...As a side note, I noticed that you bend upwards whereas my return muscles aren't very well developed at this stage. Thus I'm finding it much easier to bend downwards - so, can anybody confirm whether there is any benefit to bending upwards here (aside from for exercise purposes)? Thanks

It doesn't matter at all in which direction you bend. It just depends on how you like to do it. Bending upwards is a quite common way to bend, but bending downwards has the same effect and you're right, it often seems to be easier to bend downwards. As far as I'm concerned there's no benefit in bending upwards (if I am wrong though please correct me).

Yes sir, but their not actual harmonics. Those are actually short, controlled pick scrapes. Just slide your pick up the low E and A strings and with enough control you'll get something like a laughing sound. Does that answer your question?
