plot holes and randomness. I have so many questions. Why didn't Tommaso tell his family he was gay? Why did he have that thing with Alba? I understand that the grandmother was in love with the brother in love, but I don't understand why that made for such a big story line or ending? I mean, they could have left that out of the movie.
@LVishere 1- he actually say it in the trailer..... he can't as the father already had an heart attack with the first coming out, so he didn't to not to give his family another shock; 2 - he understood she was in love with him, and in a tenderness moment he decided to give her that... where's the big deal? he didn't care, she didn't too...only you. LOL 3 -
4 thats the main point of the story, the grandma understand and comprehend the homosexuality of her nephews more than anyone else in the family as she herself was once in love with a gay man, like the girl with Tommaso. 5 - I think the story of the young grandmother and the grandmother herself are the best part of this movie.... :) probably the Italian way of thinking is just too different from yours :P dunnow lol, I'm Italian bytheway
@Vehjemaru I understand all of that, but why didn't they say that the brother in law was gay? Why didn't Tommaso tell his mother and father he was gay? Why did Tommaso basically lead Alba on? It was just so weird, but good, though.
@Vehjemaru Where in the film was it implied that Niccola was gay?? And was it also suggested that la nonna had accidentally shot him? I watched this in my film class with subtitles and I have trouble understanding spoken Italian so sorry if it was obvious and I didn't catch it! DX
@TruFantasee lol man!!! he says it in this trailer!!! minute 0:21 !!! and sorry i dont remember granma shooting anybody, i probably gotta see it again :) but is it that important? i think as i remeber she missed... but not nicola... though.. what movie did you watch!!! :)
It's fine but I was curious if it was supposed to be a figment of La Nonna's imagination like Davide/Simone in "La finestra di fronte", as they are by the same director.
SLUT ... WHORE ... this movie is wonderful ... and so is the song " 50 000 lacrime" of nina zilli ( 50 000 teardrops ) ... Great DVD and CD from Nina ... LUVVVV IT
@garciawr2 His grandma was in love with her husband's brother, but never said a word before and after the marriage. It was an impossible love, such as the one the young girl feels towards the main character. After seeing her two grandchildren fighting for their happiness -despite what everyone wanted them to do and be- she decides to eat all the sweets she wants (this is the only wish she can fulfil at that age); she eats sweets although she had diabetes, and everyone had forbidden her.
@AmberFur I think she started to eat sweets to suicide herself in a sweet way, in order to reach the unmarried love and join him without waiting or waisting life anymore ... this movie is one of the best Italian movie of ever .... LUVVVV ITTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT ... The actress (Romina) is very charming ...by the way !
I saw this movie at a cinema in Sweden some days ago. When I got out in the snowstorm and -18 degrees I got disappointed because the movie was so good I could feel the warmth from Italy. Haha this sound very cheesy but SEE the movie! It's really good and funny!
Just seen this film tonight, wow such an entertaining film loved it, will definitely recommend, sorry it did not a general release here in Ireland, well done all involved what cinema is all about telling stories and this one is so well told.
@Misssimpe Tu peux acheter le dvd sur le site web ibs . it Le film est vraiment magnifique et super amusant ... j'ai acheté le dvd et je l'ai déjà vu deux fois cet année ... C'est trop amusant ...
