  • could u make me a knife plz

  • I want one!

  • *applause

  • That's a beauty of very nice craftsmanship Drak! How is everything going with you? Are you still getting around ok? Have you been out camping this summer? Are you still building those mini camp stoves?

  • Beautiful. Is it rust resistant?

  • @Boneyman Thank you for the compliment! When this film was shot I had not yet put the patina on the knife using vinegar. Every once in a while the knife needs an oiling. Especially if it is being put up for some time.

  • I really like this knife. Wish you sold then, I would definitely buy it!

  • i realy liked your ~going back to forging~ story..

any way, its a realy cool looking knife, and i believe it will be awsome in the field =)

  • nice little knife, did you do a neck sheath?

  • looks nice...you did a great job

  • @decreeofjuggalos LOL NC Skills that I learned in Idaho and North Dakota. Guess it is where my heart is that counts though right and its 100% southern!

  • so did you just dip it in used motor oil

  • @GarrettJDB I did dip it in Motor Oil 30 SAE, but it was new oil which had never been used. A good heating and a dip in oil made it tough. Careful though...cold oil hot metal makes fire!

  • Beautiful knife!

Also a nice shine on it

  • @justmarinus Thank you, just took a lot of elbow grease! Arm still hurts LOL.

  • Damn thats a good looking chunk of metal ! nice work

  • Thanks, I admit Im kind of proud of how it turned out!

  • nice one!!!!!!

  • Looks good

  • definitely a piece of art

  • That is a beaut .... lucky Jess!

You got skills my friend........ Sweet blade.

  • Thanks Shug, Skills maybe, sore arms thats a big YES.

  • Excellent job.

  • Thank you wizzla

  • Bellissimo, ben fatto e originale.

    Bravo drak ! ;-)

  • Thanks Bennie!!!

  • You know me, Drak....I am all about the music of the hammer and anvil! I like the design, especially the grip-hole. It gives a good option for de-fleshing the skin before stretching and tanning. Again, excellent work, and good to hear you are back in the saddle! Peace.

  • Thanks Josh. That ring is music isn't it!

  • thats sweet that makes me wanna make my own knife. kool laceing on the handel.

  • Its a lot of hard work but in the end it gives you a sense of pride knowing that it was you who created it. Hope that you give it a try! Thank you for the comment and compliment!

  • great job my friend!!! Great to see another one of your amazing pieces of art!! 5/5

    Ed

  • Well I would not go as far to say art LOL. Thanks for the compliment Ed, Your always so kind my friend!

  • What a great looking little knife Bro! Great work on it.. Jess will love it!

  • Thanks David!

  • bravo, nice work

  • Thank you!

  • Good to see you used a single bevel scandi grind

  • To be honest I like the kind of beveled look it gave the blade.

  • Man...that is really nice. I can't believe how nice that looks to be homemade. You could make a killing selling those I bet, if you could tolerate pounding that hammer.

  • I don't know if my body could handle pounding that much! Think I will keep it as a hobby for now. Thanks for the compliment though, You never know I may end up making a few and selling them on ebay someday.

  • It's a beauty!

    Good work!

  • Thanks Bill!

  • very nice.

  • Thank You!

  • Banging red hot steel is a bit of fun.

Did you hot chisel the rough shape?

You said the steel was laying around, do you know what it was originally from? Or did you do the grinder spark test? Just wondering how you determined the type of steel before you put all the time into it.

    It's a pretty little guy.

  • I do hot chisel for the rough shape, I even have a few tools I created years back for shortcuts. I did the spark test LOL... Never thought to mention that in the video which I should have. Glad you brought it up, and thanks for the compliment!

  • Thanks for the reply, and the information. I'd love to see the special tools you made.

It would be fun to see a video of you making a knife. I get the feeling that the bug has gotten you again.

I haven't done anything w/ my forge in years. I probably should make a few knives for my own use. I've been wanting a small straight blade for a while, I should get after it. But what you said is true, it's a lot of work. It's fun & rewarding, but a lot of work.

  • I have to take it slow due to health issues but it is a lot of fun! Fold pound fold pound fold pound...but the end reslults are filled with pride and are so very rewarding. I will take some snap shots and make a video of the tools. Not much to them just curved chisels made to cut an area out such as the area the fore finger goes in. The hole in the blade was done with a drill(dulled 4 bits LOL tells me its strong steel) Hope this inspired you to go out and make that anvil Ring!

  • Fold & pound sounds like damascus. Did you do a forge welded, soft & hard steel blade?

That curved hot chisel idea sounds great. I'll have to try that.

I don't have a lot of experience at it. I've made a couple wood carving chisels. Two woodworking plane blades & a double edged short sword. Everyone was a lot of work, but fun. I look forward to the videos.

  • That is exactly what I did, easy to sharpen and strong enough to take somewhat of a beating. The curved chisel was a easy project. The first one I made worked but gave way after only a few uses. I heated the second one to the right color and dipped it in cold oil to temper it. It works great now.

  • Very nice! Looks like a very handy design, great job!

  • Thanks and I hope the design works out as I think it will, I guess the real test will be after Jess gets a deer hung up to skin!

  • With a shape like that I am sure it will be great at skinning! Looks very comfortable as well!

  • I seen one like this at Gander Mountain and liked it, so I copied the idea with a bit of my own ideas. It is a very comfortable knife, thanks for commenting!

  • Beautiful knife, great work! A nice family heirloom! 5/5!

  • Thanks... I hope it turns into a family heirloom, LOL.

  • Wow!

Destined to become a family heirloom.

    Great craftsmanship.

    5 stars

  • Thanks for the compliment Padre'! I hope it has a long life with the family. I know he will take care of it and most likely pass it down to his son.
