Folks that hate Weckl looks like a little jealousy i guess. Dave is a great player. Deal with it. I know Dave can be aloof at times. But hey the man has a tremendous command of the drums.

people hate on Weckl because he came off like such a dick in the 80s, there was also an interview with Tony Williams in Modern Drummer where he claimed Weckl gave him a bunch of "new kid on the block" attitude when they first met, I imagine a lot of readers did not find this endearing. Whatever anyone thinks of him, and personally I could not give shit, he's easily one the most influential drummers of the last 25 years and a lot of the younger guys on here are simply ignorant of that fact.

@digimaton Completely agree! I've heard stories of him being arrogant as well, but tbh I don't give a shit. In my book, he's allowed to be arrogant with those skills of his. My biggest drumming idol ever! He's imo not the very best at anything, but the overall skill of this human being is just mind blowing. Others only have speed/dynamics/technique/groov­e, but Weckl simply has it all.

When he play groove i"d like to hear chambers, when he play a solo, i just whant him to play the old style solos from next Step, and back to basics.

overall this is a good solo:))

But i really don't like a new weckl sound approach. I want the toms be muffled somehow, and to put there some pinstripe batters witch will sound better! Back in the Coreas Electrik band Weckl was a beast. I really don't like the sound, but still love the playing :))

Totallly - I told to all drummers, that Dave is totally different from his 2000 Transiton. I like "old" Dave of 90´s with Camilo, Stern, Grp.

Great stuff man. I like this "old" Weckl stuff sometimes better than the "new" Weckl. He was flashier (to me) maybe more raw. Anyway it was brilliant.

everybody has to grow.he got older and mellowed out.i like the old and the new but the new better.the dave had this flamboyant im the best drummer style.if you watch the new dave,he still does all the same things along wit sum stuuf i've never seen any drummer do but he's more relaxed now.

@tjoemmx Yeah, I don't get it. Weckl is from the same "precision" school as Vinny, and nobody ever hates on him. Dave is playing from his soul as much as Chambers and the rest. It's just that his style is fundamentally based on precision (just like Thomas Lang). WTF is wrong with being a very clean, imaginative drummer?
