@MrPrazil 'Substrate' is essential in planted set-ups. It would be like trying to plant an outside plant or tree without soil. Ideally a special planted substrate that contains nutrients is recommended for planted aquariums. This will allow you just to fert the water and not worry about nasty things like root tablets etc.

@MrRawrllyX let me see, aquarium and stand £499, T5 tubes at a cost of £90 for the controller and £50 for the two tubes, replaced the Juwel tubes with zoomed plant tubes at a cost of £25, added an eheim external £90, vecton UV steriliser £99, ADA glass lilly pipe and intake £65, clear PVC hose £6, Co2 bottle £80, glass co2 diffuser £20, solenoid £55, brass regulator £60, medical needle valve £20,non return valve £20. Plants £150+, substrate £50, rocks/wood £59 . Total £1438 OUCH

@monkynutzuk I've kept both with little problems. Glosso is supposedly a difficult plant to grow yet I have never had any problems, as long as you have good nutrients, strong light and plenty of stable CO2 . Hemainthus sp. I think is a prettier plant, with smaller leaves and lighter colour. It all depends what sort of look your after!

I use eco complete and a special substrate exclusive to my LFS called eco-plant-life (pm me for details). I have had excellent results using these products.
