I feel that it is most tragic that the content of Fay's video is so difficult to appreciate due to the ridiculously out of focus image, her mangling of the English language, and her incredibly annoying speech defect.

This sounds like I am dumping on Fay, but she should put a better effort into what she presents to the public. If she doesn't, then her talent will be secondary to her flaws.

Actually Fay can paint it from scratch she is just showing how to use all parts of painter in her DVD. I have all of her DVDs expect for her newest one on how to paint backgrounds. The DVDs are well worth the price and are of the highest quality. Who ever recorded this for youtube, mucked it up.

@Caelicorn Until you have suffered an illness, that perhaps takes away your ability to speak clearly, even have a lisp while you are speaking than you could never know how difficult it is. For me the effort to speak was also very painful and I had a lisp. I applaud her, as the very giving artist that she is, to have provided this video for all of us to benefit.

It's a bit unrealistic though to think that some people, however mean-spirited or narrow-minded they may be, would find some surface detail like that irritating. In fact, I never said it wasn't difficult, simply that it annoyed me. However, I'm sorry you went through a difficult time. What was probably colouring my impression of her from the get go is that she charges so much for something that is incredibly basic.

The video is so low res that you can't see what the result is... when she's done with autopaint, it looks as if she just slightly blurred the original!

At least she does SOMETHING to the photo. I've seen other people who take a photo and just "paint" the edges and call it a "painting" (and charge much higher prices for it).

Fay Sirkis's prices are totally outrageous! And to charge that much money for photopainting! - well I reckon whoever's buying them (is anyone?) are being ripped off. If you knewanything about Fay Sirkis you'd know she has a background in fine art. She's an excellent artist.

If you want to hate anything here then hate the software. Fay is demonstrating (for a Corel training DVD this is ripped from) how the software is used.

This is a tutorial on how to use the clone features of Painter.

Do research before spitting out your hate and maybe all these 'artists' here could link to some of their 'fine' work so they might be similarly judged.

I think her work in portraits is excellent..as for her prices..you charge what the market will take.If there are people willing to pay it good luck to her.Just think two commissions a year and life is looking pretty good.

Sorry not to disrespect you on that one. yes her work is amazing but nothing Compared 2 Fraud. Frauds Paintings cost millions. His Prints etching Prints are over 40! I have been in his Studio here in Holand Walk London as a friend of mine is his friend n the way he works this women doenst even get close to 5%. Painting in Photoshop is one thing n with oil is Other thing. that is why computer generate art isnt as expensive as oil on canvas.

you can pull off the oil painting look in these programs it really is up to the artist like oil paints photoshop and other painting programs are just tools of the trade how one uses them is up to the artist and what they are capable with

My sister draws like real people, and it takes her A LONG TIME, but it is amazing.

I draw anime, it dosent take that long, but the results are Meh..

If the prices were like 100 I would do a painting of my grandma for her.....

Excellent demo ... one can paint from scratch with Corel Painter also. Being a photographer I like being able to change the texture of photos to look like paintings. If I take the photo and it has good clarity, composition and color, why not be more creative with something I have shot. I certainly consider my photography art. And having come from traditional mediums such as oils and chinese brush painting, this is welcome progress to be able to enhance photos too.

well first of all well done... I've got a small problem with Painter. I'm new to it but I have a problem with layers. When I create new layers (normal, watercolor, liquid), no brush works on it. The only place where the brushes work are only on the background Canvas. Can you please explain me what to do? Where could me the problem?

I like Fay's artworks very much! Quality is very poor though... I did similiar workshop, about turning photo - into painting, in Painter X. It's in high quality, and many Zoom In' things. Comment is in polish - which could be hilarious for You... awhah. I can imagine that... ;)

Painter X is the latest version, and Fay Sirkis is a phenomenal artist. I wish there was a lot more of her work on YouTube, because she is one of the best there is.

I wish the quality of the video was better. It is very difficult to tell what is going on in this demo.
