I just wrote about Anni Lennox and how I think she is a tremendous singer, and not comparable to anyone - but I did it from my daughters xxlovedrawingsxx name, not knowing that. Well, that's how it is to be an old woman at 42, not knowing the internet very well.:) Love you, Annie!
Annie Lennox is a tremendous singer that I have loved since the age of thirteen. Her voice, her appearance and her songs have indeed given me a lot. I have no other preferances, she's unike and a gift to humanity. I've not listened to music for several years, and I had almost forgotten all that. Then all of a sudden one of her songs came into my ears, and I recalled it all. I really love this woman for what she's doing.
This is the song I was listening to when my first published novel, The Fear Principle, was born. The feel of it curls through the whole book, and it's still a really cool song.
What I think is so unique about her voice is that she can display such strength but also such fragility. There are a lot of singers now who are talented, but the emotional range? I haven't heard anything like Annie.
Completely lost touch (pardon the pun!) with this album, was working in a band in the 80's and we loved this album, the bass player said I had to listen to it, full volumn, with my eyes shut...brilliant album. I had no money at the time, so no luxeries like CD's ahh! So have managed to order myself the CD from Amazon...can't wait for it to arrive...what a treat!!! Kate xx
Fantastic song by the Eurythmics from around 1983/4 time but sadly never released as a single. Despite having a great powerful voice, in my opinion the quality of the material that the Eurythmics released steadily declined from 1984 onwards.
@ShiveCanber This song wasn't released as a single but in Poland was strongly promoted on the radio in spring of 1984 and reached number 1 for two weeks. It's also one of my favourites - reached number 7 in early summer of 1984.
@JUSTINIGHTMARE Hey, just wanted to make sure you knew that Annie still making music. After Diva (which you mention below) she did "Medusa" which received critical acclaim, then did a Eurythmics reunion album called "Peace", then did a re-release of all of the Eurythmics albums for a big boxed set, then came "Bare" in 2003, then "Songs of Mass Destruction" in 2007 and this year has a new Christmas album coming out! If you love her music, go buy them, all of her albums are fantastic!!

Anybody know what this song means? After years of listening i'm wondering if it means living daily life with no feelings...(no "fear" no "hate" no "pain" no "broken hearts")
to this date Its the most astonishing song I have ever heard. Its not only in her gorgeous voice but you can almost feel the incredible despair in the music as well. I am utterly jealous of those who were lucky enough to hear this live. I would have probably wept uncontrollably at a live show
First heard this during a phenomenal Eurythmics concert in Seattle, in the 1980s. Performed live, this was so powerful that I couldn't bring myself to listen to the recorded version for years after. Thank you chtichat, this post reminds me of greatness.
According to a lot of people I spoke, this was the best song on their album 'Touch'.
It was one the main tracks on an various artist album released in favour of Greenpeace in Holland. I don't know if that album was released in other countries.
one od their best songs. 25 years ahead of its' time. it has got something really mysterious in it, it reminds me a bit of George Orwell's novel '1984'....
Annie Lennox is an alien-sent to help us mortals' see how...how to express themselves, how life can transcend the daily procurement of bread-and how one voice can erode the hard-heartedness of a graceless and cheap existance. How's that for a compliment? I had this tape in college and used to look forward to simultaneously skipping class, riding around outside and feeling that the joy I had from the experience of hearing this music, going by people, and exercising trumped a knowledge of x or y
This is definately one of my fav Eurythmics songs. It always reminds of Neil Gaiman's "Destiny". (And just now I realized that the looks of the character Destiny was partly based on Annie Lennox)
Unbelievable song, still sends chills down my spine listening to it now. I always loved Eurythmics, but I probably didn't realize how good their music was till I listen to it now. Nothing on the radio comes even close to them these days, especially American radio.
I agree entirely. I LOVE and at first listen LOVED this song. I remember scraping all my money together to buy this tape and then wearing it out while skipping college classes and riding my bike outside the classroom-an exquisite flavor or euphoria is not participating in something that everyone else hates...um without being too negative, i love the part about the killing gun and how the Eurythmics can lay it out so definitely and sharply express pain. Radio today has nothing like it.
Well it's probably also because of the times, during the punk era when everyone was questioning values taken for granted, like high expectations from life.
Probably not released as a single because, they felt it wasn't commercial enough, however, I would've loved for them to have made a video for this. I don't know if it was a official video or not, but there's a film for "The Walk" by Eurythmics. It can be found here on Utube.
I think this and "This City Never Sleeps" were the best Eurythmics tracks.
When I sang in choir, my expertise was the high notes so when I saw them in 1984 (my 1st "rock" concert) and she hit the high note in this song (at 3:33), I was in tears.
She doesn't nail the high note quite as dramatically in the recording, but it's all done very beautifully.
I am one of the biggest fans of Eurythmics and i do have to say this is one of my favorites! I remember seeing them for the first time in Berkley CA and they played this song as we were in line ALL day long. I felt so teased as I love the beginning of how her voice echoes. Its one of the best sounds I have ever heard from the human voice!!!
this great song about becoming a zombie (and about drugs, about lost love, about lost feelings, about sad feelings) had to be on youtube indeed. people should buy the record (boxed, remastered). this IS one of the best songs made this era. unique, strange, pure music. nothing compares to this. (at least, i don't know anything that does)
this song is the ultimate best Eurythmics ever made, together with Regrets and Aqua, Sweet Dreams, Love is a stranger, Beethoven, and some more lol
