The guitars are excellent on this song but the choruses are cheesy and Gene is offkey at points in the song which really hurt it...it sounds more like a song from it's era than a timeless one that holds up today, definitely could have been done better -

@DiabloArcade I have The Elder! LOVE IT! HATED IT when I first got the ALBUM back in '81. Chunked it like a frisbee!!! Now I appreciate it so much! Was listening to it this morning. The Oath is FANTASTIC! The writing is just phenomenal! If ever there was a time to film the movie, it would be now-a-days. Call up Peter Jackson!

Why is this album so under-rated? For me, I'd regard this album as the second best KISS album without makeup. This album, and Revenge, are both statements of what KISS is capable to do in terms of music, when they aren't trying to be their own Wal Mart (Mr. Simmons) because Hot in the Shade and Revenge are two ass-kicking albums! If they could find a way to blend the two, (they did in the 70s and with Sonic Boom) they'd be THE greatest band in the world.

I'd give it a three, and would say that it isn't their second best off-make-up album, in my opinion the list goes: Lick It Up, Revenge, Carnival of Souls, Animalize, Crazy Nights, Hot in the Shade, Asylum

Eric's drumming is amazing! I loved Eric Carr so much. I must admit though this is not one of Kiss' best albums nor one of my favorites. But I still find myself listening to it whenever I'm bored. But I like this song!
