  • My favorite song of all time. What an experience, everytime.

  • This is my 2nd Favorite song of all time!!! Only 2nd to "Sweet Child" by GNR

  • kids don't know what they are missing-wether it was country or 'pop' etc, sometimes these people actually had to have talent to sound good!

Too uch electronics now---can make anyone 'sound good'...blah!

  • I'm a 4X son of the SOUTH....

My People are in Lexington Co. South Carolina.

Everytime I hear some fool run down my Beloved SOUTH...

I quickly point them to my brothers from Spartanberg here.

I'm so very proud and grateful too them. Hell I was born in 71.

They are the first tunes to hit my ears. God bless us..

Thanks for setting the tone of our lives boys!!

  • This song should be favorited by everyone on the planet. Definition of classic. Remember seeing the 2000 show in Sturgis, wish I was at this show now.

  • Jimmy Hall of Wet Willie is shown at 0:13-0:15.

  • there are 3 people who's train has gone off the track.

  • I wonder if they ever know that 38 years from now, some guy that wasn't even born then would be searching for this song on youtube? Probably not, there was no internet then.....lol

  • i alway's thought that eventhough this peice that they wrote here was not a jazz song in itself , i alway's felt that because of the influences of what toy and them was listening too at the time had a rather strong impact on their overall sound .

you know , and they was listening to alot jazz , sax players and stuff , and i believe it set them in a certain place and a certain feel for executing a song such as this !

  • I love the harmoney in this version. Something about this song just speaks to me...

  • they were such young'uns.....I'm from Spartanburg, and they are still making beautiful music.

  • The flute is hauntingly beautiful, and the guitar strumming is rhythmically captivating.

    mrb

  • still not in the hall of fame?

  • @goldsmithstudent... Was it? Don't remember much of anything except the music... ;)

  • No posing here. Coming right from the heart!

  • Thank you MTB you have always been there for me enough said

  • They sounded awesome in this live performance as always. You don't hear enough of them on the radio anymore.

  • RIP and God Bless all three of the Caldwell bros.

    Gone way too soon.

  • In loving memory of Toy, who left us way too early 18 years ago tomorrow. His widow, Abbie, is one of my dearest friends....thank you, Toy, for the enduring music you and Tommy and the original MTB left us. And thank you, Abbie, for keeping his legacy alive with grace and respect. There are some that have not chosen to to that.

  • Best live song I have ever seen.

  • Where was this recorded at? Saw them In Atlanta Ga in 73 and it was an awesome weekend.

  • @lindan96 Macon Ga

  • @goldsmithstudent The Omni In Atlanta has secrets....

  • @lindan96 The Omni in Atlanta has secrets...

  • Eat these videos up people cause we ain't never gonna see or hear the likes of such talent again!!! DAMN the shit they put out today!!!

  • now thats music

  • WHO DISLIKED THIS ,,,,,WE ALL KNOW WHAT YOU GOT FOR BRAINS ,,,,,,,,PLUS A LIL EXLAX MIXED IN THERE TOO,,,,,,, GRETINGS FROM THE PROMISED LAND ,,,,,GEORGIA

  • WHO DISLIKED THIS ,,,,,WE ALL KNOW WHAT YOU GOT FOR BRAINS ,,,,,,,,PLUS A LIL EXLAX MIXED IN THERE TOO

  • Sure makes a displaced southerner in Wisconsin feel at home. Southern rock from The Promised Land handed down by the Lord himself!

  • Vietnam vet, true Southern rocker, and an American bad ass for sure! Rest in Peace Toy.

  • You can bring me serenata anytime!!!! Amazing voice!!

  • A Brilliant Soul/Blues/Country/Rock construct. And in addition to that, 'Can't You See?" is a master piece of music. And the best part of this, was that this song played on every station. Blues stations (FM) played it, Soul stations, Country station, POP 40 and Rock stations played it.... from the Coast line of California, to Montana, Louisiana, to Maine, and back down to Florida... this song hits the human heart, especially a heart that has felt the pain of rejection..... Brilliant.

  • Love the flute at the intro/outro. The most mileage anyone ever got out of D-C and G. When the ensemble kicks in singing on the chorus in harmony, every guy who has ever been shot down (make that all of us) just has to sing along.

  • to Cool! Gives me the shakes! The weed was better then!

  • mark farner is grand funk

  • I can feel that FLUTE it speaks to me Nothing else like it Absolutely blows me away

  • At 0:11 Jimmy Hall (WET WILLIE) can be seen standing and calling out.

  • Jimmy Hall (WET WILLIE) is standing and yelling.

  • Don't you dare give a pick to this man

  • still not in the RRHF? WTF?

  • They don't sing 'em like this anymore. Pure magic. Thanks for the post...wow!!

  • 名曲だぁね☆

  • I didn't know he'd done two tours, and was hoping to find out what unit he was with, thanks for the info, this guy died too young and his guitar work is an inspiration to me. I think the music today hardly rates the name.

  • In a word ... IMPRESSIVE

  • excellent! thanks Scotiadave.

  • Back when fame was earned and generally based on raw talent. Bring it back!

  • Amen. Fame was not one on some tv show.

  • @jakehinman indeed, how many good bands like this are getting left out in the cold by shows like "american idol" Do you think Simon could even tolerate something like this.

  • @jakehinman 2 People seem to think they can see.... hmmmm.... must be close to death or something

  • this song bought a tear to my eye

  • the story is Toy was wounded as a Marine serving in the 'Nam, 67'or 68'. I am trying to find out what unit he was with. All due respect, thanks.

  • @TheSpliffmon Toy was in a helicopter that got shot down in nam. Whether that was during his first or second tour to vietnam i'm not sure but if thats the wound your talking about its the only one i can think of.

  • yo where would i find this movie i would love to have this on DVD

  • Did i see wet willie in the crowd?

  • @goldsmithstudent looks like jimmy hall to me too...must be

  • thanks so much one of my fav songs and a great concert caught on tape ..so cool

  • mmm love the flute

  • for people who didn't know both caldwell brothers bass and guitar played with thumbs

  • people have no idea much talent it took to play that great with their thumb style.

  • I still cant believe they are gone-along with Ronnie-Steve-Hughie-Duane Roland-Leon-Danny Joe-Allen-Jackson Spires- im gettin to old.

  • i love the the expression on Toy's face the whole time. its like no expression but so much passion

  • This is Music at its best-my god-

  • Why does this only have 46,000 views.

It should have over 1 million views. This is the best footage of the Tucker Boys I have ever seen.

    Rest in peace boys.

  • @cjc921.

    ABSOLUTELY DUDE!!!

  • Man I missed out on some awesome music, sucks I was born in '89 :(

  • WOW!! That is GREAT! MTB rocks!

  • I was at this show. (See my earlier post about some details). What a thrill it must have been for Toy and Tommy to stand side-by-side with their bandmates and thrill millions. RIP Toy, Tommy, and Timmy. MTB was THE BEST! Thank you again Scotiadave!

  • toy rippin' that les paul a new one ain't he?

you have got to have some bluesy-soul to write and play that...and sing it too, wow!

the man has to be respected n given his just due...southern rocker down to his core...inside out.

  • @cityslick007

I've played hardcore lead & slide southern rock guitar for years upon years now and Toy Caldwell(along with Dickey Betts) is really the only influences I ever had.Toy was the very TOP of the food chain imho in the soul department and the MTB has been just a cheesey ,piss poor, cover playing bar band since the day he left.....MTB should have shut it down when he did.....R.I.P. Toy & Tommy.

  • @cityslick007

thumb pickin at that.! people may think thumbin is easy but it takes some skill. that boy good

  • @cityslick007 Yes indeed, Toy for damn sure teaches class here. And also wrote it, brilliant!

  • if you don't like this tune you can kiss my rebel ass!

  • AMEN

  • This version has the most feeling and tear jerking blues I ever heard. Those Spartanburg boys are incomparable.

  • Possibly the Greatest Southern Rockers of all time.

  • god bless southern rock

  • RIP Toy and Tommy C. Absolutely brilliant.

  • THE REALLY GREAT CLASSIC ROCK era STARTED LATE 1960s THROUGH bout 1979

    great song!

  • Toy Caldwell What a musician

  • -as only the south can produce....

  • How true!

  • I was at this show. It was filmed in the Spring of 1973 at The Grand Opera House in Macon, GA for a Don Kirshner episode featuring The Allman Brothers, Wet Willie, Martin Mull (yes, the comedian), and the then unheard-of Marshall Tucker Band. MTB was sooooo young, and sooooo good! In the early part of this video, there is a good shot of Jimmie Hall in the audience. Of course, he was the singer/harmonica player for Wet Willie, and is now with Hank Williams Jr's 'Bama Band. Thank you so much!

  • Man u r a lucky guy..to be present for that show...1973..huh??? Not trying to be funny..but, do u remember any thing??? Because,, if i was there...i would'nt!!!! LOL.

  • wow, i wish i could of been there , its always nice to hear from people who were! thanks!

  • I first heard of them back in early 70's while trekking in the himalayas and tibet region. I also heard of Lynrd Skynyrd and jethro tull as well during those days of hashish smoking. What a wonderful group and memories. Now I am living in USA and dying for those days again.

  • kinda funny that madonna make it into the rock and roll hall of fame before these guys and stevie ray vaughan. and by funny i mean sad

  • oh my lady now, mean o'l woman. never told me goodbye!

  • I'd sooner see them in the Country Music Hall of Fame. This is more country than anything to be found in the genre today.

  • I am 51 and have lived in Macon,Ga most of my life.I was at this concert which was being recorded live for tv. This was a big thing for us in 70's to have something like that on tv. I still play all my ole southern rock albums of the 70's. You read it right, Albums. What GREAT MEMORIES and GREAT MUSIC came from the south.

  • it is too bad they don't make music like this anymore my band plays this stuff and the crowds just love it rock on toy.

  • You could put Toy Caldwell in any band, from any era, close your eyes, and his sound would be instantly recognizable. The tone that he got, regardless of the guitar he played at any given time, was just amazing! So much great music from that time! We miss you Toy!

  • Wow this is great.....im 65.......I was there.thanks for the memories more mtb ls ab
