Dionne Warwick is giving a concert in aid of The Hunger Project on January 9th, 2011 at The Apollo Victoria Theatre in London in celebration of World Hunger Day. Empowering People. Ending Hunger. The concert is entitled Dionne Warwick and Friends and will be a wonderful evening in song. For more details please type World Hunger Day into youtube. We hope we can count on your support and look forward to seeing you there. Spread the word by clicking the share or like buttons above. Thank you.
She is joking. Dionne absolutely loves the Gibbs, and she has stated that fact on many occasions throughout the years. She used to tell a similar story and have fun at the expense of Cher regarding the song "Alfie." I guarantee you that Dionne means no disrespect. She is simply having a good time. She is obviously NOT serious, as she had very few million selling singles up to that point in her career......let alone 6 million single sales. IT IS A JOKE. Lighten up. Clay
Brava DIONNE! I will always remember the concert at the PARK WEST which I watched when aired on WTTW channel 11 here in Chicago in 1980-loved it! And I tuned in every week to watch SOLID GOLD on WGN 9 too.
I love Dionne. Her voice is unique. Choppy and crackly, which sounds like a criticism but it isn't. Somehow it works. The outfit is rather chic but a better choice for a daytime performance. Why does Diana Ross get all the blame for being a diva? Dionne is is off the deep end with it. Her comments about being able to sell more copies than Andy Gibb are so transparent. She all but said she's more talented than him. Actually she runs her mouth a lot. Still a great talent.
If you had a quarter of the voice Dionne Warwick does THEN and ONLY THEN would I respect your opinion.
She plays so many different roles "musically" Funky, soul, gospel, pop etc. BTW, if you actually knew Dionne Warwick, she is one of the most humble artists I've ever met. She is also a UN ambassador etc. I think you get my gist.
I am not doubting her core goodness. But I have read evidence of a prickly streak. In the 80s she complained in print about George Michael getting a soul music award because he was white. In David Nathan's "Soul Diva" book, the author thought DW had named her company after the initials of her housekeeper. D responded in disbelief, as if she would never give a servant such credit. She also sarcastically suggested Diana Ross wanted to kill her when all Ross did was visit DW in the hospital.
Well, if any one of us were put under an intense magnifying glass, the littlest infractions could be blown up to demonize us. And, about George Michael getting a Soul Music award...black people have a right to be protective of a genre whose roots, gospel and rhythm and blues, were theirs in good times and bad. I'm not saying GM is guilty of anything, but I don't think it's unreasonable for Dionne to react that way, either. Just my own thoughts.
actually, David Nathan thought Dionne's KMBA company might have included the initials of Marie Byars, her assistant. Dionne was incredulous as the acronym really stands for "Kiss My Black Ass." David thought it was funny.
@pnyc1969 LMAO! Your comment is very funny. Frankly, the only person I think Diana ever wanted to kill was Mary WIlson. Dionne was probably high at the time and suffering from paranoia.

I've watched this performacne many times and I think Dionne may have been puffing on the wacky weed shortly before taking the stage. Check out her eyes. And, she's acting odd...or should I say, odder than usual. Still, a great rendition of a greater song!
WOW. this is great! i was about to turn it off before the last half started and it really is inspired! that and the whole clip shows a totally different side of dionne. what a talented lady.
Its nice to see the great Darlene Love sing along with Dionne. I read Darlene's autobiography and she recalls some interesting experiences with Dionne...love that book!
I've seen Dionne yonx number of times in shows boy is she gifted, TRULY SPECIAL in her ARTISTRY AND A TRUE GIVER , PRAISE BE TO DIONNE , oh and what soul in this performance Dionne no question should grace The Hall of Fame no one has deserved it more. Wake up now is the time !!!
what is the actual site where i can purchase this and other dionne concerts. got 2. one at jubilee theatre and the 1983 one with what you won't do for love.
Quite apart from the greatness of this performer and of this performance: it ought to be noted just how wonderful this song is, and how great a tunesmith was Andy Gibb. Check out his version of this and his "Shadow Dancing." We lost him far, far too young.
Yes, fom Live At the Forum. The original tapes are certainly gathering dust in some archive. I'm hoping some savvy video producer will compile some of these great performances of Dionne through the years into a double DVD (with commentary by Dionne herself, friends, others) so I can enjoy Dionne at top digital quality at my leisure. I'd like the same of Nancy, Mathis, Gladys, EW&F, StevieWonder, and others.
How interesting. I loved it! Was this from that famous Live at the Forum concert. I have never seen it before and have tried to get it off eBay but have been unlucky so far.
thanks so much for the surprise footage!! Never seen this before when was this!!! Dionne can turn the heat up and bring it down smoothly whenever and however, she wants. I luv those golden vocal Pipes!!!
Burt Bacharach and Hal David have both said in numerous interviews that Dionne Warwick could "turn the heat up" in a song whenever she wanted. I've never seen this performance of the song, but I've seen Warwick in concert performing it. She never does a song the same way--her performances were always fresh and crisp! Really she should have been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame over a Decade ago. How Dare they overlook Dionne!
I agree Lamonad with everything u say here!!! Dionne is the greatest of the greatest no matter who her predecessors are, no matter who is in her era, no matter who has come after her!!! Her music and her voice is top dog!!! and she does not get the recognition that is deserved and well overdue!!!

Love Dionne! Her voice is paralleled only by a few. I have seen her live at least
10 times, and am always grateful. Her humor though, often is misunderstood. So dry.
