I love George Harrison and of course this movie directed by genius and my personal favorite director Martin Scorsese will overhype the legend of George but lets not kid ourselves..NOBODY and I mean nobody is touching Lennon/McCartney. I am very excited to see this documentary though and though I think Lennon was on the right track as far as his perspective on religion went, I always loved and appreciated how in tune George was with his spirituality. RIP GEORGE your legacy will live on forever.
I love every Harrison´s song. He was an excellent composer and guitarist. The matter is that you need to listen them several times to get understanding. Try it, please. Thanks.!
ATTENTION ROOM: Starting February 2012 Apple Records Inc. will release digitally sanitized versions of the entire Beatle catalogue whereby all of George Harrison's music have been digitally removed. His solo work, guitar work and even his harmonies have all been DIGITALLY eliminated. At a press conference prod. George Martin admitted "We should have done this years ago. The music sparkles now". When Paul McCartney was asked what he thought, he said : "My new wife has BOTH legs"!
@romans52345 I just Googled this 2012 Apple release and there is no mention of any Harrison songs or his guitar playing to be deleted? That would be crazy! So, are you doing a 180 here? You stated he had a weak voice, pedestrian quality of playing the guitar, and plagiarism. And according to you he only wrote 3 good songs. This is you isn't it? Why take the time to cause trouble here? If you don't like Harrison, fine, but let the fine folks here enjoy his legacy in peace. Thanks!
@romans52345 You know, the ghost of Lennon hides my glasses and knocks my Beatles poster off the wall. Doesn't touch my "Bigger Than Jesus" hat though...
For years, George's value to the Beatles has been questioned. His weak voice, his pedestrian guitar playing and his awkward songs have left a giant question mark in the minds of fans and critics: what if George had NOT been a Beatle? Of his 3 good songs, one was PLAGIARIZED and the others received help from John and Paul. George's value has always been dubious. Now, with modern technology, he's been REMOVED. It's a fascinating look at the Beatles without George Harrison, Beatle-Lite.
@romans52345 You couldn't be more out to lunch when it comes to Harrison. George wrote many quality songs even early in his career like "Don't Bother Me" and "I Need You", for example. By 1968 he was writting songs as good or better than Lennon or Mac. His legacy is cemented. He had more friends than any of the other Beatles. Octopus Garden is an example of how good he played lead guitar. He co-wrote it with Starr. Lennon and Mac. didn't like the fact the Harrison was on the same level as they.
i watched this the other day and it absolutley left me spellbound.inspiring, thought provoking, truly beautiful film.amazing stuff..the beatles..the greatest band there ever will be..george harrison..the most underrated beatle of all time!
Not a religious person by any stretch, but when Olivia talked of the powerful moment George left his body... I can start to believe in souls, as it is bloody hard to comprehend that such a force of nature, beauty and goodness can just stop in an instant.
@kronusius...I happen to LOVE the Monkees, but am also obsessed with the Beatles and can't WAIT to see this documentary. More like 3 people who don't like music, period. No need for name-calling....
I saw the film last night here at a special screening in Portland, and it was amazing. I highly recommend it. It is long, but I was engaged with it for about 85% of the time. My only critique was that Scorsese could have spent less time on the Beatles stuff in the first half, particularly the parts that were repetitive of "Anthology" material. The second half (of the 3 1/2 hour film) was stronger and more personal.
fabulous...well worth the wait. but it is too bad that only folks with HBO will get to see it. the whole thing was like a lovely chant. he must have been something pretty special to have such wonderful friends, relatives and lovers. a fitting tribute to probably the most under-rated beatle.

I walked past a newsagents last week and a magazine caught my eye that read,''George Harrison Martin Scorsese'',i wondered all week what that was about, now I know.
I'm not from the Beatles era, so wasn't aware of who wrote what when my aunty played their songs. I assumed the John & Paul wrote everything, excuse my youth & ignorance, lol. .. So me absolute heart stopping, foot stomping, hip swaying fav's have always been - "Something", (Boom! by heart), "While my Guitar Gently Weeps", (amazing!, timeless!), & "Here Comes the Sun". Technical, original, innovative. Why he was overlooked & overshadowed still gob-smacks me today
Ghastly...what the hell happened to Marty Scorsese??? Beatles??? Really Marty? Better get back to Elizabeth street pal for a re-souling of your walkin' shoes.

@JohnLennon100 Actually it's one of my favourite quotes about George because it hits the nail right on the head - it's a great starting point if you want to know who George really was. About the source: it's well known since decades or the like and can be found in many Beatles and George Harrison biographies for sure. But if you want "instant proof", it's mentioned right now on George Harrison's own website: "Features / The Documentary Film - George Harrison: Living in the Material World".
"People always say I'm the Beatle who changed the most. But really, that's what I see life as about... You have to change." Spoken like a true messiah to me.
The DVD doesn't seem to be listed on Amazon yet. This film should be terrific but sadly I don't get HBO so it's the theatres, DVD, or nuthin'. All thanks to Sri Krishna!

He was peaking??? No, you (McCartney) and Lennon were peaking. George got better and better. I think around let it be/ abbey road they started to get jealous of George...
George Harrison inspires me daily. Born in 1961, I grew up with the Beatles as a soundtrack - they were my older brothers' records and I made all of them mine. George's songs rang different with me. His vision of being more than just a 'musician' also applies to being more than an 'accountant' or a 'construction worker'. His wealth facilitated it for him, but he used that wealth to spread the idea in modern electronic media to people who eschewed traditional religion.
Eventhough George was the youngest of the beatles, he always looked the most mature and seemed to be the one actually maturing the most mentally. He didn't have the same star appeal as John and paul and wasn't as happy go lucky as Ringo but to me he was the most progressive of the group and always wanted more than just the vain trappings of fame and fortune. He seemed to be more on a spiritual journey of enlightenment rather than a journey to simply find out who he was.

Yes I think its says something about him too. A beautiful, thoughtful, intense soul. It's a wonderful story. Thanks.
