This film is based on a great book of a well known polish writer - Stanisław Lem. The book has the same title and well, as an original and inspiration, is better :)
to jest piekne... szarpie zmysłami daje nam wrażenie bycia powyżej wszystkim.. problemy i przyziemnośc jest nam taka odległa... patrzymy w dusze... mało takich utworów... a szkoda...
this movie has to do with String Theory an,or M Theory....Anything that can happen will happen in these string and M theories....Sounds crazy but it's being proven as we speak...What is Reality? we could be living almost the same as we are now, only one thing could chance things. Anything that can happen will happen in these string and M theories. some of the best ppl in Physics now are saying this to be thruth. mitchio kaku steven hawkins and the list does on and on.
um.. the subject matter alone is hard to grasp but.. if you can take everything that all the ages have ever learned about the invisible intertwining structures that masquerade as intelligence as well as everything in between and spin them altogether in to one truth, you might get a hint as to what the book solaris trying to convey. both movie maker's knew this and made their own simple snapshot of the book. even the book is yet a snapshot of a greater idea..
Outstanding editing...both versions have such powerfully different messages, except the realization that "we don't want other worlds, we want MIRRORS." Thank you--great work!
I think it s unfair to blame Soderb. for this verison. It s an interpretation for not so sophisticated viewers. And of course it s mainstream but a peace of artwork as well.
@Guenniistes nothing about this movie is mainstream. an the slight poke at "sophisticated viewers" will just be viewed as snide remark from a person with delusions of eloquence.
been a fan of both films, the original from tarkovsky, and the modern by soderbergh. i was so mentally entranced by steven's interpretation, i purchased the book by lem. others have already said it previously, nearly every element of the re-make was flawless. the gripping score and deep space graphics are stunning to say the least. one of my lasting thoughts was what would cross one's mind alone in the depths of outer-space, where the picture of reality takes on infinite levels of perception.
I know people always give this film harsh criticism and compare it to Tarkovsky's version but people really should judge it on its own. It really is a masterpiece amongst modern sci-fi films. Genuinely touching characters who really brought a different interpretation to Lem's novel. And its filmed, edited and scored so beautifully. I literally get lost in the tone and mood of this film every time I watch it.
Wonderful job, a poetic translation of sort.
