Awesome video I'm using a bamboo tablet and using art rage. One question when I color in my drawing how do u erase the color so it doesn't go out of the outline picture? I erase the over color but I erase my drawing line when I do it.
So do you use a tablet? I'm new to the digital art thing. I draw on paper but I want to make stuff like this and I found this tablet worth 60 bucks that comes with this program an Photoshop elements. I'm wanting to get a wacom bamboo for my brithday I was just trying to get an idea of how things work with this.
@nikoisbaws25 - I used a Wacom Graphire 4 (also around $60). It may take some getting used to, because you may instinctively want to look down at the tablet while drawing, when you need to be watching the screen instead. Once you get going, it's a fun tool to have. I'm currently using the Studio Pro version. It has more features, and is fairly affordable, but AR2 is great to start out with. If you're interested in more about ArtRage, you should check out the ArtRage forums.
@Kocaz69 - It's the title theme song from Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, which is probably why it sounds familiar. I used a friends CD at the time I made the video, so I'm not sure where you can get.
@GameIrrate - I don't recall if it's 2.5 or 2.6, but everything used in the video is the same as it would be in the full (paid) version of 2.5, so you shouldn't see any differences really. However, if you were using 2.0, there would be a noticeable visual difference.
Yeah, I didn't spend any time on trying to keep the image accurate to the original reference, because it was made to show someone the process I follow when using stencils and layers. I'm sure there's plenty of other inaccuracies present.
Glad you liked it. If you haven't already, you should join the ArtRage forums at ambientdesign dotcom. They are a lot of friendly and helpful people there, who can give you tips on the program.
soz I must be annoying you - just curious about the stencil you used for the shadow - how did that help? sorry if i'm bothering you, it's just I'm quite slow with these thkngs XD
It's no problem. I wouldn't allow comments on my videos if I didn't want to be bothered with them :) Anyhow, to answer your question, I create the stencil in this video to use as a mask. For example, after I paint in the solid green color of the Bulbasaur, I create a stencil from that layer. The stencil will prevent any other colors I put down from going outside the lines, so it becomes easier to add shadows and highlights.
The prices vary depending on the size of the tablet and what they offer. My tablet is a 4" x 5" Wacom, with a pressure sensitive drawing tip and eraser. The more expensive ones have tilt and swirl features. I bought this one, because I never used one and I didn't want to waste my money on a more expensive one if I wasn't going to like using it. Having now used one, I wouldn't want to ever go back to a mouse for drawing on my computer.
