@whiterobin - Ooh, good point. I love Yes, but often after a fabulous passage of music I have to 'close my ears' for an up-and-down-the-scales bit. I think it's testament to Anderson's input that he wrote some brilliant Yes songs (Yessongs?) on guitar which were 'Yessed-up' by the band. His simple acoustic versions of "Owner" and "Roundabout" are great - he's on some US daytime TV show doing them somewhere....
But Yes, particularly with Anderson's input, produced the really important large structures which were pieces of music in and of themselves, even if you took the singing out of it. This piece remains at a constant tempo throughout, which is valid, but it was never what Yes was about.
wow! it's videos like this that make youtube the coolest technology on the planet. i would loved to have been at this concert. jon has created so much great music. in an interview he said sometimes he puts words together just because he loves they way they sound together. thiis is such a great song and looks to be a great line up of band mates. they are not ABWH, but still a great band. thanks for sharing this clip.
I have never watch this clip with Jon Anderson before , but I think the others must be Bruford, Wakeman and Howe playing together with Jon if I not mistake here :D I bought a cassette/tape for 18 years ago with them :D Some of the songs on that tape is Fist of fire and Brother of mine :DThe picture on that tape is some eagles on it and their nests :D
Great old video and fantastic rendition of the song sans Vangelis. Is it just me or does Jon appear uncomfortable without something in his right hand? Tamborine or other percussion instrument, or with both hands obviously, a guitar. It's like he doesn't know what to do with that right hand. Not that he was ever much prone to gesturing :)
I never thought I'd see a live version of this song. I heard the song as a kid when it first came out. Bought the cassette and still have it. Great video. Thanks.
Simply amazing that Jon Anderson is STILL rocking today . There are some great life dvd's from Yes in from the near past ! Also a solo dvd check them out .
This isn't the Animation tour. It's the 1980 Song of Seven Tour and the show here was filmed in Germany I believe. The band is: Dick Morrissey (sax and flute), Joe Patridge (guitar), Ronnie Leahy (keys), Chris Rainbow (backing vocals and keys), Barry De Souza (drums), John Giblin (bass) and Morris Pert (percussion), plus another guitar player I think -- quite a big group and a money-losing album and tour for Atlantic Records. No wonder they dropped Jon and Yes.
Great to see. I've become a youtube addict finding all this great footage I've never seen before. Never thought I'd see any footage of Jon from his late 70's early 80's work. Wish there was more details about when/where, etc.
Moron!!!... Jon Anderson has never EVER sang in Falsetto... if you know anything about singing... falsesetto is for those who DO NOT have the NATURAL high range..like motown and disco singers... listen use your ear.. you might learn something...
I have 2 questions tho: which concert is this? and there's a song Jon and Vangelis do, he sings "once we did love, how we chased a million stars and touched as only one can." I swear that's the most beautiful thing I've ever heard. what's the name of that song? and thank u for posting this :D
What can I say, an extremly pleasant trip down to memory line. I can't believe how much this song touches me right now despite knowing it for such a long time, it still has that special magic thing, that caught me the time I heard it for the first time. One of my favorites of all times.
is that the sax player from supertramp?

Temón y pico!. El gran despliegue compositivo de Vangelis y la impresionante interpretación de John Anderson. Aunque Vangelis no estuvo en este show.

This is Jon on his solo tour in 1981 (?). At that point, he wasn't working with any of the Yes members. ABWH came out in 1989.
