  • 9 people have shit on their brains.

  • If you could sing this minus the instruments (of course) it would make me very happy. The lyrics are in the video description. The name of the song is Dixie Land

  • @The4884bigboy Youtube won't let me post the link, but if you search Dixie Land in the youtube bar, it should be the first video.

  • @The4884bigboy if you want, I can post the lyrics.

  • 9 people were upset this wasnt a simpsons clip.

  • God damn the Bass is so hard to keep up with. I've been singing along with the bass for like 30 mins now. I think my lungs are dying

  • if someone can give me a link for the simpsons version, that would be great.

  • Your multitrack recordings is the top notch and excellent example of four part harmony.Keep it up. Bob

  • @navyblue813 Thanks Bob! Feel free to share this video with friends and tell them about my YouTube channel. ;-)

  • Great job man...

  • your "Everybody wants to be a cat" isn't available in germany! :(

  • @maxibusch Ja, ich hab es gehört, tut mir Leid! Vielleicht kannst du proxytube nützen?

  • @trudbol ja, gute idee! :) danke für die schnelle antwort!

  • You, sir, are amazing. You've inspired myself and a group of friends to start a barbershop ourselves.

  • @DrachePanzer That's awesome, a cappella for the win! ;-)

  • Rockin' the wide angle lens.

  • So Good!

  • @DaKears2011 Thanks! Be a cool cat and share this video on Facebook with your friends! ;-)

  • ahah fantastic...

  • @FromMusictoMusic Thanks! ;-)

  • in my choir last year i got three others and took this song to contest. i wish i found you earlier so i could show them this. this is utterly fantastic

  • BRAVO!!!!

  • @Mawilk Thank you! ;-)

  • You have a fan in Iowa, because we're nice, Iowa nice

  • @pivoteer556 You really ought to give Iowa a try!

  • Talent. This man has it.

  • @MrPeugeotZenith Thanks! Plenty more A Cappella on my channel! ;-)

  • @trudbol You have my subscribtion. !

  • You're welcome for the feedback =) it was sexy btw lol. but no really, you helped us out.

  • whats the harmonies from the bass to the baritone part? i cant pick them. like is it a consistent 4th?

  • J'adore vraiment tes barbershop quartet!

  • Shit yeah man xD Outstanding.

  • @BlitzJones85 Thanks! Feel free to share the video with friends and spread the good humor! ;-)

  • How does he sing without breathing that much? I'm trying to sing along with the Bass but my god I have to breathe @_@

  • @Neowolf882 a lot of practice.

  • Superbe! Combien de prise fais tu pour arriver a un tel résultat? Sorry i don't speak english :/

  • @lanfff Merci ! J'en fais plein, plein, plein... Il m'a fallu sans doute 30 prises pour cette vidéo. ;-p

  • I totally love this, but not too keen on your 'ooo' vowel and wish you would sing with slightly more forward placement, to add that barbershop 'ping' to the sound. Makes me smile so much though :-)

  • @simply4bass Thanks for the feedback. I have been getting this comment lately. I understand my "oo" is a bit too dark and too close to "OH", but I actually like it that way: it sounds fuller & deeper, really like "oo", not like the "üh". I often hear that in barbershop and it bothers me. But I'll definitely keep working on it. Thanks again for the constructive feedback. I watched your videos, you have a great quartet! ;-)

  • Do you have particular order in wich you record the different voices?

  • @RinzeYtsma It depends on the song, but it's typically lead then bass, then baritone then tenor. For Coney Island Baby, I started with the bass, since it carries the song. ;-)

  • you two guys are amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @CrisMultitrack Two? It's just me singing here! ;-)

  • @trudbol LOL! I don't know what happened: I saw the "Hello my baby" video but I commented on this one!!! XD

  • @trudbol Hey, don't joke, you four there!! xD

  • this puts the guys in my class that sing this to shame <3

  • @12runnergirl Thanks for the compliment! ;-)

  • Anyone who hates a barbershop courtet should look at their shitty autotune and recognize where it came from

  • quadruplets really like to fuck with people

  • @MrHamptonLakes its the same person.....

  • you, sir, are in-fucking-credible!

  • @RisingAtheists Haha, thanks! Feel free to share this video with friends! ;-)

  • MORE!

MORE MORE MORE MORE MORE MORE!!!

    BRAVISSIMO!!!!

  • @TheMarkNessMonster Thanks! Show my video to friends and help me spread the word! ;-)

  • why is there no love-button? :O

  • @Johnny573159 There's a share button! ;-)

  • @trudbol the share button is not enough for saying what how awesome this is

  • @trudbol Fair Enough I think you make it look quite effective with the way these videos are done

  • does the lead sing higher or lower than the tenor?

  • @Johnny573159 The tenor almost always sings higher than the lead. The bass almost always sings the lowest. Baritone and lead often cross. ;-)

  • @trudbol hm okay^^

  • nice TTBB arrangements! Subbed.

  • cool,man! BTW,did you like the simpsons?

  • I loved the bass ouo

  • @mishasan134 It was also my favorite part. ;-)

  • @trudbol Heee's got attitude >:3

  • Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo good :)

  • @MikeBradfordMusic Thanks! Share the harmonies with Facebook friends! ;-)

  • @trudbol I might be inclined to if you share some of mine and maybe subscribe ;).. just out of interest, do you record the audio separately to the video?

  • At 1:25 did you drop that note an octave?

  • @Basherbertwo The bass F3 is sung one octave below at F2, yes.

  • The only problem I have with this video is the one Guy doesn't have suspenders -.-

  • You should get a cloning machine to clone yourself and sing live! Great job dude!

  • @spideyrockz4ever Thanks! Feel free to share the harmonies on Facebook and help me spread the word! ;-)

  • you have an amazing range good sir hats off to you

  • @MrAOHgaming Thanks! Feel free to share the video with friends on Facebook. ;-)

  • @mpdog13jr Thanks, glad you liked it! Share the video, I'd appreciate it! ;-)

  • hey man thanks you so much for making these barbershop videos inspired me so much i have just got software to make my own thanks a lot!!!!!!!! =D

  • @epicspooon My pleasure, thanks for the kind words! A Cappella nerds for the win! ;-)

  • @trudbol haha =P one question, how do you keep the four parts so well synced together, do you just use a metronome and hope for the best? Im trying to sing "Steal Away" and my main problem is that all the parts are all over the place lol do you have any tips on how to fix this? or whats your method how do you sit down and record your pieces because when you did Auld Lang Syne they are all so well in synced and i have no idea how you do it =)

  • @epicspooon I practice: I sing the lead part and then listen to it over and over until I get the dynamics and the timing in place.

Also, when I sing the other tracks, I'm looking at Audacity playing my lead track in the timeline, so I have visual cues as to when to come in.

My other "trick" is to try to sing mostly homophonic arrangements, which makes everything easier from that perspective.

  • @trudbol ah ok thanks for the tip ill try some more homophonic pieces. Ill post on your facebook when i have finished one (might try tee idle dum dum) ps i have a very low voice so getting the high parts is hard but i will try my best probably have to falsetto it.

  • lol, i pauses it right on 2:00 and it looks funny.

  • @trudbol Yeah almost every Barbershop piece has the 5 of 5 chord (V7/V)(Secondary Dominant) somewhere. For example, you're singing this piece in Bb. The opening goes from melodic play on the Bb chord (good-bye, my Coney Island...) then moves to C7 or the 5 of 5 (Ba-by), because C7 is the 5 chord of F7 which is the normal 5 chord in the key. I'm just saying the 5of5 is really prevalent in all of Barbershop music

  • @themrqwertymark Yeah, all that analysis is very good, but, can you sing like Julien? I didn't think so.

  • @eddietrumpet1 @themrqwertymark is just answering one of my questions. Understanding music theory really helps grasp the intentions of the composer and which notes are important in the chord and what effect they create on the listener. I am not very familiar with all this (yet), but there's definitely an added value for the performer to understand these things.

  • @themrqwertymark I see, thanks for the info. I'm still learning music theory, so this is all a bit new to me. If you have some good reads you recommend on the subject, I'd be happy to hear it. Cheers ;-)

  • Very very awesome!

  • I like the theatrics. And the singing.

  • @LuisCamachoIII Thanks! Do share the video if you enjoyed it, I'd appreciate it! ;-)

  • If this is you singing then tell me this, how did you shrink yourself, and put yourself into this little box in front of me huh! Obviously you have stolen a tiny race of people to sing behind a glass window. I will find you and bring justice to the tiny people and the night, yeah?

  • @a1legmorshu LOL ;-)

  • what kind of wizardry is this?

  • @salmonela06 One man barbershop quartet! ;-)

  • I'm studying in school as a vocal major and I will NEVER be able to do what you do. To be able to sing all the parts and combine them perfectly and to sound AMAZING is just incredible. you are absolutely sensational.

  • @KendraDyck Thank you for the kind words. You should really give it a shot yourself, you'll be surprised with the result. I learned how to make these videos by... making them. I'm sure someone with formal music training and a solid theoretical background could do a lot better than I. Really, give it a shot.

  • I love these Barbershop quartets! So good, love the way you can match your voice to so many different songs. I'm doing A-Level Music at the moment, always been fascinated by Barbershop Quartets and harmonies in general - Hoping to learn more now :) Did you do any music qualifications before-hand?

  • @TheMusicFatal Thanks! No, I just learned by making videos on YouTube. ;-)

  • @trudbol Julien, you are too modest. I've ben a pro for 50 years, and I've heard a lot of barbershop quartet singing, but never have I heard anyone who could sing every thing from top tenor to real bass, and sing so well in tune, and with such musical phrasing. As I said already, you're too modest.

  • barbershop is made with the 5 of 5 chord, haha, it is the barbershop chord

  • @themrqwertymark What do you mean?

  • @trudbol lol... he means the V/V chord (in classical music analysis), which is a secondary dominant chord. For example, in the key of C major, the V/V would be a d major chord since it prepares the dominant chord (G major).

  • @themrqwertymark btw the barbershop chord is not a V/V chord but rather a dominant seventh chord with a natural harmonic seventh instead of the equal tempered minor seventh which supposedly gives a sweeter more "in tune" sound. It is slightly smaller than the equal tempered seventh :D

  • How the f**k have you the timing to interact with the other "you"? it's awesome, you are incredible man!!

  • @RyucrossDM I practice. ;-)

  • i KNOW that this four guys are the same one...but the "bass" is the greatest! xD

    fuck yeah...it rocks....

  • @AloryHoni Thanks! ;-)

  • Shop Quick-E-Mart and save!

  • @Yakobjsr LOL

  • I liked the one in the hat.

  • @RealLifeRotti That would be me. ;-)

In fact, all the guys are me if you look closely.

  • @trudbol no shit sherlock -__-'

  • @jowdemanne Many people don't know it's me singing all the parts... Mr. Watson.

  • @trudbol nice comeback :-P, I just think those people aren't the brightest ones...

  • good bey my heart coz you took it

  • @Trisonardo Ah, thanks. ;-)

  • This song wouldn't even EXIST without the bass.

    #Bass2andproud

  • @boundarkness you know it

    #I'mbass2also

  • Hey tenor, ditch the other three, they're holding you back. You are destined for greatness.

  • @SuperSonicSourD Haha, thanks! ;-)

  • How did you keep all 4 on time so well and in perfect harmony? that can't be the actual audio that goes with the clips

  • Man, can he ever nail it.

  • Are you listening to your other recordings or watching them or you're just keeping the tempo like a boss?

  • That's the best you ever did.

    Awesome! Perfecto! Unglaublich!

  • amazing !! have recorded any cd? if so is there any way of sending it to Colombia? I'd appreciate your answer I love your suggestion!

Anyway, the barbershop quartet I am in (i sing bass1) at my school is doing both Aura Lee and Coney Island Baby at states for Solo and Ensemble. Any chance we can use some of your tricks when we perform? lol

  • @jman1407 If you guys are looking for learning tracks you can contact me at my email address (see video description above). Cheers ;-)

  • u see te dislike bar?? me either

  • Quite possibly the best rendition of this song I have heard! I've noticed you have neglected another bigtime classic of Aura Lee. I think that should be your next hit lol
