This song should be favorited by everyone on the planet. Definition of classic. Remember seeing the 2000 show in Sturgis, wish I was at this show now.
I wonder if they ever know that 38 years from now, some guy that wasn't even born then would be searching for this song on youtube? Probably not, there was no internet then.....lol
i alway's thought that eventhough this peice that they wrote here was not a jazz song in itself , i alway's felt that because of the influences of what toy and them was listening too at the time had a rather strong impact on their overall sound .
you know , and they was listening to alot jazz , sax players and stuff , and i believe it set them in a certain place and a certain feel for executing a song such as this !
In loving memory of Toy, who left us way too early 18 years ago tomorrow. His widow, Abbie, is one of my dearest friends....thank you, Toy, for the enduring music you and Tommy and the original MTB left us. And thank you, Abbie, for keeping his legacy alive with grace and respect. There are some that have not chosen to to that.
Speaking of this great ol' classic song, you have GOT TO SEE a cover of it by a band out of Arizona called "Crimson Storm". Just search "Crimson Storm Cant you see". Check it out!....Ive been a fan of this song my entire life, and i never thought i could ever love that song more. I was wrong. You have GOT To hear this!!!!!!!!!
WHO DISLIKED THIS ,,,,,WE ALL KNOW WHAT YOU GOT FOR BRAINS ,,,,,,,,PLUS A LIL EXLAX MIXED IN THERE TOO,,,,,,, GRETINGS FROM THE PROMISED LAND ,,,,,GEORGIA
A Brilliant Soul/Blues/Country/Rock construct. And in addition to that, 'Can't You See?" is a master piece of music. And the best part of this, was that this song played on every station. Blues stations (FM) played it, Soul stations, Country station, POP 40 and Rock stations played it.... from the Coast line of California, to Montana, Louisiana, to Maine, and back down to Florida... this song hits the human heart, especially a heart that has felt the pain of rejection..... Brilliant.
Love the flute at the intro/outro. The most mileage anyone ever got out of D-C and G. When the ensemble kicks in singing on the chorus in harmony, every guy who has ever been shot down (make that all of us) just has to sing along.
This is an all time classic, so many men can relate to being made to feel just like this song says. I know about every man who has ever really lost his first real love, to a girl who done him wrong can. the lead just cry's the blues. a simple song, but it's perfect. a true timeless classic. Marshal Tucker has many good songs, but this one has stamped history in Southern Rock forever!!!
Im 33 years old and this song was written before I was born. Its still one of the best songs I've ever heard. So much better than the junk thats released as 'music' these days..
I didn't know he'd done two tours, and was hoping to find out what unit he was with, thanks for the info, this guy died too young and his guitar work is an inspiration to me. I think the music today hardly rates the name.
@jakehinman indeed, how many good bands like this are getting left out in the cold by shows like "american idol" Do you think Simon could even tolerate something like this.
@TheSpliffmon Toy was in a helicopter that got shot down in nam. Whether that was during his first or second tour to vietnam i'm not sure but if thats the wound your talking about its the only one i can think of.
I was at this show. (See my earlier post about some details). What a thrill it must have been for Toy and Tommy to stand side-by-side with their bandmates and thrill millions. RIP Toy, Tommy, and Timmy. MTB was THE BEST! Thank you again Scotiadave!
I've played hardcore lead & slide southern rock guitar for years upon years now and Toy Caldwell(along with Dickey Betts) is really the only influences I ever had.Toy was the very TOP of the food chain imho in the soul department and the MTB has been just a cheesey ,piss poor, cover playing bar band since the day he left.....MTB should have shut it down when he did.....R.I.P. Toy was my hero when I was a young guitarist...dressed like him tried to play like him no pick! combed my hair like him...shit this guy is still my hero! what an inspiration...vietnam vet, an American Icon
Raising my PBR to this right now....with tear filled eyes!!!! MTB always gets this old Carolina boy right in the heart!!! God Bless Toy, Tommy, George, Gerry, Paul, and Doug. Six guys jamming like no six ever would again!!!!
I was at this show. It was filmed in the Spring of 1973 at The Grand Opera House in Macon, GA for a Don Kirshner episode featuring The Allman Brothers, Wet Willie, Martin Mull (yes, the comedian), and the then unheard-of Marshall Tucker Band. MTB was sooooo young, and sooooo good! In the early part of this video, there is a good shot of Jimmie Hall in the audience. Of course, he was the singer/harmonica player for Wet Willie, and is now with Hank Williams Jr's 'Bama Band. Thank you so much!
Man u r a lucky guy..to be present for that show...1973..huh??? Not trying to be funny..but, do u remember any thing??? Because,, if i was there...i would'nt!!!! LOL.
I first heard of them back in early 70's while trekking in the himalayas and tibet region. I also heard of Lynrd Skynyrd and jethro tull as well during those days of hashish smoking. What a wonderful group and memories. Now I am living in USA and dying for those days again.
holy shit!! i saw them front for Charlie Daniels and Lynyrd Skynyrd in 1972. But they were all wearing hats on that tour. What a blast. But, this song captured my heart. It's still the one of my favorites of all time.
Wow! Whoaaaa! And Wow again! Amazing voice! Too bad they're are none like him around anymore! Why didn't i marry this artist? Where was i hidin when he sang this song?
Many thanks for this video, Scotiadave. This song is an absolutely magnificent work of art. Can't think of anything composed since the 1980s that even comes close to touching it.

Scotiadave, I have to thank you for this video. I've watched it every day (more than once) since I discovered it here on youtube about a month ago. I love this video so much. This is positively the best version of this song out there. Awesome. Thanks again Dave.
No glitz, no glamour, just a group of talented young musicians and a great songwriter doing what they clearly loved best: delivering a timeless classic THEIR way. Say no more.
Brings memories as a child growing up in the 70's. I am 36 yrs old and love hearing this when driving my 71 Dodge Charger down the highway. Problems of life instantly gone. Yes, I can see!
Don't forget Leslie Buckingham... Please tell me, what happened to Troy I'm 58 yrs yesterday, & I played with a famous group, but, don't know what happened to Troy... ANYONE ?
You could put Toy Caldwell in any band, from any era, close your eyes, and his sound would be instantly recognizable. The tone that he got, regardless of the guitar he played at any given time, was just amazing! So much great music from that time! We miss you Toy!
My favorite song of all time. What an experience, everytime.

Brings memories as a child growing up in the 70's. I am 36 yrs old and love hearing this when driving my 71 Dodge Charger down the highway. Problems of life instantly gone. Yes, I can see!

Do you mean Lindsey Buckingham from Fleetwood Mac? And are you talking about Toy Caldwell from The Marshall Tucker Band?

You could put Toy Caldwell in any band, from any era, close your eyes, and his sound would be instantly recognizable. The tone that he got, regardless of the guitar he played at any given time, was just amazing! So much great music from that time! We miss you Toy!
