The ending is what most people remember and love, but I found this to be the most powerful scene in the movie. That guy did a great acting job as well.
Some comedian spoke of a (fictional) law they have in Texas called the "he needed killin' law" and it needs to be invoked here. So why did you kill em' kid? Well he needed killin'
W hat amazes me is that Eastwood as a Director takes little time in setting things up, usually does very few takes and doesn't 'give' that much direction because he's confident in his actors. Yet this is absolutely stunning in every detail. Either he's just got the knack or other directors over egg the pudding and are way too luvvy about their work.
...meow...(...here is how the addiction to alcohol began, many people were given alcohol to numb pain or lower pathogen levels since people began seeing that the alcohol at "toxic levels" was causing people to feel better. However, when the all cure elixers were made, alcohol was a necessary ingridient to cause an addiction...)
@lloron74 Or it could be the feeling and release it gave them. It may shock you but It was probably discovered by accident (and most probably not scientific) way before records began. Some people just want to numb out from a world full of explanations like yours.
Unforgiven was one of the most powerful movies I have ever seen, that and Gran Torino, and should it come to surprise both were made by Clint Eastwood.
Oh this movie is so dark! I get chills every time I watch it and especially at this scene. And Clint - always so sinister. He's 62 years older than me, but damn. I swear, if they ever invent a time machine...
There's a list of the best movie lines of all time like: "I'll be back", "say hello to my little friend", and so on...but they overlook a profund line from Clint Eastwood......."WE ALL HAVE IT COMING, KID".....and what makes it legit is that it's true..we al have it coming ...
@lalogus Dead right , my friend. I have an abstnent heavy friend who's told me that his such should never watch this movie. This is the besr scene in the best western ever/
@lalogus I agree. Everybody always remembers the more popular lines, and everyone overlooks the most true meaningful lines in movies. This is one of my favorite movies of all time.
@lalogus it's true as hell but many other totally basic things are true as hell. Grass is green and the sky is blue. A better line would be "Hell of a thing, killing a man. You take away all he's got and all he's ever gonna have."
Eastwood's quality goes without saying, but the guy playing 'The Kid' here is pretty damned amazing as well.
