lmao...That's hilarious. Gangstarr pretty much brought real hip hop to the mainstream. When I go to make my top 5 favorite Gangstarr tracks it ends up being a top 20 list. The fact that they werent even mentioned just shows how VH1 really dont know jack shit about hip hop.
I actually had the opportunity to see Gangstarr live years ago. Saw them open for Rage Against the Machine. One of the best shows I've ever seen in my life.

Lets face it thats because the American people are brainwashed zombies of corporate media. You can tell a lot about a generation based on the music, the hippies of the 60's had peace rock and stand up for your independence, who later sold out to money.. Then there was the next major step in the right direction which was true story telling or RAP, which was later sold out to money. Greed is the root of all evil my friend, and ignorance runs deep in Americans..

92% of teenagers have turned to New school and Pop.If you are part of the 8% that still listen to real music, copy and paste this message to another 5 videos. Don't let the real rap die.

If people stopped talking about someone they will vanish. Seems on most of these old school videos people focus on the wrong artists, they're saying "Fuck this dude, he killed hip hop". What you should all be doing in stead is to enjoy the song and praise Guru and Prem in stead! Legends!

All that list was was "let's take the 100 most well-known rappers\groups and list the biggest radio hit from each one" you cant take it seriously. People who actually know hip hop realize Gang Starr is among the best.
@EAZYDUZIT95 i feel you man i dont get it...growing up this inspired me way more than any of those other garbage tracks would ever do. atleast we know that theres people that still keep this great art called hiphop going. ohh wait there isnt lol. RIP guru. come back premo we need you
Guru.. no hate at all.. but not one of my favs. I mean, this album was dope.. to me the tracks did it, and later when i learned more about Jeru, i enjoy those cuts where's he's appearing even more.
To me guru is more a late LL Cool character.. muscled up, with black leather west n stuff.. same time mixing erika yabadabadoo flavor in the mix... being all continental with solar (and whats with him??..nothing!)
yo son, go smack yourself for making such a retarded, pointless comment. I would love to sit here and point out how completely fuckin different those two are but I dont' discuss hip hop with ignorant juveniles... erika badu flavor? wtf is that? that bitch came out YEARS after Guru OR LL been ryming. sheeesh. you young bucks these days dont know SHIT!
i luv those you mentioned above especially g-rap and rakim. ghost and redman are tight but not in my top 5 list. as for g rap he is #3 on my top 5 but like a more consious reality based flow. as for rakim, he's #4 and is the pioneer of the 5% flow. my only complaint is his inactivity!
Just remember, ever since Guru left Premier and went with Solaar, Guru has SUCKED TERRIBLY. Gangstarr is my favorite music group, yeah... but seriously, Guru's out of his prime, he's trash now, and something he said recently made me really pissed. He said that he's the only thing that made GangStarr good and that Premier didn't help him at all. Sure, I didn't expect that, but seriously, I liked Guru in his prime. Rakim has always been 10 times better than Guru... Guru never belonged in top 10...
true indeed guru has slipped since leaving gangstarr. it doesnt diminish his skills its just that he's going in a totally different direction with his career. rakim has had the same drop off after the 18th letter. production and energy is everything to an emcee. yes the god ra is nice, he pioneered the 5% flow which all the great emcees borrowed from, including guru. but when u look at the quantity and quality of his catalog, i give it to gurizi! i agree i am pissed at his attitude towards preem
how could you be pissed about his attiutude towards preem? you dont' know what happened between those two. for all you know they had some personal issues over a bitch. you NEVER know. dont waste your time being pissed, them niggas dont give a fuck about you.
1st of all queen pussy, i'm commenting in reference to an interview he did online where he was emphatically implying that he was gang starr as if preemo signature sound did'nt play a role in gang starr's success. mind u i consider guru to be #2 on my top 5 greatest mc list. i'm figuratively speaking when i say im pissed, because i miss their shit. do u think im unaware that people who dont know me don't care about my feelings, lol. it's almost like how i don't give a flying fuck about u, faggot!
and I'm not the one reading an interview about 2 men and their problems(which is also very cute of you)... but I"M the fag? lol your sharp as a bat my dude.
Guru's voice is what makes him beast as well as his rhymes... he just sucks now... your profile picture is soulja boy, so you're in no place to talk...
Dude,OMFG,you just right now sayed that im fan of soulja boy, dude if you like insult people do it normally,ITS FUCKING VIDEO NAMED SOULJA BOY SUCKS,THATS WHY THERE IS HIS PICTURE.
one of my all time fav albums within the golden era of hip hop...
.....they great you with a pistol not tryin' to say hello....mad kids pack cause their neighborhoods' like that.......it's like you need to have steel just to feel relaxation
the influince that these tonz o gunz have had on America's inner city subculture is finally elucidated: as Guru clearly states,"its like you need to have steel just to feel relaxation." While the posession of a firearm managed to provide the owner with atleast a temporal feeling of security, maybe this is not the issue Guru struggles with in this song. Do the origins of the urban culture of violence date back to the civil rights movement (e.g. the MLK clip in the beginning of the song)?
One Of The Most Underrated Songs That GS Has Ever Done. This Is A Ill Commentary On How Firearms Are So Pervasive In Our Society And Who Has Their Hands On Them. It's Not A Black Or White Issue, Violence Affects Us All And Guru's Telling Us That. And As For Mjn76 This Is One Of Primo's Illest Beats Because While It's Just A Simple Kick/Snare That Shit Is Hard As Fuck And He Complements It Perfectly With His Sound Effects And Voice Samples. Classic Shit Here Son...
Every response to me is either an insult or a threat. Try reading what I posted and proving me wrong. I know that means you'll have to actually THINK. Try it sometime.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
The beginning is illogical (and racist): "If it's wrong to be violent -- defending black women... -- then it's wrong to America to draft us and make us violent in defense of her." Um, there are different kinds of violence. There's criminal violence and violence in defense of oneself or one's nation.
Guru and Premier make the same mistake. They also ignore the very MANY times that guns are used DEFENSIVELY.
And the beat? Sorry, but it sucks. Premier is capable of MUCH better.
smartass...'ooo look at me ima "hip hop know at all" zat culd tell the difference between good hip hop & bad hip hop tracks'...well FUCK U know one gives a SHIT!!! U FUCKIN FUCK FACE!!!! peace 2 ya guru n primo...
It's very much logical. Don't force us to defend a country that doesn't feel as if our own women are worth defending. It specifies black women because they are most at risk and share a common delima.
"Check your nearest overpopulated ghetto/ They greet you with a pistol not tryin' to say hello". How ill is that? People who say Guru is wack are just too feeble minded for this basic comprehension. lol!

This comment has received too many negative votes show
The beginning is illogical (and racist): "If it's wrong to be violent -- defending black women...

People who say Guru is wack are just too feeble minded for this basic comprehension. lol!
