  • Mükemmel olmuş Mehdi bey.Ancak çok kısa olmuş.

It was an improvisation so even if I try to play the whole piece it will not be the same i am afraid.

  • Hi Nima,

Of course the background of any instructor and his/her current level of performance is the most important factors and also being open-minded. Many instructors teach only one style of playing santur which is what they have learned. There is no "best style" only different views and different interpretations.

    All the best,

    Mehdi

  • bah bah.. looking forward to the day when i can play like that.

I'm in search of an Ostad in London, what are the main factors I should watch out for in my pursuit?

  • Mehdibeyg. You play so beautifully, you are very talented. Greetings from Germany.

  • Thank you very much

  • Mr.Rezania, thank you very much for your interest and help.First, I'm in begginer level on Santur.I've been playing it since only a few months, but I don't know anything much about its playing technique. By the way, what does mean Chaharmezrab? How should I practice it? If you send me notations and etudes I wlll be grateful for you.

  • Mr.Rezania, As you said me your last mail, I tried to make tremolo with my wrists, but I couldn't make a proper coordination between my right and left hand. How should I practice this technique? How can I develop my left hand as well as my right hand? May you help me about this problem, please? Thank you..

  • To develop you skill in performing tremolo, try not to play fast, rather start with easy melodies which do not have any tremolos at all. Try to play them at a low tempo and increase the tempo not after two weeks.

If you play Persian santur, I suggest to develop the right and left by playing "chaharmezrab"z.

If you let me know your background in santur playing I could send you some notations and etudes.

  • Mr.Rezania, you play the santur very well.I liked your performance too much.I also play santur amateurish.I'm very curious about that tremolo technique. How do you make the tremolo with those wooden mallets? With your elbow or wrist? May you explain how to make it,please?

  • Thank you very much for your comment and interest.

The tremolo (if you meant by it "rolling on any note") in santur --specifically in the style of Master Ardavan Kamkar- is performed by wrist (90%). In some other styles they do it by using fingers because it is easier. However by using fingers the performer will not be able to play fast passages.

By practicing hard it is possible to use the wrist for any technique in santur as Master Kamkar has accomplished it.

    I hope I have helped.

  • Dear Mehdi that is a very pleasureable piece you have shown us, please show us more. :)

    Regards

  • Thank you.

I am glad you liked it
