Does anyone else find it problematic that the vast majority of The History Channel's experts are "investigative journalists" and authors who routinely appear on Ancient Aliens and write books on Atlantis? I was looking for something credible and informative to show to my students and I am not sure this is appropriate.
@sawkdrawer Even if they are simply investigative journalists, a lot of what they are saying is true in terms of history. The usually only inflict their opinions in the base of questions. I would say it's going to be brought into the general public's eye sooner or later and you should see what your students have to say about this before being influenced by anyone else. Just make sure to inform them that most of this is theory at this point.
This is actually why I don't like watching the History channel anymore. They didn't interview any archaeologists from the site. Looking up Gobekli Tepe shows that some of these people said things that weren't true: there were tools found at the site, made of flint. And why does every other archaeology doc on the HIstory channel end by asserting evidence for the Biblical flood or Atlantis or both? She said less than 5% has been uncovered. How do they justify making that leap?

@sawkdrawer Even if they are simply investigative journalists, a lot of what they are saying is true in terms of history. The usually only inflict their opinions in the base of questions. I would say it's going to be brought into the general public's eye sooner or later and you should see what your students have to say about this before being influenced by anyone else. Just make sure to inform them that most of this is theory at this point.

Looking up Gobekli Tepe shows that some of these people said things that weren't true: there were tools found at the site, made of flint. And why does every other archaeology doc on the HIstory channel end by asserting evidence for the Biblical flood or Atlantis or both? She said less than 5% has been uncovered. @shbrg8 very interesting question! I believe they do not date the rock itself. They look for organic material, like bones, burned wood (coal) fragments, pottery (it can be determined when the clay was burned for pottery -> thermoluminescence) etc.
