We have the technology to fix this.... The micro organisms that live in the soil at the older local gas stations have already evolved to live in toxic oil conditions. So, these organisms can be modified to, in laymen terms, eat the oil. Seemingly, this 40yr+ old technology may not have been completed owing to lack of funding. The current LMRP Cap is not working. Two thirds of the oil is still escaping into the Gulf. The sooner we recognize the failure the sooner we can move on to a better solution. There should be dozens of LMRP Cap designs in process with the best designs being candidates for consideration as a replacement. I can’t understand why we are waiting. If BP had a solution they would have the well sealed by now.

Well I am not sure a nuke would solve anything but I can see that it might seal the hole due to the heat, or it might just ignite the entire pocket of oil and gas. @VitaVeritasVictoria I think the situation is far more dire than we know.The pressure of the oil coming out, combined with all of the gases cannot be capped so easily. In fact, doing so could cause it to explode. After all, it was probably the gas and pressure that blew the rig to begin with. If the sea floor fractures and the water drops down into that hot chamber, then it will be an explosion like a super volcano. This very well could be an extinction level event.

We have the technology to fix this.... The micro organisms that live in the soil at the older local gas stations have already evolved to live in toxic oil conditions. So, these organisms can be modified to, in laymen terms, eat the oil. Seemingly, this 40yr+ old technology may not have been completed owing to lack of funding. Mindbogglingly BP was more concerned with world enslavement while stuffing their own pockets with our resources. this could wipe the entire eastern seaboard. plz pray

The current LMRP Cap is not working. Two thirds of the oil is still escaping into the Gulf. The sooner we recognize the failure the sooner we can move on to a better solution. There should be dozens of LMRP Cap designs in process with the best designs being candidates for consideration as a replacement. I can’t understand why we are waiting. If BP had a solution they would have the well sealed by now.

Well I am not sure a nuke would solve anything but I can see that it might seal the hole due to the heat, or it might just ignite the entire pocket of oil and gas. You might want to play with matches next to a gas leak in a pool of gasoline but leave me outa that one. There are 2 issues here in the immediate future.

We need to build a lot of thermal storage to store the heat of sunlight on top of solar cell technology. In fact, doing so could cause it to explode. After all, it was probably the gas and pressure that blew the rig to begin with. If the sea floor fractures and the water drops down into that hot chamber, then it will be an explosion like a super volcano. This very well could be an extinction level event.

The states need to do what Arizona has done and pick up the governments slack. I don't care who is at fault, the governments FIRST commitment is to the states. It's their responsibility to clean the mess up then go after who is at fault. What if it was a forest fire, would they just let it burn? The states need to purchase MOP Maximum Oil Pickup, and soak the oil up and get it out of there. MOP is the cheapest and most effective way to remove oil from water. Do a search on youtube for MOP.

Thank you all of the "regulators" asleep at the wheel and those that required no deep water catastrophe plan. It probably interfered with your travel and party plans with your oil company buddies. Inasmuch as Brit Hume stated last Sunday on Fox that the oil spill was no big deal, I was wondering if Fox would question him about this on this Sunday's show now that oil is on the coast of Louisiana & headed toward Florida

Today they only broadcast entertainment and Republican (lets say) content.
I wouldn't even trust their weather forecast anymore.
Unfortunately many people starting to question Fox as a news network way to late. And other news networks don't dare to challenge Fox, because they fear their own methods could be questioned as well.

@JOS3EMMANUEL We have to be fair: The safety record of offshore drilling in the US has been very good, BUT BP is not as careful as some of the other big oil companies, and there is no margin for error---even one blowout like this could cripple a company, so the risk/reward calculations will have to be redone.

@bboucharde Umm no, the safety record of offshore drilling is not very good, some of the largest spills in history came from offshore drilling rigs like the Ixtoc I oil well disaster in 1979 which dumped 3.5 million barrels of oil into the Gulf and was the 2nd largest oil spill in history.

@alienofwar Well, even one or two blowouts in 31 years in the Gulf are terrible. However, there are about 4,000 platforms with approx 32,000 wells in the Gulf of Mexico, so the record, statistically speaking, is good. Thousands of workers in the oil industry work hard to avoid accidents like this. So, I guess we can argue about semantics. Airlliners crash, tires fail, & trains derail, too.

Huge public relations nightmare for BP---Folks who hold BP shares keep arguing that the company will recover from this, like Exxon did after Valdez in 1989, by stringing out the legal challenges for 20 years, with endless appeals. But this time may be different. There is a vast body of entities that are planning for a knockout punch to this company, though it will have many assets to sell off. It may survive as a smaller company or with a different name.

I think something is fishy about the whole thing. Why aren't there any survivors? What caused all this? Experts say that there is more to this than just an explosion. I wonder if this was terrorist related. The world has become more chaotic. We need to stick together as a country. If we don't drill more oil ourselves then we need to cut back on consumption. We are asking for trouble if we continue to get oil from other countries
