I have this Synth and MIDI -> USB cable didn't work . I also found out that to install new sounds it need Windows98 is that true ?

Know nothing about MIDI -> USB because haven't gotten one yet.

And Windows98 to install sounds? What century is your country in? Computers are being sold with Windows 7 now a days. But of course, Win7 won't allow much without approval with MS. Just get Win2k or XP, download or record sounds, and stuff them in any folder you please.

Because the Software which allows to install new sounds only supports windows 98 (and maybe XP) (CS1X Edit) .

Of course I am am using Vista now but the Cs1X synth came uit in '97 ,so a long time ago before Windows XP and Vista.Tried everything but there was no reaction from the PC when i connected the synth,tried all drivers.

@czolgista999 if you're still searching, the "dedicated" patch editors for PC are not worth anything actually (it's just the same buttons as you have on the CS1x). However, you can send and receive MIDI messages using tools like SendSX. That way, you can also send and receive patches (if you have them as raw midi data).

Sorry. Too old for this modern thing you call USB. It connects via classic MIDI ports, 5-pin DIN. Also an 8-pin "To Host" port, but have no idea what that is. Google should have more details.

Does synthesiser produce normal sounds like piano and strings, as well as all those crazy synth sounds? I'm thinking of buying one and I need something that can do those things as well as all the synth stuff.

Yes. Some synths don't, others try, and others do it perfectly. Just one note, though. Pedals are sold seperately. ;)

i have a CS1X aswell, but the piano's don't sound as good as the Kurzweil's or more expensive Yamaha Synths like the Motif XS.

My advice is save up some cash and go for a Yamaha Motif or Kurzweil PC3.
